S62 Championship Week

Task 1: Trivia (3 TPE max). Verification word is Victor Helstrom is my father

Milestones +3 TPE

Task 6 +4 TPE
a. The FHM era means more to me than the STHS era. STHS was incredibly random and the best team could easily miss the playoffs, let alone not even win a series, so I feel FHM has been better for winning a cup because the best team will almost always win, and in this case it was Texas.
b. I do think we'd have seen the same four in the final four. Everyone knows that Hamilton, Texas, Buffalo, and Chicago are the best teams in the SHL so if we hadn't played the Stampede or if Chicago hadn't played Texas in Round 2, we'd definitely be playing them in the conference finals.
c. Relocating Hamilton would be fucking sacrilege. Hamilton might be a tiny city in real life but in SHL lore it has a tremendous history of winning. The Steelhawks have been in Hamilton for a long time and moving them out would be stupid, I think it's great that the Steelhawks are both long-term in Hamilton and represent a smaller city. Hell, this question is just ammo for people who hate Hamilton and I feel it's incredibly biased against us. For shame, PT man.
d. The best player to not make the finals in the past two seasons has to be Baltimore winger Karl Krashwagen. The former MVP has been one of the Platoon's stars, and it was hard for me to not chose Ethan Duncan who has also been fantastic, but Krashwagen has been THE man for the Platoon for a long time now and deserves a finals run soon.

Task 3: Draft Busts (3 TPE)

The hardest thing about writing this task is that there's so many draft busts to choose from. From Simothy Drunkebird going first overall in S52 to San Francisco or Calgary picking Bradley Barkov at 8th in S53 over a Jukka Timonen or Ryuuji Minamino, there's been a shit ton of them over recent years. I'll specifically choose one that hurts my fucking heart. S54 is an absolutely stacked class, with players like Ryosuke Sato, Mats Marner, and the chad Rotticus Scott all coming from it. Yet New England took the class's biggest bust at third overall. With players like Scott, Marner, and more importantly defensemen Emilia Bergman, Bork Lazer, and Pojo Biscuit on the board, New England took Anchorage defenseman Matthew Sawful. Let me get this straight: I love Sawful. He's a great dude and when the Wolfpack picked him I was super happy since he was an absolute stud for us in Anchorage. One of the best dudes I've met on site and I was sure the Wolfpack were gonna have a stud with a high-earning blueliner like Sawful at the head of their pipeline. However, Sawful went IA a couple seasons after getting picked, which made me really sad as we all miss him in Anchorage. He had a great juniors career but he would fail to make the step up to the SHL, and if he has he's 100% been an IA filler on the third pair. I hate to call him a bust but that's what he is.

Task 20: advertising a sim league (3 TPE)

I'm a big soccer fan (or football as the Europeans call it). I watch the Premier League every week and FIFA's been my most played video game series ever. I've always been looking for a soccer simulation league (I never got into the GRSL which was honestly pretty janky and died a slow painful death last year), and I was overjoyed when I found another soccer sim league. The Simulation Soccer League may run on jcink (BOOO) but it's been really fun so far. Football Manager is a fun sim engine to use because the game is pretty chadlike. It's super easy to earn with the affiliate links and predictions (i mean sim league vets are gonna find adapting to a new league's pt schedule pretty easy cause all leagues run the same). You can create whatever player you like. Hell, you can even make a pressing forward from Azerbaijan if you really want to. Plus it's been nice to meet new people on the site through my team Cairo City (more like the team I play for). The SSL is just a nice easy fun league that's already expanding with the first season not even done yet. Please join it people.

3. 3/3 TPE
This questions is going to make me a little sad because the user went inactive shortly after being called up to the SHL. My Friend a fellow 4 star cup champion JMac n’Cheese. A member of the Season 52 SHL Draft class he was selected 13th overall by Minnesota. Looking back now there are only 10 active players left from that class. And Jmac n Cheese is no longer included in those numbers. By the numbers it looks like the last season jmac played was S62 and now sits as unassigned. His last update was back in October of 2020, registering a total of 849 TPE. Although he was a couple hundred TPE under the leader of the class, Jmac was looking to be a great mid earner, second or third liner for Minnesota. Sadly he cut his career shorter than I would have liked to have seen. Jmac, I know if I ping you, you will come. I hope you come back and recrate soon.

