Alright, I guess it’s time I actually verbalize some of the things that I have to say regarding the SMJHL draft.

First: I’m open to going anywhere. My only real hope (honestly, like hard requirement. I won’t not earn if you took me without drafting a true rookie, but I’m gonna have a real hard time wanting to fit in a place that would ignore my goals) would be that any team in the SMJHL would take a true rookie before they take me. This league is all about the newest users, and I want them to get all of the hype in the world before I get any of the hype. So rookies, don’t place me in the first pick that any team has. I’m hopefully not going to go to those spots. (Honestly, in a perfect world, every rookie gets drafted before me, but I know that’s not realistic!)

Second: I don’t want anyone to give me any hints, indications, or really anything about whether or not they’ll take me.

I have never had a draft that was a surprise. My first ISFL draft was spoiled by the GM DMing me because I had changed my name, my first DSFL draft was leaked to me by like a million people, my second ISFL draft I had requested to go back to my team, so I was very certain of what was going to happen. Not to mention, well, people told me. My first J draft I knew Nevada wanted me at 2, and I knew Manhattan was taking me at 1 in the SHL draft.

I don’t want to know any of that in the coming draft. I want actual surprise for myself on draft night, not knowing when I’ll be taken or by whom. While yeah, I’ll have a sneak behind the curtain and see it before the stream, it’ll still hopefully be a surprise for me. So don’t tell me, don’t hint to me, don’t go, “Well, we might trade up to get another pick to get you,” heck don’t even tell me you enjoyed our scouting conversation! I want to be as surprised as possible.

Finally: I have no final requests about playing time, lines, etc. Stick me anywhere, play me out of position, play me on the third line, all of it is good with me. Ultimately, whatever Jeremy Snugglemuffin III does is up to his GMs. Winning awards is just, ya know, whatever to me. He’s gonna be built as a super defensive-defender, but otherwise, he’ll be yours to do with as you please.

The SMJHL is a super special place to me and it’s something I hold very near and dear to my heart. While I haven’t been the commissioner for long, I have always had a soft spot for junior and developmental leagues. Being able to be in a position to help influence and try to create such an amazing time for the brand new users in the league is something that is SO important to me. Every single rookie that is currently a part of my draft class, and will eventually be a part of my draft class, you are why the SHL continues to grow and become this amazing community of humans. Some of my best friends are a part of this league, people without whom I would have lost some actual sanity by now. So I am excited to be able to share this opportunity with you all again, I’m excited for a new player and to go through this draft process again after three years. It’s definitely been a whirlwind, but I can’t wait!
