It might be strange to some to learn that the Carolina Kraken's franchise has existed from the very start of the Simulation Major Junior Hockey League, albeit under many different faces. The franchise that is now known as the Carolina Kraken once had incredibly different roots. It took four seasons for them to represent Montreal, where they would stay for an astounding 46 seasons. Their story is one that is filled to the brim with excitement and history. With four total franchise names, nine championships, and countless General Managers & Co-General Managers, the Carolina Kraken's story is far reaching and astounding to look at.

The franchise comes from humble and messy beginnings, original starting out as the Brandon Blazers. Founded under Leafs4stanley, this leader would last for only two seasons before handing over the reins to Maxy, who themselves would only last for just Season 3. Abdeezy would take over the season after, rebranding the franchise into its first of its long running names, the Montreal Impact. The team would remain as the Impact for until Season 27, with numerous leadership changes along the way. In its 23 seasons as the Impact the team would see 10 different GMs, with four of them lasting only a single season. Although no GM would last more than 6 seasons at the helm, this is not to say the team was without success. GM Shutout would win the franchise’s first Four Star Cup in Season 7, leafsftw1967, who managed to remain the longest from Season 9 to Season 14, won back to back in Seasons 12 & 13. JNH took over afterwards and would win in Season 17, but that would be the last as the Montreal Impact.

Taking over in Season 26, GM Ballerstorm would lead the team through a rebrand into the Montreal Militia for Season 28. The rebrand would be an immediate playoff success as they won in Season 28, their first Four Star Cup in 11 seasons. Ballerstorm would only remain until Season 31 but achieved an astounding 180 wins in that time, although only the one championship. What would follow afterwards would be yet another revolving door of General Managers. Between Season 31 and Season 42, four more would attempt to lead the Montreal Militia. None would last more than four seasons each before BarnabasCollins would take over in Season 43, lasting until Season 48. Honorable mention does go to Copenhagen who won a Four Star Cup in Season 33. The last General Manager of the Montreal Militia would be FuzzSHL. Taking over in Season 49, FuzzSHL would win immediately in S49 with an incredible 13 rookies on the team. This would unfortunately be the last Cup for the Montreal Militia.

But not for the reasons you might think. With the input of their massive new draft class, FuzzSHL would rebrand the team yet again. Citing a lack of identity, alumni presence, and overall locker room disinterest FuzzSHL rebranded the team out of their Canadian home and into the American Carolinas. History may not repeat itself, but it does rhyme, as another rebrand saw yet another immediate success. The newest Simulation Major Junior Hockey League Team, the Carolina Kraken, would win the Season 50 Four Star Cup with a very similar roster to the previous season. FuzzSHL would win one more championship in S54, soon after handing off the reins to their draftee Sve7en for Season 56. Sve7en has remained at the helm since, shattering the record for longest GM in the franchise at what is currently 12 straight seasons of service.

The franchise has seen it all. The franchise has witnessed the usage of STHS, FHM6, and FHM8, the expansion to 10, 12, and now 14 team leagues, the change to 66 game seasons, and every part of history of the SMJHL. The faces of its players and leadership have changed dramatically in their many years, but their history will always be one of immense value.
