S66 PT #5: Hot Take Hoedown

Harrington is not at all worried about the opinions of people that have never touched ice in their life. Harrington is the best player in the league as usual if you ignore the biased awards voters and point talliers. This means that he has the freedom to ignore any criticism of his game or team and go straight to whats important. Attacking the people writing those comments for being basement dwelling losers. Harrington spends several hours a day just calling people who @ him on twitter names and insulting their physical appearances. He has been banned from twitter twice for just being mean. Its not all bad though, as he responds to as many positive comments as he can with in depth thought. But if you come at the king you best not miss, and Harrington doesn't have a scratch on him. Even reporters from major news corporations sometimes just get shit on if they ask one bad question.

Hockey prompt: Take 5: Manhattan has a good chance to represent the East in the Challenge Cup final.

Manhattan may have a better chance than the last very much seasons to represent the East in the Challenge Cup finals, but they are still pretty slim. I agree that they had the number of Atlanta all throughout the regular seasons, finishing their head to head with almost only wins. But still, they haven't finished first and not even second in the East. They also play Tampa Bay Barracuda in the first, a team they don't have such an impressive series against as they do with the Inferno. Still, if they make it over the first round, they have to repeat what they did in the regular season in the playoffs. And after that, they still have to get over another high flying team to get to the finals. So you see, they have a lot of obstacles to overcome to reach the finals and fight for the Challenge Cup. In some years it might be their time to shine, but this isn't the one for sure.

Lemo is not exactly the most extraverted person you'll meet, but he does have a reasonably sizeable following to his social media presence in the form of his Twitter account. There he shares his emotions, both positive and negative, on his own performance and that of his teams, both league and national. Occasionally Lemo also voices his opinions on some political issues. But he is also not above just the random "hey, it's another #shlhockey sunday" tweet.

In general, Lemo tries to remain even-keeled in the face of adversity and criticism from fans and the media. He tries to be self-aware enough to not take every negative comment to heart, but will always try to find a way to use it as motivation going forward. Sure, it can be hard to keep that balance through some tougher stretches and sometimes he does need to take a few steps back from the limelight and gather himself privately before being able to return to the public eye, but luckily he has not been in that situation too many times in his career.

After 69 shots on net with still no SHL goals to show for it, even the opposition started to feel so sorry for Lemo, that they decided to help him out :D
- Bad pass by Jack Klompus, he gave it right to Lemo Pihl.
- Lemo Pihl rips it to the net...
- Lemo Pihl will find the empty net, that should do it!

PLAYER PROMPT

It's fair to say that Kaapo Kampainen has had a disappointing career so far when playing at a high level. There weren't a lot of expectations for the former 2nd round pick when he was drafted by New England and traded to Edmonton before even playing a game in the SHL. But after he exceeded expectations and started to get quality ice time in Edmonton, Kaapo has yet to be the dominant player is abilities would allow him to be and that's sure to get the haters' attention, especially after another hugely disappointing playoff performance. But Kaapo has never taken what the haters say personally, simply because he doesn't care and isn't on social media much. He mostly uses it to promote stuff and spread kindness so he doesn't interact with haters. He's such a gentle soul that he doesn't go out to pick fights, even on ice, so it certainly doesn't happen on social media either. He just shuts it off and focuses on his play and that's the most important stuff.

While Rylie Versi does enjoy keeping a strong social media presence. He has never let it get to his head in anyway. He will sift through pages and pages of tweets and posts reading the good and bad. This ability to completely ignore the trolls transferred over to help him deal with overbearing media. While Rylie tries to stay professional while representing the team some of the questions he's been asked since moving up to this level of play have left him bewildered or just straight pissed. While his frustration boiled over Versi stayed cool and just would ask for new questions if he didnt understand or didn't like the way the reporter was wording it. Staying calm during tense situations is one of the many reasons Rylie is where he is now. You cant please everyone so why try, Rylie isn't worried about the thoughts of toxic fans and media.

