Missing the playoffs is certainly a bitter moment for Marton, a feeling he shares with the rest of the Kraken LR. Seeing teams with worse season get in because of division structure just feel likes a knife twist of the bad luck that has haunted him all season, carrying nearly the worst PDO in the J. Playing with a chip on his shoulder is pushing Marton to develop his power game more, relishing his role as an agitator and a grinder. He knows you create your own luck, so time to build strength and balance while learning to temper his aggression.
And he should work on his English as well, which he mostly gets from watching Survivor.

The Detroit Falcons prepared for the playoffs by having just gone through what I believe is a season that was beyond expectations. From being last in the conference and tenth in the league last season to fifth in the league and second, in the conference this success can be explained by a few things.
Such as veterans such as Bnana NWaffles, Jojo Larkin and C Jobin taking up the lead of the team in points to new additions through draft picks such as Bastien Primeau and Nash Topalo who through the season quickly formed a group that wanted nothing to do with finishing at the bottom of the standings for a second season straight. In net, Jeff Newman picked up the role of number one goalie and has played as one of the best netminders in the league having taken the lead from Toms Zile and Joel Farfalle who were the pair last season. Swiss Cheese did well also as an auxiliary. Say his name and he appears!
Believe In Joe Primeau! Believe In the Whalers!

To be honest, it was kind of weird. It was Sunday, we still had no idea who we were playing against. We knew we did not have the home advantage, so we had no idea where to fly to. So we were stuck in Nevada after losing our last game there, knowing that the best option was to wait in Vegas. I think it is best to summarize our playoff preparation as "what happens in Vegas stays in Vegas".
Lutz kept talking to girls at a strip club that he was a realist, but also he was ready to lead a Cinderella team, eager to cause the surprise of the first round and upset the whole hockey world by winning against a cup contender. Daisy, a regular, said that contrary to popular belief, it is not that rare to see a 6'2'' guy wanting to be a Disney princess at a strip club. Security kicked Valieva out of the hotel for an incident involving too much vodka and a game of rigged poker game with the local Russian mafia. Hammer tried to find the movie Miracle on ice and was surprised to find that Blockbusters were no longer a thing in Nevada. He claimed, pretty drunk, that he wanted to be a mix of Herb Brooks and Reggie Dunlop. We think Elmo got married. We are not sure. He was not on the bus this morning. We had our first game in Detroit six hours later. We lost. Go Knights go!

After a season where the Carolina Kraken just fell short, Liam Logger feels partially responsible. He also feels very sad for the players on his team that are leaving the league without ever winning the SMJHL cup and he is determined to not let any more of his teammates and friends not achieve that goal. He has resolved that he will spend his off-season training harder, lifting heavier objects, getting better dekes and a better shot as to hopefully help his team have a better shot at the cup next season as well. He also wants to spend part of his off-season talking to the new draftees that will join the Kraken this off-season and make sure they feel welcome and have a good experience. After all, if they want to win the cup next season, their rookies are gonna have to step up in a pretty big way to help out the team.

After just barely squeaking into the playoffs, the Grizzlies did some very hard reflection on their season heading into their first games against the Maine Timber. They had some of their hardest workouts, some of their most intense video sessions, and some of their most thorough practices. They're definitely not coming into the playoffs with any expectations of easy wins or light competition. They realize that this is going to be some very trying time on the ice, that will require their absolute maximum attention and effort. The coaches have been relentless in running them through drills, making them repeat the same drills over-and-over until they achieve a level of familiarity that they deem acceptable. They've reviewed hours of video from their games against the Timber so far this year (all of which resulted in a loss for the Grizzlies). They're excited to see what they're truly made of in the playoffs, and regardless of the outcome, expect to be a much better team every day.

The Maine Timber had a rough start to the season but the more games the team played, the better the chemistry on the ice was. Maine has one of the strongest locker rooms in the league and the group is really close. They're determined to go into this post-season and do whatever they can to win the Four Star Cup together as a group as this is one of the few times in franchise history where players from storied management player agents are involved. The team has been putting in extra reps for practice and is really studying the film for teams that they may see through the playoffs. While they will be relying on the veterans to step up and perform, the rookies have been doing whatever they can to improve their games. Each of them have been assigned a mentor who has kept them focused on what they need to do to improve and this is one of the best rosters that the Timber have had backing them up in the playoffs.

Kelowna is going into this season prepared for the playoffs. All season the focus has been on tough, physical play and winning along the boards. Wins come from goals and goals come from possession, so we're going to focus on winning in the corners and along the boards, and on the transition game. Detroit is a very strong team and it's going to take a lot of effort to take some games off them, but I have every confidence in this team that we can bring it together and win the series. The primary goal in playing against Detroit is to shut down their top-tier guys. Bnana NWaffles is obviously a frontrunner to win the MVP this season, and at 96 points in 66 games he's a very clear driver of their offense. If we can stifle the speed and creativity by their top guys, I think we might have a fighting chance.