6a.
For me, a cup in the FHM era is more important than a cup in the STHS era. For starters, I only had my rookie season in Detroit during the STHS era. As much as I’d like to see more randomness similar to STHS when it comes to FHM, I think the cups in this era carry a little bit more weight for GM’s and less for players I guess.

6d.
Obviously the best player in the league right now is the one and only Zoltan Topalo of the Tampa Bay Barracuda. Dude has bene CHOMPIN at the bit since day one for a finals appearance. This guy has been training hard for the last 10 seasons to make sure he is the best guy on our the ice for Tampa. Tampa is finally on the up and up and I would love to see Zoltan make it to the finals.

11a.  2/2 TPE
This was actually a pretty exciting series this time around. It was definitely a tiny bit disappointing seeing Hamilton and Texas back at it again for a rematch. Last time with Texas getting swept in the finals this one made it all the way to game seven. There were even some overtime games tossed in there to make it extra exciting. This definitely could have gone either way with the stat lines being pretty consistent across the board. Like many others, we are waiting for new and exciting teams to make it to the finals and get their chance as the four star. This series didn’t add any new teams to (cups in the last 10 seasons list)

It looks to me like New England is ready to start rebuilding the ship board by board. Even before the famous gritty Luketd hopped aboard the ship there were a number of rumors flying around about players ready to test free agency. The long tenured Kenvald stepping down from his role and new regime starting to come in and rebuild it seems like this team is ready for its blank slate. With some of the new league regression changes this can be a great time start a rebuild. Lucky for luke, he has a history of building teams from the ground up and should do  great job in this role. I’m excited to see who applies and who is selected as the co gm of luke on this new adventure. Previously with Manhattan he helped set them up with a great future that should be paying dividends in the next few seasons. We shall we how long it takes them to get there.

Task 1

Verification

Task 6

a. This is a tough one, but I think the FHM era. STHS has a ton more randomness involved in it, so it sometimes feels like no matter what you do, you can’t win. However, in FHM, especially as a GM, you can see your hard work pay off by being a good team. Or even as a player, if you put the work, you can see yourself make an impact and eventually be a key piece to a cup win.
b. No I don’t think so, only because Chicago hasn’t made the final 4 since season 60. While they have a great team in the regular season, they have come up short for the past two seasons. They are probably one of the league’s top teams, but the past two seasons they have let their fans down and come up short of their expectations, especially after the season they just had.
c. Absolutely would not relocate this franchise. As someone who joined the league when it first started (or almost when it started, way back in season 3), Hamilton has a ton of history in the SHL. Being someone who has played on Hamilton as my first ever SHL team and bringing them their first ever Challenge Cup in franchise history in Season 11, I wouldn’t be able to see Hamilton relocated.
d. There are a ton of great players, so it’s hard to pick one. However, when I look at some of the top regular season performers the past two seasons, it’s hard to ignore someone like Steve Harrington. This is someone who has continually improved since entering the league and has cemented himself as one of the league’s deadliest players.

Task 11a

This was a very exciting final, even for someone who was playing in it. While we came up short, this was one of the more exciting finals I’ve been a part of. Going all the way to a game 7 was a tough fight from both teams, but I have to say Game 5 was probably one of the most unbelievable games and comebacks I have seen in the FHM era. Hamilton being down by 2 with 45 seconds left in Game 5 to come back and tie the game and then win it in overtime was something I haven’t seen before. Considering the circumstances, it was probably the best comeback in SHL FHM era history.

Task 12

https://simulationhockey.com/showthread....pid3151389

Task 13

I’ve always been one to say that the SHL parity issue would start to revert itself, and it has yet to do so. Now, I’m not someone who knows much about FHM and being a GM in FHM, so I have no idea if it’s an actual issue with teams not being managed/coached as well as others, or if there’s something else fundamentally wrong. That being said, I do think there is some sort of issue with parity in the league, the only problem is I don’t know what the potential solution would be. As someone who has been on one of the better teams in the league, I can’t really complain about my experience, however, I know if I was on a team that was struggling every season and couldn’t break through, I wouldn’t be very happy or motivated to stick around. Perhaps the new regression scale will help the parity issue, since Buffalo and Hamilton are two of the older teams around the league, but I’m curious to see if there’s actually going to be a shift in the strength of SHL teams soon.

Task 18

Lane Guarder: My attempt at making a goalie in the SHL. A position that is not always needed, and can take forever to get to a good spot, but one that is extremely rewarding if you can be one of the league’s best. Due to the current state of goalies in the SHL, Guarder almost goes undrafted, but New England takes a chance on him late in the SHL draft. Guarder becomes a top earner, continues to play well, but cannot help break through Buffalo/Hamilton in the East.

