S77 mPT #4: Well Inspired Due: Sunday, July 7th @ 11:59 PM PST

There is one thing neither league does that I would love to see attempted I'm not 100% sure how well it would work. I would love to see the Gold plan put into place, I don't know who is familiar with the Gold plan but once you are eliminated from playoffs every point you earn goes towards your Gold plan standings. The team with the most points gets 1st overall and so on, which means the team eliminated first, has the longest time to earn the most points, and rewards not just cashing it in or selling the farm at the end and staying competitive.

One thing I like better in the SHL over the NHL, is the number of regular season games. Don't get me wrong, I don't mind having an 82 game season, but a condensed season might help make the playoffs a little more exciting, with the teams being a little more energized coming into the final stretch.

I'd like to see a promotion/relegation system like they have in the Swedish hockey league. Rebuilds would take on a whole new meaning and approach, free agency becomes insane, getting relegated becomes devastating.

I think we should add injuries to the sim. He would add a little bit of drama to the season and it would be really entertaining! I just hope Shoyo dont get injured !

i think it would be fun if the shl moved to the pwhl's system for lottery odds where your odds are based off the number of games you win after being eliminated from playoff contention. i could see the tanking meta changing from tanking via low TPE players to tanking via bad tactics in the first part of the season which is maybe an improvement? at least locker rooms wont be incentivized to be empty anymore do you agree @micool132

I entirely understand why there are no injuries in the SHL (or, from what I can tell, in any other sim league). It would deeply blow if my character was out for the season or something. However, it would be fascinating to view such a system in a vacuum and see what sorts of changes result in hockey operations among the clubs. Would players seen as injury-prone receive less lucrative offers? Would the trade deadline be more active to account for potential injuries? Could there be a Golden Knights of the SHL to abuse LTIR for cap circumvention?

I like how the SHL handles how teams win the first overall pick, which is after the trade deadline the team with the most wins starting when they are eliminated from playoffs will win the first overall pick.

I think there should be a look at free agency, I know that it's more of a player issue but it would make the offseason a little more interesting

I know the league is limited by how many active players there are when it comes to Divisions and parity or what not but I’d very much enjoy something more set in stone. If the league could balance both I think it would be an improvement but also fully understand why it is the current set up as well

I appreciate the lack of traditional fan bases. Kind of inspired by Puovi's first post in thread cause the whole thought of repeated playoff series against the same teams being good (outside of the logistic side) is the build up of rivalries and the real hate being built between the players but also leads to weird vitriol between fans. So despite the playoff format I'm glad there's not insane amounts of hate (that I would notice, at least) coming from the format the same way the NHL would have the impact. Tho im sure it would lead to better media, cause everyone knows no one makes better content than emotionally invested fans.

I think a couple of people have already said it, but injuries would be a cool thing to see implemented. Not for any particular reason, but just because it would be really funny to miss a season or something due to some season ending injury during pre-season, for example.

With the changes to the draft lottery system in the SHL I'm hoping to also see the NHL make this change with the PWHL being the pioneers. I'd love to care about late season games for eliminated teams rather than watching for losses to help the lottery odds.

One thing that real leagues do that should be implemented here is the use of advanced analytics.  In real life, teams use many additional advanced statistics to evaluate players, and some are here, but more would be awesome.  If there were some way to edit attributes to affect some of these more hidden stats, that could make for a great, and more interesting, build.

I think that one of the best things that the SHL could add is the PWHL points scoring system. Where you get three points for a win, two points for an overtime win, one point for an overtime loss, and no points for a regulation loss. By adding more points, it allows teams that win out right in regulation the ability to gain more points, and thus be higher on standings.

The SHL did this for awhile and it has went in waves during previous seasons. But it would nice to have some dedicated league media back like the SHN or BHN that would have weekly updates about the league and the teams in it.
