S71 PT#2: Amenities and Appellations

Player Prompt: Written Task

The weight room and training facilities are an absolute top priority when it comes to what Roddy is looking for. State-of-the-art exercise equipment, cardio machines, accessories and proper climate control for training areas. A bundle of the classics and staples as well: proper weight training equipment, barbells, dumbbells, heavy tires and hammers, sleds and ropes and harnesses for pushing, pulling and certainly no freaky stuff. Additionally, having staff and technicians on hand to maintain and operate heart and blood oxygen monitors is highly important. On the recovery side, hot and cold soaking pools are a must, along with infrared and classic saunas. Massage rooms must be properly staffed, and come with good vibes: background music, relaxing aromatics, etc.

The video room is also important. It should have plenty of screens of various sizes, both fixed and hand-portable, along with notebooks and supplies for coaches and players to make notes in whatever way they are comfortable. And above all else, in the training facilities and player lounge areas, comfortable seating and handy snacks are a necesity. Without comfy chairs/sofas/loungers, and quick access to tasty and nutritious snack foods, the whole pro athlete environment falls apart.

Written Task: Tell me what your player cares most about in terms of stadium amenities. What do they expect to see? What would surprise them, positively or negatively? What do the weight room and film room absolutely have to have? (150+ words)

Seamus has only one desire for his stadium, and that is that there are plenty of places for fans to sit and enjoy beer. Since this is already a staple to even the smallest of stadiums, it is not usually a big lift for a team to make sure these accommodations are reasonable. Now, after winning the cup, the team feels like they have a little more say in the plans of the owners and Seamus included some improvements to the amenities to his wish list. There are plenty of places were a fan could grab a cold one, but there is not a lounge where fans could go to sit in comfort in limited capacity and enjoy giant screen tvs while also enjoying a cold one. It was the idea that this special beer hall could be used as incentives for raffles or special events to increase alternative revenue sources for the team. Always an entrepreneur, Seamus is still waiting for his plan to be approved.

CREATIVE PROMPT / STORY MODE - Location, Location, Location

Okay so, of course New Englanders and Bostonians wouldn't vote to move their own hockey team to the Czech Republic, right? Of course not! Instead what we'll do is infiltrate Boston's society, ceaselessly promote Czech culture and subtly begin to change Boston's culture through suggestion. Eventually, Boston becomes more and more Czech (Czechophiles perhaps more likely) as Czech restaurants open serving Czech beer. Eventually, the popularity of Czech culture becomes so overwhelming that it sifts into all facets of life. Czech school teaching the Czech language to kids who become Czech politicians running for a Czech party. The city council becomes full of Czech sympathizers who vote to rename the city to Prague at which point this entire plot reaches it's fruition: the team has not moved, but we are however now located in Prague. They next make efforts to re-make Prague square in the former city of Boston, and perhaps even attempt to secede from the union, after which the second American Civil War breaks out with Czechs on one side and everyone else on the other in a fight to determine the self-determination of all Czech people in North America, and afterwards, the world.

PLAYER PROMPT - Amenities Wish-list

There are so many things a professional sports organization should have readily available for any players.

First let’s start with the basics, food. There should be a buffet of food readily available for a team. Taco station, all you can eat pasta, cheese spread, chips of all kinds and a nut bar. With the best McFlurry Machine money can buy, having a broken ice cream machine is not acceptable with a sports franchise. Oh and the drinks would be everything from Gatorade to Whiskey. You want a beer, we got it, wine cooler, sure, rum and coke, name your favourite brand.

They should have on hand a gaming room, for team bonding, because let’s be honest we all need some time away from the stresses of everyday life and the grind of playing hockey. The room would have a few arcade machines on either side. Down the middle would be a 90” TV with the latest game systems ready to go. Bean bag and gaming chairs all around. Bring your drinks and food and have a team tourney going on.

Finally the team would need to have large screen high speed tablets connected to a team internet, definitely not for porn use at home…for reviewing games and plays at home. Not porn use, game use…

Every one of these items would be expected in a good team locker room and facility. We do not need anything else for success.

Creative Prompt.

The Newfoundland Berserkers will get a new arena. The old/current one, in St John's, was/is already somewhat close to the water, near the St John's Harbour, but the new one should be even closer to the water. Right next to it somewhere, overlooking the ocean. In winter when everything is frozen people can skate outside the arena. In summer while there is no hockey going on, people can use it for all kinds of different events and have a beach right next to it. I don't care if there are no beaches there at the moment: just put one there. You have the money. As far as the name goes there was a long discussion between players and alumni. We don't have a final name yet, but I believe it's not going to be "Sad Ketchup Arena". Discussion will continue for a while. Maybe we'll go with "Happy Bloodbath Arena" or something that fits better to Berserkers.

"So, I don't know how this is all working out, I think it's mostly down to opinions, but the guys in the advertising department asked me for my take on a few things--I made sure to clear that this wasn't an NDA sort of thing, I'm all good to talk about this on the cast--but for one, they wanted my take on a name. I said, ain't the place gonna be fuckin' named after a sponsor of some kind? They said, sure yeah, but we want to call it something. So I thought about it for a bit, and the only thing that really made any sense to me was naming it after some building in Greece. So I threw out 'The Parthenon' and thought it sounded a bit too cheesy but the ad guys fuckin' ran with it. Not sure it'll be the final choice, but hey fuck it, whatever.

As for placement, I think it only makes sense to put it down by the Needle. Tourists are all fuckin' down there anyway, maybe it'll convince them to drop by and get nosebleeders up in the top rows. Anyway, that's how my week was. We're gonna get into some of the news surrounding the NBA playoffs here in a bit, but I'm going to throw it over to a word from this week's sponsor, HelloFresh..."

Creative Prompt

The new arena for the Toronto North Stars will be placed right back into the heart of downtown Toronto. Like many sport teams, the arena will be named after the biggest sponsor (a.k.a. the company with the deepest pockets). As a result, the arena will be called the RBC arena. The new arena is not going to be changing the surrounding too much as the downtown Toronto area is already very developed and established with a number of tourist attractions and stores. However, the new arena will be enhancing the community with the new building adding a new landmark to the surrounding area. In addition to that, the surrounding stores will have their land value increased (as if it isn't already expensive enough) bringing in new prospective businesses and more established businesses to the area where many would frequent for the game or even for leisure. Overall, the new arena will be loved by all in the community.

Prompt 1

The forge have always loved their arena despite its flaws but it has been getting older now, back when the team was part of the expansion draft the GM was a cheap ass who tried to cut corners, so they ended up using an existing arena and renovating it. There is some charm to the place, but that really comes from the creaky floors, the duct taped walls and light fixtures, and the old musty smell of the place. Now that the tax payers have ponied up and the owner/gm don't have to worry about their wallets I think the team will be excited to move into some new digs. The lowered expectations of the team because of their current arena will get them excited for new features of the new place such as: running water, locker rooms that are less than 500 feet from the rink, and a functioning toilet!