Joe Hitter: Hitter is a goon, plain and simple. Usually under appreciated, but goons were so powerful in the SHL the league had to impose a cap on including them and their playstyle in the sim. Hitter, as his name suggests, does not concern himself with putting the puck in the net, he simply hits everything that moves on the ice. Unfortunately, that sometimes means refs and his own teammates. However, when he’s on the ball, he is constantly creating open ice for his teammates.

Johnny Rocket: The speedster. Johnny can move quicker than everybody out on the ice, and he gets approximately 7 breakaways per game. His finishing touch is suspect, so he doesn’t have the goal numbers you would expect with someone who gets so many chances, but he tries. He’s always a threat, so he’s always being watched. He doesn’t get selected very high in the draft due to his questionable offensive skillset, but still has a decent career being a 0.8 PPG player

Jacob Point: Jacob is your typical kid who always wanted to be a professional hockey player. Now, while his dream may be realized, and he is playing in the SHL, it wasn’t for very long. Jacob had a lot of potential, did very well in the J and got drafted in the second round. However, once he got to the big leagues, he couldn’t put it together. The irony of his name is almost comical, as Jacob played 6 seasons in the SHL, registering only 1 single point.

There have been a lot of rule changes in the SHL. Where do you think these changes have gone right, where do you think they have gone wrong? Would you ever want to go back to a previous way of doing things? Do you think the SHL is fine as is?

I know that people (including myself) like to complain a lot, but overall I think we have done a pretty good job in regards to our rules and must of the changes that have happened over the years have been for the better. There are things that haven't gone great in recent years, first and foremost the parity issue, but those were usually the result of bigger picture events and not because we made bad rule changes. Two areas where I think the league has actually done an amazing job is culture and personal accountability. The SHL was just so much more toxic and cliquey in the past and bad behaviour was just way more acceptable than it is today. People rarely ever had to face the consequences of their actions especially if they were friends with the right people and I think we have come a long way in improving that.

Quote:6. Written, up to 4 TPE - Grab Bag: Pick up to 4 Challenge Cup related topics to write about! Each topic is worth 1 TPE. Each answer must be 50+ words.
a. What is worth more to you, a cup win in the FHM era or the STHS era?
b. Be honest, would we have seen the same final 4 as last year (Chicago, Texas, Hamilton, Buffalo) had BUF/HAM and TEX/CHI not run into each other in the second round?
c. Hamilton has a population of roughly 5 people. Where would you relocate the franchise?
d. Who is the best player to NOT make the final in the past 2 years?

a. A cup is worth more to me in the FHM era because it is a lot harder to achieve for everyone who doesn't just somehow end up on an already stacked team. However I would argue that winning multiple cups is actually more impressive on STHS because in FHM, it seems to be a lot easier to turn one Cup into a couple more than it was in STHS.
b. I'd say it's likely, yes. When looking at the East Hamilton at a rather easy route to the finals, I don't think it's unreasonable to think that Buffalo would have beaten all those teams that Hamilton eliminated as well. In the West Texas had some closer series against the likes of LA but given how strong they were in the regular season, I have a hard time believing that anyone but Texas could have taken on Chicago in that Conference.
c. I mean I can't stand Hamilton at this point but they are still a quality and historic franchise so I wouldn't relocate them at all and even if I did, I don't really know enough about Canadian cities to really pick a good location. Maybe Kitchener, not that it is that much more famous?
d. Kaarlo Kekkonen and Jimmy Wagner have been moving up into that territory for me as the two best representatives of the non-big four teams. A few seasons ago that Award clearly would've gone to Karl Krashwagen but he seems to be a little bit past his prime now. I think I would give this to Kekkonen just because his performances have been the most consistent on which is arguable the weakest of the teams considered.

Welp, you waited until the last day to grind out your CW and the CC finals are longggggggg over by now. congrats to [TEAM], woo! Was it an exciting final, or predictable? Is one team the clear winner?

