Everything is going according to plan. You are now Les Fous Furieux de Terre-Neuve-et-Labrador.

But we're coming to claim Labrador back too so enjoy it while you can

I certainly agree personally that a Team Quebec is an oddity that will take some time getting used to, but on the other hand, the prospect of people being excited and passionate of representing and cheering on Quebec, as evidenced by the support that has been shown both in these applications and the previous time we opened up applications to new nations, has me excited for what Quebec might become.

That's not to say that the other aps didn't inspire that type of confidence, as Iceland submitted a very good application as well, or last time we had open apps like these, there was a Pan-Africa Team proposed under the banner of Zimbabwe, and that got me excited as well because there was such a vision there.

I guess in the end, I love the energy and vision some people have, more than the nations they choose, and that influences the way I personally vote, but even in this one I was torn. I have but only one vote, so I can't speak for the rest of HO, but I would've been quite happy with any of the final four I think, and especially the two I supported the most.
Zambia, Zambia was the team that I had proposed.
But was willing to create a Confederation of African Nations as a compromise to represent the entire continent

As a result, IIHF HO has voted to hire @Revontulete as Federation Head of Quebec.

Independent Russia is to be demoted, and Quebec will be promoted in a process to be ironed out, yet likely resembling the format described in this post, as we look involve HO, Canada, and Quebec in a dialogue on the subject.

IF this leads to having an additional active team in the competition long term, i think the positives outweights the arguments against it which seem to resume to "but my calculator simulation hockey league integrity". If you would rather have an uncompetitive nation with few active players, can you claim to be invested in IIHF well being? Right now, without being involved in anything related to this, I can definitly see thats theres enthusiasm around this from a group of users. If you are apathetic to this, its statut quo anyway since you probably don,t care about solving the IIHF's inactive nation problem anyway in the first time, or don't have the means to.

Basically, its the same old situation where motivated and enthusiasmed users answer the call to solve an issue, then apathetic people on the sidelines decide it doesn't go a way they like but didn't act on the same opportunity that was presented to them weeks ago.

Shoutout to everyone handling crap thrown to them for taking action in this, I appreciate the work you put freely on the site.

Not gunna lie, it is a kinda odd choice imo. That said, I don’t disagree that generating interest in IIHF play one way or another and making people care about the league is better than it being boring and tuning out. Real France can teach the fake French anyway Wink

I know everyone is putting their best effort in and at the end of the day we do this for fun, so let’s just take it easy on folks Smile

Pros:
- The IIHF gets another Federation with a larger natural influx of players
- The IIHF gets another Federation with a dedicated userbase not just for the current "generation" but for the foreseeable future
- The IIHF mitigates some of the issues with having two vastly larger federations than everyone else

Cons:
- The federation is not a nation irl

At some point in the discussions within this virtual sim league where we all devote our free time to make work, the prospect of another long and healthy federation seriously outweighs any limitation set by the irl equivalent.

Btw the people you're referring to aren't apathetic to this; that's likely the opposite of the word you want to use. People are upset for a number of reasons:
1. Russia ended up receiving 2 applications to keep their federation
2. There were 8 nations already with ≥5 users that were pre-selected as optimal nations
3. Quebec isn't a nation
4. Quebec already exists as a team with the same name on the site
5. There's a trend on the site of users getting jobs based on name recognition (not even saying that happened here - I'm sure the app was great. just a trend people notice)

Users shouldn't have to apply for a job they don't want / don't have the time for just to express their opinions on a matter. Also, I spent a season in WJC HO when I returned to the league a bit over a year ago with fresh energy, ideas, and enthusiasm. It was a nightmare. My eagerness quickly and unfortunately dissipated. Everyone was constantly shitting on the WJC itself, including the IIHF who was talking about removing WJC entirely at the time. It seemed incredibly toxic to me, hence why I left and am now "watching from the sidelines."

Furthermore, nowhere did anyone say this is bad for the IIHF. It's good to have the increased interest and it helps with some of the Canada overpopulation. It just seems like this same level of "enthusiasm" could've been directed in a brand new nation, particularly one whose name doesn't already exist in the league. That's all.

Just wanted to quote this for emphasis. I keep seeing several people saying “you should have applied then” as if none of us who weren’t willing to abandon our own Feds and apply ourselves should even get to speak which is just ridiculous.

Anyway, you’re right, about all of this.

You know Quebec the province and Quebec City are two different things right?

This would be like being mad we have a New England in the SHL then mad we added Maine to the J when New England already exists because “it’s already covered”