The Regina Elk Major Junior hockey team have prepared for the playoffs by gathering together each night at midnight to perform a ritualistic seance as well as a sacrifice to the Elk Gods. It is unknown whether these superior beings will look fondly upon our hockey team, but early communications with the almighty Elk look promising. To being each seance, the entire team gathers at the blue line of the Brandt Center and fires slap-shots at the open goal. For every goal, the entire team chants ELK and then claps their stick to the ice. @lespoils stands on the team's bench, clutching a team sweater and muttering the Elk's latin name Cervus canadensis over and over again. By the time the team has put the puck in the net 225 times (the same amount of goals we scored in the regular season), everyone in the arena experiences a group hallucination that lasts 7 seconds. Finally we debrief on what we saw, illustrate the images in our heads and head home for the night. The illustrations captured to date of the Elk Gods can be seen here.

The Detroit Falcons are absolutely a playoff ready team. We have been spending some extra time in the weight room and watching some video footage to see how we can make ourselves an even better team. The last one off the ice at practice is always Bnana Nwaffles. The automated puck feeder machine is constantly tossing pucks which Bnana will then shoot into the each corner of the net. Its mesmerizing watching this dude prepare for every single scenario when the puck hits his stick. Its like he knows what to do. Nash always prepares himself by curling up on the couch and getting some good rest. He can never sleep in just one place, so he alternates between his different beds scattered around the house. Before each game, Nash makes sure to go around to each player & staff member on the team and get some good head pats. It’s a really good motivator for him and makes him feel like an integral part of the team. Before heading out onto the ice, Nash lets out a loud Howl (SKREEEEEEEEEEEE) and that releases the team out onto the ice. SKREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE

Philip Fry will be spending the upcoming downtime with family & friends hanging out at his old job at Planet Express. He will catch up with his 12 times great nephew Hubert Farnsworth for whom he used to work for as a delivery boy for Planet Express delivery. He will get into some trouble with his old best pal Bender Bending Rodriguez. Whether it be killing all humans or competing in the little miss New New York tap dance competition there is no short of fun activities for this duo. They may be bad for society but they're great for each other. He will of course spend the majority of his time with his one true love, Leela. The spend some time with her family down in the sewers with all of the mutants. They will travel the world(s) and catch up with their old friends and of course they will reminisce and plan for the Future(ama).

The Quebec City Citadelles have made the Season 67 playoffs!! HYPE HYPE HYPE BOOT HOOT!!
Now that the excitement has been expressed, it is now time to talk about how we have prepared for our upcoming series against YUM. Truth be told as a backup goalie I have absolutely no idea how the team is preparing outside of the locker room. My role has been pretty minimal within the team's overall game strategy that I could probably sneak out of practice and head to the local golf course for 18 holes before they'd notice me missing. I'll just tell them that I finished my drills early and dipped, hopefully that lessens the fine they hand me. Who knows, maybe Ramen and Flex are feeling nice and decide to spare me any punishment for my planned debauchery. But on a serious note, we are working hard, and we are more than ready for today's series!

The Kelowna Knights have been dreaming about making the playoffs from the beginning of the season. The new batch of rookies met after one practice at the beginning of the season to make a real push to perform in playoffs. They were looking to make a run. After that day, the rookies stayed late every day at the rink to get a couple more hours on the ice. They practiced shooting, passing, running through the power play and penalty kill again. Anything they could think of. This mentality spread throughout the team. By the end of the season every player was showing up early to the rink and hitting the gym, they wanted to ensure they were in the best shape to be ready for the physical play that was to come. The night before their first playoff game, the team got together and watched Miracle on Ice, just to get even more excited for the game that was to come.

Anchorage was looking to take a step forward this season, and was prepared once again to make the playoffs. While the boats successfully entered the post-season, they were matched up against a powerful St. Louis Scarecrows squad - they had added players like eventual team points leader Rikkert Biemans near the trade deadline, and has shaken off their early season disappointments to close out the season with a 11-3-2 stretch, for a total 38-25-3 record. The initial play-in round looks promising, with the lower TPE Armada splitting the opening two games in St. Louis, and losing game 3 in a narrow 3-2 OT decision, but the Crow's high-octane forward core closed out the series in the next two games, meaning that Anchorage was out in a 5-game series. For the offseason, Anchorage is looking to capitalize on the robust S69 rookies that will come in, as well as growing the healthy core of S68 and S67 players that make up the majority of their roster as of right now.
Thank you to Ham and Sulo for the sigs!

After the final game of the season was played, the Maine players, management, and support staff all got into this fleet of 4x4's and headed off into the spooky wilderness of the great state of Maine. The team is away for a pre post season bonding. No electronics, no phones. They will be spending the weekend working together, or just hanging out. Thinking up new plays and gaining that chemistry, goofing off and having a good time.
Some of the more experienced vets knew the drill, so they loaded up dozens of coolers with beer, rum and bourbon and cigars and the convoy made its way out into the darkness of the forest. Arriving at an isolated encampment a few hours later, the team got to work figuring who was sleeping where, assigning cooks and just taking note of their surroundings. Much to their surprise they found a ice rink that had hept the ice due to the cooler temperature in the forest, and a bus with all their equipment rolled up behind them. Coach jumped out with a sly grin and whistle in his mouth, blew it, and said "On the line in 5 minutes, we're skating tonight!" |