I'm rooting for pretty much anyone that isn't Hamilton so I'm happy with how the finals went. It also gives us in LA the opportunity to claim that we at least got eliminated by the eventual Champions which essentially makes us the third best team of the postseason. Right? Right. Luckily we actually got an exciting final out of this one that went all the way to 7 games. The whole playoffs actually hade quite a few surprises in stock this time compared to previous years, like Hamilton only going into the playoffs third in their Conference, then absolutely dominating everyone through the first three rounds only to lose against Texas who had more problems on their road to the finals. All in all a nice interesting playoffs this time!

hahahahahaha remember this task from last season? The one where everyone was like "nah we're good, tampa and BAP will be in the finals soon and you'll see that the old guard will make way for the new young teams". Now that we have the exact same fucking teams in the final again, let me ask, is parity an issue in the SHL? How do we combat this?

Ehhhh can I not just claim affiliation TPE here or something given how much I have written about parity over the last few years? But yeah parity is a critical problem that the league has been facing ever since our switch to the new engine, it took a while for the majority of the league to pick on this but I think it has been ever present on peoples minds for a few seasons now and to their credit, HO has taken a multitude of steps to try and adress this. And I think we have actually seen some encouraging signs these season that the measures might be working at least to a certain extent, especially in the playoffs. I would argue that in regards to things like the salary cap contract rules or the regression system we have done enough to combat the lack of parity and further steps in that direction would actually take things to far. If our parity problems still persist over the next few seasons then I think the only real way to combat them will be through the engine itself, mainly by limiting GMs ability to use all of its tools and tactis for maximum benefit of their teams.

+2.5 TPE?

6.a. What is worth more to you, a cup win in the FHM era or the STHS era?
Although I was not around in the STHS era I've heard plenty about it. The biggest thing I've heard is that there was more randomness and upsets, leading to a better amount of parity. Although this does make for more interesting seasons, it makes me feel like FHM cups are probably harder to earn, given that you have to make sure you're actually the better team. This is why an FHM era cup is probably worth more to me.
b. Be honest, would we have seen the same final 4 as last year (Chicago, Texas, Hamilton, Buffalo) had BUF/HAM and TEX/CHI not run into each other in the second round?
Given my previous response about less randomness, I suppose this would probably the most likely scenario under a different playoff format. I do think there's a chance that Baltimore could have beaten one of the listed teams as they also had a very strong season, but they also got swept by Hamilton, so who knows.
c. Hamilton has a population of roughly 5 people. Where would you relocate the franchise?
At the risk of angering those five, probably very dedicated fans, I would love to move the team out of Hamilton. I'm always a huge fan of seeing teams in the Maritimes, and I feel they don't get enough love. So maybe put a team in Halifax? I was already saddened to find out they lost their J team, so I'd love to see them get an SHL team.

Welp, you waited until the last day to grind out your CW and the CC finals are longggggggg over by now. congrats to [TEAM], woo! Was it an exciting final, or predictable? Is one team the clear winner?

So Texas won the cup this season over Hamilton in 7. Was it predictable? I mean I probably expected Hamilton to win again, but Texas winning is really not that surprising. These were the exact same teams that made it to the finals last time around so clearly they are both doing something right. At least this season it was much more exciting, with the series going the distance, along with some very tight OT games along the way. Earlier on in the playoffs I definitely expected BAP to put up more of a fight against Hamilton so maybe that was surprising. It would have definitely been a more interesting finals if LAP and BAP had both won their semis, in any case.

I mean, given how much this topic has been beaten to death, obviously parity is an issue in this league. There has only been 6 teams to make it to the finals since S53, and two of those were within the first three seasons. I honestly think the league has taken some great steps already to help address this, including the regression changes (as much as that angered some folks). I imagine an eventual shift to FHM8 might shake some things up for at least a little bit until a new meta is found. The most drastic step would have to be limiting the tactics that can be changed, but I do think that is kind of a last resort. Either way, I think HO has a very difficult task ahead of them in addressing this issue that is clearly hurting the league. At the very least, it will be interesting to see how the changes that have already been implemented will affect the top teams in the next couple seasons.

You log on to the SHL. Oh shit gotta do your Finals Predictions. Yay Hamilton Texas finals, love shl parity. Weird, the title says s61 finals predictions but its s62? But wait, all the PTs are labeled s61, we're on activity check #388, and no one is complaining about regression. You must have woken up back at the start of the S61 Finals! What do you do differently now that you know how the next season will play out. Change some of your casino bets? Predict some drama? Cheat at primetime?

I think I'm not alone in saying that I would definitely change some of my predictions I made throughout the season. As predictable as FHM seems to be, I keep hesitating in betting on a team like Hamilton or Texas in my casino bets and predictions. Of course I would change those to be more accurate, as I'm doing my best to try and stay near the top of my S62 draft class in TPE, but it's tough with such a good class so I'll take any bit of help I can get. Further, I learned very late in the season about how to do tests and help out the team more. I think if I were to go back I'd try and be more help and hopefully give an extra bit of a push for LA in the season and playoffs. Instead, hopefully I can be of more use next season as we're still in position to make a good push.

