I would very much like it if the playoff format changed. While it could change this season, I've only played Atlanta in the first round every season we've made it since S66 I believe. I would like things to mix up, please and thank you. In a season like this where one division is a blood bath, non-divisional first round series could go a long way to balancing things out a bit more.
Thank you karey, OrbitingDeath Ragnar, and sköldpaddor for sigs!
I think the NHL needs its own thunder dome. Think of the epicness of pitting Player v Player, or Coach v Ref, outspoken GM v overly opinionated media guy. The possibilities are truly endless and awesome.
I would love to see a combine of some sort for smjhl prospects. Get them to do different activities in a PT format for some extra TPE, have a mad house media session, or write about their experiences talking with GMs.
Personally, I love the divisional rivalries that come with the current playoff format, and I wouldn't change it for the world. Spending the season building tension toward the rival you know will be your gate to a cup run has been the biggest source of excitement and heartbreak in most seasons I've played, and it's one area where I think the SHL significantly outdoes the J.
I'll also second the posts I've seen about media days/interviews all over this thread. If anyone ever wants another voice on a podcast or someone to bounce questions off of, let me know!
I think we should have more media reporting on player availability - who is going to be a FA, or any big trade targets to watch out for. I think everyone loves a big trade and they seem few and far in between.
I know why it's done this way and I understand most people would be against it, but I still think it would be cool if injuries were a thing. I just kinda like the idea that maybe you'd need to call up a player from juniors for a stretch while someone is injured.

I honestly don't think there is too much we can do to make ourselves more unique. We've currently gotten ourselves to a decent NHL like game. Though if I was to ask for anything, it'd be a bit more variability in how players act so that roles that aren't scoring ones can make a greater impact on the game.

Might get a lot of hate, but one thing NHL has that SHL lacks are injuries. Injuries are part of life and could possibly implemented in SHL. Doesn't need to happen often but it can happen once in a blue moon or something like that. THe player is still allowed to train and earn tpe but cannot play games in SHL
I think the playoffs could definitely do with a tweak, the nature of the SHL means we have teams in their windows at the same time and we end up with the same match ups every season. This is far from the only league with this issue, seems to be a thing across sim leagues.
While no one likes to be injured I think it would bring an interesting aspect to the SHL if players were able to be hurt. It would add importance to physical traits and then add a bit of “randomness” to stats, ie a star player gets injured and so someone else on the team is able to step up and make an impact.
I think the National Hockey League and the Simulation Hockey League are fine the way they are currently. They do not need to copy one another at all. It's important that they are different in their own way.
Long awaited of course is the introduction of play by play commentary. It is something that has been at the core of real life hockey since the age of Radio.
Now there is tons of challenges in the how tos of making it work for streams, schedules, and more. However it is an endearing part of the sport that would take the SHL to new heights.
Another thing I wish to bring up is the ability to have different lines run different systems. Something we got away from as there was too much work required in figuring out lines, however it would allow for teams to have differing Identities as well as allow GMs and Coaches to make better use of every player's builds.
this is a hard question to answer as they way it works in real life will always only be so comparable to a video game, as far as base systems like conferences and divisions/trade deadline/ playoff format i believe these are all fine, the fixes would be for more finer tuned things like making having actives more enticing which HO seems to be already working on so i am happy with the current state though i haven't been here long
I think my small complaints about the SHL all really have to do with FHM, I wish it were more like the NHL in terms of what we could do on the ice, like you could actually make a physical defensive player without falling into the SHL meta. I do feel like with only global tactics you cant really make you're player what you want them to be.,
