I don't think it falls on the simmer team to check lines and tactics for illegal stuff. If I'm wrong and it is, they need to be held accountable for letting this go all season. I still believe this is an HO failure tho, not the simmers.

@J HO whose job is it to enforce lines and tactics rules in the J?

Look I hate to break it to you Kal but things haven't exactly taken a turn for the better since you left as the simmer.

If anything it's the opposite where it's codified to have a seperate tier of punishment for doing it half the season. There shouldn't be a case where someone is able to do this the majority of the season

yeah it’s bad on me for not catching it… but besides that it was pointed out once at the end of the season by a simmer but there was nothing we could do about it cause it was the last sim of the season. I agree HO should find it sooner, but realistically it’s not their job, it’s ours to double/triple check to make sure the lines are on point.

I think the point being made is that the sim team are the only ones who have the power to check this kind of thing. Since the FHM8 transition, GMs don't have the ability to check other teams' unit/player tactics, so it's a matter of either asking HO to send a file worker to audit it on a regular basis, or ask the sim team to check while they're already in the file running the sim. I don't think a full team by team audit every sim is reasonable, but checking randomly 2-3 times during the season would be a change I'd support.

Yeah I'm not saying we need a full audit every sim, that'd be unrealistic, but I'd say something like first sim of the season to catch any preseason accidents, TDL and beginning of the playoffs + like one spot check on a different/random day every week to make sure people arent' just making sure they're compliant on those set dates and cheating in between.

Whether GMs have the power to do it or not, it shouldn't fall on them to check and report other teams out. HO has been adamant (and rightly so) that GMs having any sort of power towards punishing one another is a bad thing. At least it was this way before and while I was in HO and I don't see any reason why this should change.

If the simmers are the only ones who could actually check these things right now, it's HO's job to either communicate properly with the simmer department that this is something their team needs to do, take it upon themselves and get the required file access, or create a new job of "Lines Auditor" or something and entrust that role with the file access.

The fact that HO hasn't addressed what they intend to do to prevent stuff like that from happening again in the future or even apologized in the OP here for letting this happen for a whole season is very concerning to me. I'm assuming they made some sort of apologies in GM chat, but that's behind closed doors. I would rather see a team in HO who wants to find solutions to actively prevent rules being broken than one who establishes various punishments depending on how long it took before it comes to their attention that a rule has been broken.

To check their own lines and tactics? I don't see how that'd help if some teams already submitted illegal tactics with their initial GM Tasks

Midseason GM task to check your lines wouldn't really enforce accountability imo, ofc you can see you are using tactic by mistake or something, but 50% of the gms won't report themselves for having done it by mistake. It need to be done by HO/Simmer/Fileworker/Audit team or whoever we wanna put in power to do it to check randomly so as just said, it cant be abused by just being compliant on specific days. IMO, idk if I'm the only one, but its part of the responsibility of head office to check this, if there's rules, they should be enforced one way or another. it's the same for budget, it blow my mind some budget error are caught only at the end of the season by other people, what's even the point to do it/respect the rules if they aren't enforced.
