S68 PT #2: Monstars Due: December 4th @ 11:59 PM (PST)
#31

With the ability-stealing ray, the Monstars went after some of the most iconic names in the NBA at the time to achieve their superstar powers. Garza would take this a step further and go after one of the most iconic players in SHL history - Esa Anrikkanen. While the SHL star retired over twenty seasons ago, he is surely still alive due to his insanely long playing career (30 seasons!) being an indicator of his incredible longevity post-SHL. Hopefully an easy target due to his now geriatric nature, Garza will find access to Anrikkanen's retirement home and zap them for all of their skill and longevity. Anrikkanen resembles a well-rounded excellence of offence and defense that any player would aim for in their journey. Being able to last thirty seasons of professional play would be an added benefit as well, as the now stricter regression rules would make a career that long HOF-worthy on it's own.

Player Prompt.
The best goalie in the league right now is Olof Karsikko of the New England Wolfpack.
He already has three rating at 20 : Positioning, Recovery and Reflexes.
He also had four stats at 19 : Blocker, Glove, Rebound and Low Shots.
Those are the main stats for a goalie and my build will try to be close to that. So far, my build is capped so even if I can steal them, I won't be able to use them and completely dominate the league. I would love to uncapped because my season is not going really well personally, but the team is winning with a lot of rookies so it might get better later on.
So, if I'm stealing something it will be those. It will give me an edge over everyone else when I will enter the SHL next season. With a young team is Texas it would be nice to have to stats.

Player prompt:

Is there any option to steal back missing youth from younger players? No? Alright, then we'll go with one of the most important goalie skills and that's positioning. Can't go wrong with bringing that one up to 20. There are currently 9 other goalies in the league that have that attribute at 20 and some also have a 20 at other important attributes. Who's the easiest to steal it from? My choice here is Mat Smith and there are different reasons, a) because we're goalie partners on team Finland so he would never suspect me doing anything "vicious" like that and b) just look at him: he's a dog. I could just throw a stick and he would return it to me so I wouldn't even have to look suspicious. Just pet the dog a little before the game and absorb some skills at the same time with that skill stealing energy beam. Sounds relatively easy and I think this could work.

Creative Written Prompt

Professor Farnsworth has burst in and said "Good News Everyone! I have created a new ray gun that creates an energy beam and steals the skills from the best players and transfers it to you and I want you to test it Fry."

Fry is excited and enlists his best pal Bender to plan the ultimate skill stealing heist. They start by converting the Planet Express hangar into a speakeasy and start spreading word around the league of a cool new bar with the promises of hookers and Blackjack. They call in favors from their friends Amy and Leela to flirt with the targeted players and devise a clever way of laser targeting the ray to tag specific people. By the end of the night the plan has come together and worked flawlessly, or so they thought.

Professor Farnsworth initials the transfers of skills into Fry and he quickly heads to the rink to test out his newly acquired skills only to find he can't even pass the puck more than 5 feet much less stay standing on his skates. When he questions the Professor he remarks "Oh my, I had wired this thing backwards. Fry any skill you had before has now been transferred to those top players. You're even worse than you were before."

Fry should have known better.

Prompt #1
I would definitely get a scoring touch or some hitting maybe something else. I would probably prefer scoring tho because i need scoring so im not stuck on the 3rd line forever. My scoring is not the best and would be pay better, I'm already a really good puckhandler so good shooting would be a very good fit with my puckhandleing another thing that would be good would be skating even tho I'm pretty good at that but i could be a dangler if i had better speed and be way better then a power forward (what i am right now) but idk i would benift from any ability unless its a goalie abilty cuz you know I'm not a goalie yeah i still think shooting is the best for me. These is some of the ability i would want shooting,hitting,speed,face-offs. See you next time

Ohhh I'd be stealing TPE from around the league. No one would be safe from my skill stealing beam. There would be alerts throughout the league that Thief Of Cheese is now Thief Of TPE and I will relentlessly steam from each and every player I can come across that is not part of my team. Just wait, I will be rolling with 20 points in each and every attribute and be completely unstoppable on the ice. Hell, if I can just steal the TPE, I will go ahead and work up my goalie stats too because why not?

Then I will share with my other teammates and we will DOMINATE the SHL.

I do realize this is not the spirit of the question that was asked, but let us all be realistic. If we do not do it this way, someone else will. And what will likely happen is that we will all get into wars stealing each other's skills constantly. Back and forth stealing. Then one day the league will decide that this is not a good thing and that some poor IA players are sitting with skills at 0 which "hurts the league" and will ban us all from doing it.

Lias has a few important attributes that will help him get really close to other players in the league to siphon off their hockey superpowers. The first skill he will utilize to make this happen is his strength. He is going to go and hide out in the ceiling above the teams' locker rooms and wait for them to come in after the game and then zap them (but only in the areas where they'd be wearing clothes, because he's not a creep or anything). The second thing that will come in handy here, something that doesn't really help Lias most of the time in hockey but will be very useful here, is his size. He is very small. He can hide up there in the very small crawlspace in the ceiling pretty much indefinitely and nobody will notice because he can move very quickly and quietly due to being small. All in all, it's a pretty foolproof plan.