1. Trivia Verification Word - Bangladesh

6a. I would much rather have a cup in the FHM era than the STHS era. There are a few reasons for this. One: I've only ever played in the FHM era and I like seeing the diamonds and fast moving icons much more to any text. Two: STHS is a dumb game and I believe mr. Tremblay should feel awful for his efforts. Three: Just reason number two again but it's such a dumb game and league boomers are clinging to nostalgia.

6b. Being honest, I do not know if we would have had the quote unquote "big four" in the final four. For as much as people complain about seeing the same faces, I also feel like there are still a lot of upsets. I am sure that Calgary would be the first to point out how they were upset by the Seattle Argonauts as a reason as to why the regular season doesn't solidify the way the postseason will go.

6c. I would not relocate the Steelhawks to anywhere else. Relocation is bad. If you want a team so badly, just make one and have it join up with the association. Sure, you'll start in a lower tier of hockey, but if you work well, make savvy moves and play good hockey you might just find yourselves in the SHL proper one day. I'm a Sonics fan so take it from me when I say that relocation isn't fun for anyone. Plus, there isn't too much in Hamilton, let them keep their hockey team.

6d. The best player to never make the finals is clearly Reid Sutherland. Dude is an absolute stud and he would be a finals MVP, no, he will be a finals MVP when he takes the Seattle Argonauts to the Challenge Cup Finals. His offensive production has been incredible; both for Seattle and for the fantasy teams of people all around the league.

7. Challenge Cup Ring

12. Milestones - 1 TPE

14. I think that out of all the teams in the SHL, we are most likely to see the Toronto North Stars blow everything up. I think the team itself is fine, but the core has been there for forever, I think they've been unfortunate in the terms of the strength of both their old and current division mates, and I think that the recent uncertainties in their front office will lead to them losing some of their best and oldest players and starting to build assets to build around their current crop of rookies (they did have three first rounders in season fifty-nine) or even the returns of those future assets. People love to complain about parity here and if that pertains to the general managers and war rooms of teams on the cusp of breaking into the top four, the North Stars might get an absolute haul for their players in deals that look to unload a star player to a team on the cusp of greatness.

20. I guess I'll take this space to advertise the World Simulation Basketball League, or WSBL for short. We're pretty new, having only just completed our first season, but I'd say we're pretty fun so far. I think a pretty big plus of our league is that our newness stops people from having stupid debates about parity. Plus, my team the Seattle Orcas have won the first and only championship in league history, and I think that's pretty sweet. The cool thing about a basketball league is that the rosters are far smaller than other sports so even with less TPE or less interest, one can easily find themselves in a position to play a key role on a team. In our game seven finals win, our self admitted 'mid earner' @LordBirdman shot the dagger three the brought us the championship, and for that I'll be forever grateful to him. If you like basketball, cool people and the idea of helping a new league grow, then the WSBL would definitely be for you. If you join, come say hi to me.

c. Hamilton has a population of roughly 5 people. Where would you relocate the franchise?
d. Who is the best player to NOT make the final in the past 2 years?

a. I wasn't around for the STHS era, but from what I've been told and what I've heard, it was more "random" in who won, and was harder to "game." With that in mind, it would seem more prestigious to win in FHM, where there is more knowledge to be had and more effort is needed, although that's really for the GMs. As a player, I'm just max earning and hoping RNG goes my way.

b. The most likely answer is yes, although it would be a little dependent on match-ups. I think Chicago definitely makes it to the semi-finals if they go up against LAP or SEA. And I also think BUF makes it if they go against TBB. But I do think BUF vs BAP would have been a tight series, so no guarantee that the semis would be the same old same old.

c. As a Missouri native, Kansas City never really gets the credit it deserves. It has passionate and dedicated fans in the Chiefs and Royals, and a large population that unfortunately gets overshadowed by St. Louis, despite KC being the much nice city. I know they had an IRL franchise before in the Scouts, but it's time they got another shot, both in the NHL and SHL.

d. Looking at the leader boards, Ryan Shepard stands out, having back to back seasons in the top 10 in points and leading the league in assists in S62. And it makes sense that a Chicago player would be here, as they are probably the best team to not make the final in the past two seasons.