Take 2:

Being honest here, even if Montreal somehow blows past Toronto they probably do not get past whoever is in the next round and even then if by some complete miracle they were to beat that team they would get absolutely eaten alive by Atlanta who is more or less likely odds on to be making up one half of the eastern conference final. The reality is that they are probably an even match for Toronto (as this is post the series they managed to get swept probably against the odds) but if you take a closer look at the stats inside the fhm 8 engine rather than our index which does not have all encompassing stats you can see that both them and Manhattan performed way over the odds and were probably in trouble once the playoffs started where the game seems to have a soft momentum reset. In the end neither team managed to win a game in their series and I would not be surprised to see them regress next season.

Take 1: More than half of the first round will be decided by sweeps.

It was not that many seasons ago that you would have heard a constant state of groaning about the lack of new faces in the SHL playoffs. And just a few short seasons later, we seem to have finally found a way to materially create a bit more parity and see the likes of Hamilton finally fading away after finding their way to 70% of the SHL's Challenge Cup Finals in the late 50s and early 60s. However, this season has proven that we have a similar problem growing in the SHL. The disparity of talent level between the strongest teams and some of those that just snuck in to the playoff picture is pretty large. And despite the fact that this hot take is no longer hot and the first round is over, it was actually fairly close to true. The best teams in the playoff this year seem to be lengths better than their opponents. And in the first round we saw 3 of the 8 series decided in a sweep. Even more interestingly however, we saw 3 of the 4 second round series decided by a sweep. There is certainly still some ways to go, but the teams at the top remain destined for another shot at the SHL's Challenge Cup.

Borje Samuelsson is probably harder on himself than anyone can ever be to him. That's why toxic or aggressive fans are not much of an issue for him. In fact, he appreciates toxic and aggressive fans because it shows that they have an invested interest in his sport. Even if it means they don't like him at all. When Borje sees those kinds of comments directed towards him, he laughs a little. Then he remembers the fact that he's getting paid millions of dollars to play this little game people like to call hockey. Then he laughs a lot. Once he finds something that makes him chuckle, Borje wants to see if he can dig anything else up. It would be ideal if he could find something to top the last thing he read. Borje prints all of these comments out and hangs them up in the dressing room. So that when stressful games arise, he can look back and have a little laugh again.

Whoever gave this out as a suggestion must really love chaos, and is also very cool and handsome indivudal. But it is silly that Hamilton will make it further than LA, when they are facing up against the great and firey Atlanta Inferno. And that so happened to be the case, with Atlanta sweeping Hamilton in only 4 games! now if you dont know what that means, it means that Hamilton didnt win a single game of theirs, while also Atlanta giving them the beatdown they deserve after so many seasons of shitting on the east. It is a new era for the eastern conference, with Atlanta, Tampa Bay Barracuda, and Manhattan Rage are on the come up. And you still got hitters in Philadelphia Forge, Buffalo Stampede, and maybe the Toronto North stars if their heavily regressed team doesnt get bogged down too much. But Hamilton didnt make it out of the 1st round, so we dont have to worry about it

Player Prompt. Esa Parmborg is old and is not on social media at all, he tried twitter for a week but then forgot his password and never signed on again, that was his only stint with social media. He's old and doesn't understand that all the hype is about. Twittering, Twattering, Facebooking, TicTocking, Instafacing or whatever the correct terms are it's all greek to him. He has a good relationship with Calgary media as he's been the team a very long time and is quite charistmatic. He gives a great interview and both the media and fans love him. Reporters are always trying to get him to start another twitter account because he quickly got 50k followers in a week but he just isn't into it. Other people post his quotes on their social media and he hears about it in the locker room but otherwise it's a newspaper guy. Parmborg is old school and when playoffs come around he lays out a few classic quotes for the media to chew on and then focuses on his game. He's had success sticking to his routine and doesn't let any of the new age media stuff fluster him. Usually he has no idea what was said online anyway.