PLAYER PROMPT Written task: Becoming a top-level hockey player doesn’t happen overnight. To succeed, mastering fundamental skills can take your game to the next level which is so important. The first fundamental skill you need is exceptional passing. Fundamentally, because of the team-based nature of hockey, passing is an essential skill. Although individuals are capable of scoring all-important goals, matches aren’t won on the efforts of just one player. As such I would take Salzberger Lillehammersson playmaking capabilities. Over the past couple of season, he has been one of the best playmakers in the league always being near the top of the assist leaderboard. Precision aiming shooting is also an important skill. In hockey, precision is far more pivotal to success than power in a shot enabling players to pick their spot with more accuracy against a goalie. With this being said I am going to with Mats Marner’s shot. I know this maybe biased with my own player but Marner has scored more goals then anyone else in the SHL over the past five seasons.

Creative Prompt

I understand that stealing players' powers will be pretty difficult. Thus, I will be as discrete as possible by inviting all the good players to a party at my house to celebrate one of their accomplishment. Thus, one by one I will give them a big hug just to show my appreciation and secretly have the beam on my hand piercing through their body. I will give the excuse of me squeezing too hard as why the beam may hurt so the players won't notice. If I can't get everyone to hug me because they don't like being hugged (which is totally understandable) I will put sensors all over the dinner table and find some way to indirectly beam those powers to me as they're eating dinner. That way, the players won't notice that their powers are being sapped from them every time they take a bite of their dinner. Finally, I will be sure to give them an extra-hearty dinner to replenish their batteries so that they don't wonder why they're tired all of a sudden.

Nailing the best players in the league with this skill stealing beam would be pretty easy in my opinion. Most of the players like some sort of alcohlolic beverage, so I would figure out which players I wanted to steal skills from and then what their favorite beverage was. The easiest way would be to pose as an alcohol sales rep doing some sort of survey that comes with free booze. No one turns down free booze. Lets be honest, it doesn't even have to be good booze because most folks will at least try free booze, right? Anyways, once my secret agent booze surveyor has compiled a list of booze preferences, the boys in the lab will get to work on planting this ray device in a bottle or can of said booze. Beer, whiskey, wine, whatever. Then each player will get a nice bottle or case of whatever they prefer and when they open the can or bottle they'll get blasted and I'll soon have all the best player's skills for my own!

Player Prompt
Stealing other player skills sounds mean, but if it jumps me right to the top of the leaderboards then it could be worth it. I would start by taking Marco Barengrub defensive skills. He may be a forward, but his checking, DFR and positioning is what dreams are made of. Follow up with Gonzo Gobbledygook speed, strength and agility in the movement areas and we are well on our way to domination. Add in the offensive talents of Sonnie McHits who can get open, shoot and handle the puck like an all star to add some scoring to my now defensive phenom and we are really talking. Some times you really just want to smash somebody, and for that I would take more strength, hitting prowess and balance of Jay O'Neil. All great player on their own, but if you were to combine them all into me, I would take the league by a storm and win all the awards and bring my team the cup!

Boots has been given a device from the team doctor's and although he's not so sure about the idea of stealing another player's skills, he's been given the task to do it, the Grinch guy has spoken and so it must be done. Once Boots is given his target, the plan is set out. Boots is given the insider details that Chicago Syndicate star Ben Jammin orders his food to his condo every Thursday night via Uber Eats and he takes the opportunity to take advantage of the situation. With some patience and lots of text messages from former Texas Renegade, Theo Kondos, who is playing the role of undercover spy, Boots figured out that Ben Jammin has ordered Fried Rice from his favorite Asian restaurant. He gets down there quickly and waits for the Uber driver to show up. Once he sees him picking up Jammin's order he offers him a reasonable amount of money for him to come along for the drive and to let him deliver the food. The driver is cool with it as he was eyeing something on sale for Black Friday and now has enough to get it.

They arrive to Jammin's condo and Boots gets out with the food. He knocks on the door and prepares the device. Jammin answers the door and the beam is fired. But to Jammin's stunned expression and confusion, nothing has changed. Boots hands the Fried Rice over and says "Thanks for choosing Uber Eats!" and leaves.

Jammin takes his Fried Rice over to his couch and prepares to enjoy some television and his meal. His team chat notification goes off on his phone. He takes a look and the team is "Scooting". He decides to join in but all he sees is
:Scoots:

Jammin has lost his Nitro.

Quote:Written Task: What skills would you take from which players around the league if you wanted to make your player the best they could be? What kind of attributes would you be looking for? Scoring touch? Longevity? Glove hand? Speed? What skills would be most important to your player, and who do you steal them from? (150+ words)

"So, doc, I can steal any skills I want?"
"My design is highly experimental, but yeah, that's how it works."
"I want Jacques Hammer's scoring abilities. He knows how to put a goal in the net."
"Excellent, anything else?"
"I want to stop pucks with my blocker, like Sea Jebus."
"You... you're playing center. I doubt that would be practical. Ask for skills that would make you a better teammate".
"Ok, I get it. I want to announcer's ability to say Munko Aitmukhambetov's name. I have struggled for months."
"I was thinking more about..."
"... And I want a cool name. A better one. Like Cole Dasice."
"This is not what I meant by..."
"... And I also want to be a superhero too. A hockey player during the evening, and a superhero during the day, drinking beer. Like Aleman.  I want to be Aleman's sidekick."
"Pete Aleman is not a superhero..."
"Of course, he is. He has a great name, and an even better alter ego."
"*sigh*  Okay, anything else?"