Now that we have the exact same fucking teams in the final again, let me ask, is parity an issue in the SHL? How do we combat this?
It's easy to look at how the SHL playoffs panned out this year (gee Bill you get two HAM/TEX finals in a row?) and say that there's no parity in the league, but parity isn't something that can just change overnight, unless you just go marbles style and make results random. What we did see change this season is that we had at least a half a dozen teams have a legitimate shot at making the finals. BUF and CHI definitely got the short-end of the stick with their early opponents in HAM and TEX. And even in the finals itself, we saw a much different series this time, a 7 game nail biter, versus last season's clean sweep snorefest. Parity should be a crawl, not a sprint, and it looks like things are moving forward in the right direction. It will be interesting to see the newest regression change come into play and what effects (and side-effects) it has.

Is there any other answer other than fixing my casino bets and getting that sweet quad-parlay multiplier? I did pretty decent in the primetimes and hattricks as well, but might as well  clean up those and squeeze in a few more TPE. But you know what I'd really, really want to fix? My fucking Fantasy Swap. The biggest mistake I made all season, by far. The problem wasn't who I swapped in. Picking up Elijah Jones was a great move, as he ended up finishing the season 41st overall in FP. But it was who I swapped out, and who I should have swapped out that still bugs me. Ethan Price was ice cold to start the season, and Rikard Hammarberg was off to a good start. Oh how wrong I was. The day I swapped out Price, he popped off, and ended up finishing the season 29th overall in FP. Meanwhile, Hammarberg went cold on a somewhat underperforming HAM team and finished 72nd overall in FP. The swap cost me 41 FP, and ended up losing by 47.4 in my group. Factor in the additional points I would have gained from swapping out Hammarberg instead, I would have won comfortably. Oh well, at least I still got 5 TPE for second.

There have been some good and some bad GMs in SHL history. (Mostly bad) Pick a GM you think was outstanding and explain why you think they were one of the better GMs in SHL history. Point to trades/signings/trophy wins/locker rooms to support your claim.

I may be a home with this pick, but I have to go with Puoli from Texas - yes that is my GM. We just won our second challenge cup, beating out the power house teams in buffalo and hamilton. Often when people look at Texas they see us as a top 5 team, but never in the same sentence as Hamilton or Buffalo. If you look at the Texas roster, you can see it is basically all built from the inside, with strong drafting and keeping the core together. Texas has not been a team that simply attracts free agents when someone retires, or if they trade someone away. Puoli constantly shows why he is one of the top if not the top FHM GM. Being able to add 2 challenge cups, while often having a weaker roster then his competition shows his ability to find something that works. I also have to shoutout RCD as he also plays a big role in the success of Texas!

A: That is a good question, I think the FHM era is more challenging to get to the top, but once you are at the top it is easier to maintain that spot. Hence leading to more opportunities to win. At the same time, the luck in STHS also makes it difficult to win. However I would have to go with FHM. (62 words)

B: I think so, those 4 teams are clearly the top teams in the league at the moment. We might have possibly seen BAP make an appearance as they are getting strong, but I believe they still require work on the FHM coaching side of this. I dont think this is a bad thing, in a short term view, but long term it is. (64 words)

C: Any where but Hamilton if I am being honest, lets get the team out of there. We can take the team back to West Kendall, as the people deserve a team. I think moving a team to Washington would be a decent idea, however it is getting tougher to justify locations with all the expansion teams now. (58 Words)

D: That is a hard question as there have been many good players, there are two players from one team that I think both should be there. That is Karl Krashwagen and Ethan Duncan on BAP. Both these players have been putting up strong seasons, and carrying the BAP team, however they have not gotten over the hump yet. (59 Words)

In your opinion, which team is on track to completely sell off all assets and begin a long rebuild? A few teams are already in the midst of this, but what teams are watching their window slowly close and need to get younger soon in order to start the climb back to the top?

Well I think we are already starting to see some teams selling off, however one team that may lose the race due to players openly stating they want to test free agency is the Toronto North Stars. There have already been 3 players on their roster openly state that they want to test free agency, by doing this it hurts the North Stars chance in moving them, but also the value that they would be able to get in a trade. If teams are willing to take the risk, they may just wait for free agency to roll around, instead of trying to trade for them prior to free agency. If these players leave either via trade or free agency, I think we may see more players on the roster asking for trades. As Toronto just came out of a rebuild, and there is a good chance they don't want to do it again. It will be interesting to see how toronto handles this situation.

a. What is worth more to you, a cup win in the FHM era or the STHS era?

