Fantasy Scoring Changes
#1

Over the past few seasons, fantasy points have been favoring forwards more and more. Ever since the switch to FHM8, the percentage splits of the top fantasy scorers has changed but it seems as teams have become used to the new sim engine the splits have become even more exaggerated. Ideally, I'm looking to balance the top fantasy scorers by what percentage of the roster they make up, i.e. forwards making up 50% of the top scorers, defensemen making up 33.3%, and goalies making up 16.7%. Below are tables showing the percentage each category of fantasy scorers makes up of the top N players, where N is the row value on the left of each table:

As you can see, forwards have really taken off while defensemen and goalies have been falling behind. With HO's approval, I'm adjusting the existing fantasy scoring system values to reduce forward dominance, promoting defensemen and goalies, and also reducing skaters in general to boost goalies a bit more. Here's the system with marked adjustments:

Skaters:
Goals: 4 points 3.7 points
Assists: 3 points 2.7 points
Shots on Goal: 0.3 points 0.2 points
Hits: 0.4 points
Shot Blocks: 0.6 points 0.3 points for Forwards
Shot Blocks: 0.9 points 1.0 points for Defensemen

Goalies:
Wins: 5 points (W * 5)
Shutouts: 5 points (SO * 5)
Saves: 0.1 points ([SA - GA] * 0.1)

Here's the same table with the adjusted scoring system for all seasons:

The past seasons are still a bit imbalanced but it also helps illustrate the evolution of the top scorers into a more balanced system in more recent seasons. These changes will take effect immediately starting in S74. Also, a big thanks to @Keven for helping with the process.

Good to see this. Felt like it was definitely getting to the point where if you have one bad forward and their swap doesn’t make it up, you’re done.

A very reasonable change, and the way you went about figuring out what would be balanced is essentially identical to what I did when I shuffled the fantasy scoring system back in the late S30s.