When you win in FHM, it just means your team is the best in the league and there is absolutely no randomness there. When you win in STHS, it means your team was the luckiest and that is the hardest thing to accomplish so definitely worth more to win the STHS era especially when there is so much more excitement.

b. Be honest, would we have seen the same final 4 as last year (Chicago, Texas, Hamilton, Buffalo) had BUF/HAM and TEX/CHI not run into each other in the second round?
Lmao, this is fhm, of course we would have. Ain't no way LA is getting past those 4 teams so we for sure we for sure would have seen the same 4 teams. These 4 teams are the top 4 in the SHL and as long as management remains the same, they will remain the top 4. They have built the team so well and others aren't soing better.

c. Hamilton has a population of roughly 5 people. Where would you relocate the franchise?
They might as well relocate close by which is toronto and ya, let toronto have another team. The current will not do anything. And besides, toronto is the most hated hockey place in north america so it is fitting that this hamilton team becomes a Toronto team. Either Toronto or possibly just get out of north america and go to europe maybe and possibly just stay in europe.

d. Who is the best player to NOT make the final in the past 2 years

2 in real life years? My player and there absolutely is bias. He is a consistent great player and heavily underrated and he plays great in the postseason. Too bad it does not translate to team success as he has not won a playoff series for 10 straight seasons despite making the playoffs all those seasons. It is very tragic to see but it is just bad luck. Roenick is a consistent 20 goal scorer and consistent 50 point man and he not making the finals the past 3 years is shocking.

There are a lot of "could-have-been" draft picks in the SHL, but let's have some fun thinking about someone that busted hard. Write about their potential and where they were picked, and how that franchise could look *if* they had in fact panned out.

We're far enough away from the S56 draft that we have a very clear picture of which picks turned out okay and which ones aged worse than milk. Starting from the top of the draft, it doesn't take very long for us to reach our first big bust. Selected 5th overall by the New England Wolfpack, we had Grandmaster Funk. At the time of the draft this looked like a fantastic choice. Funk was active on the site and from what I heard a great locker room presence. With New England having three picks in the first round, their future was essentially secured. However, at a peak of just 484 TPE, Grandmaster Funk seems to have become burnt out from all the early dedication he gave to the league. If the pick had lived up to 5th overall, New England could've had an extremely tough top 4 defense to beat by now. In such a deep draft class it's a shame for the Wolfpack that their 5th overall pick ended up crashing so hard.

c. Hamilton has a population of roughly 5 people. Where would you relocate the franchise?
d. Who is the best player to NOT make the final in the past 2 years?

a. As someone who wasn't around for the STHS era, I can only speculate what victory must've looked like back then, but as far as I'm concerned a victory in the FHM era is more valuable. This idea shouldn't be confused with which victory is more satisfying or realistic for most teams to achieve though. It's clear that the GMs of successful teams in the FHM era work very hard on the sim aspect of the league which itself makes the victories well earned, even though it leaves much to be desired from a parity perspective.

b. I think it is very likely that we see three of the four teams return to the semis. The exception here is that I think Baltimore would probably beat Buffalo if they happened to matchup, allowing Baltimore to remain in this season's final 4. This is based purely on the results from the HAM-BUF and HAM-BAP matchups where Baltimore seemed to put up a better fight against the Steelhawks.

c. Since most people on the site seem to hate the franchise at this point, I think the best place to relocate them would be the result of a google search for "Most hated city in North America". Now of course this result has no real merit, and dislike for a city is a difficult thing to measure, but the first article that turned in my search had Detroit listed in the number one spot. To make room in Detroit for the Steelhawks, the current Detroit Falcons can relocate to the second city listed which is Las Vegas.

d. With the absolutely insane season he had this year, it's hard to answer with anyone other than Ryuuji Minamino. Of course picking someone on Chicago probably isn't the ideal answer to this question since they are one of the four teams who has seen too much recent success, but Minamino was the clear stand-out leader of this season who unfortunately fell short of the finals this time around.

Welp, you waited until the last day to grind out your CW and the CC finals are longggggggg over by now. congrats to [TEAM], woo! Was it an exciting final, or predictable? Is one team the clear winner?

Although the majority of the site was disappointed to see the same two teams in the final this year, the specific results were much more interesting than last season. For just the third time in the FHM era, the final playoff matchup went all the way to seven games. This alone provided a certain level of excitement, but also the games themselves had interesting back-and-forth play most of the time. There were two one-goal overtime games, three two-goal games, and two three-goal games. No shutouts. Although the results were interesting, it's still not a great sign for parity in the league. It's still a clear sign that although being 8th in average TPE, Hamilton has enough sim knowledge to put up a long fight in the finals against a much stronger Texas team, while quite a few higher TPE teams were swiftly eliminated in the first round. These sorts of upsets only seem to happen when Hamilton is on the winning side and it's discouraging to see Texas struggle to take this cup win.

Write your predictions for this year's IIHF tournament or WJC if you care about that more. Will there be surprises? Will any players make their country proud? Who's gonna suck? Be bold!

For all my IIHF predictions this year I put my full belief in team Sweden. They clearly have a strong and talented roster and this is the year that I think they will be stronger than ever. They have 9 players over 1900 TPE and no shortage of depth beyond that. They also have a solid goalie tandem who will be able to rely on each other for equal playing time rather than having to play one goalie to the point of exhaustion. This team has had its ups and downs in the past, but right now they are currently riding a wave of recent success and there are no signs that they will be anything but top-tier this season.

HO didn't feel like making a job posting for PT Director so they just put you in charge of picking the new one. So elect a new PT director, tag them, and explain why you think they'd be a great fit for the job. Or just someone you want to torture.

There's only one true answer to this question and of course the one who should take over the role of PT Director is @Secord. I still don't really have a clue about who they are or why their player, Victor Helstrom, has become a key topic in recent PTs, but it seems nonetheless that they are an important part of SHL PTs as we know them. Maybe we have to chant their name three times to bring them back to the site to fulfill their destiny as eternal PT Director. I think maybe Slash has been dropping these Helstrom hints all along because he knows that one day he might step down and has just been naming his successor this entire time.

With regards to a player that busted hard, I am going to start by pointing fingers at myself and basically announcing what we all already know, I busted hard on my previous player Patrice Nadeau. For the duration of my career in the SMJHL it was undeniable that I was the best goalie in the J at the time, this is not to inflate my ego and simply based on the hardware that I won with my Lethbridge team. People were expected me to be a superstar of a goalie going into the SHL. In my short 9 season career all I managed to accomplish was a tpe high of 723, and naming myself a career backup, as I was unable to really hold the fort in the started position for very long, about 1 season. Averaging a .902 in the SHL, pretty subpar, I was a bust for sure as I was this highly touted up and coming goalie and fizzled out into a career backup goalie. (168 words).

d. Who is the best player to NOT make the final in the past 2 years?

a. I believe that both are weighed equally the same in my mind, to me a cup is a cup doesn’t matter what sim engine we were using, for a fun fact I didn’t win the cup ever on either engine, so It would have been nice to at least add that to my trophy cabinet but alas I am still hunting. (61 words.)
b. In all honesty? I am not sure perhaps? I hate playing this guessing game of who would have been in the top 4 because I truly believe there are a few teams that could push themselves in their primarily Baltimore and Los Angeles, so realistically that could have been a huge probability, but just didn’t end up happening that way and it is hard to say in the end. (69 words).
c. Oof. What a shot at Hamiilton. If I were to relocate the Hamilton Steelhawks, I would move them to the only other logical option, why don’t they have a team yet, in the city of Ottawa. Let’s have an Ottawa, Montreal, Toronto conference! Although, in this case Ottawa would be the best team. I am pretty sure I like this idea better than where they are currently located. (68 words).
d. Best player to not make the finals in the last 2 years, man you really put me into a bind here. Well lets just be lazy and go with Ryujji Minamino. Why? He had a monster season this past season and got bounced by Texas. For the season prior I am way to lazy to actually check how well he did so let’s say he also had a great season. ( 70 words).

I personally believe that a team that needs to blow it up is New England. Yes they are my old team and I just decided to leave them as a free agent, but I do believe, and have for a while that our window had been missed due to unfortunate circumstances out of the GMs control, such as players leaving or going IA during my tenure there. I believe that the team needs to rebuild, or build around the younger core players and bring in fresh faces to really bring a boost to the team. With currently very limited draft picks and a shallow prospect pool it’s looking bleak and I honestly feel that assets may need to start getting sold off, and we may soon see another Winnipeg situation which have been making themselves a future powerhouse. I truly believe Luke will be able to do this in New England and revitalize the team, and make me regret leaving in the end! Best of luck Luke!. (167 words)
