S79 PT #2: Person's Best Friend Due: Sunday, October 27th @ 11:59 PM PST

The Anchorage Armada decide to take on a new team pet. The pet will be called Port because he’ll  be a portly fella. He will join the team on road trips and be in the stadium around the locker room giving the players morale boosts constantly. The dog will be a Bernese mountain dog because it’ll give the players warmth and comfort during hard times and will be taken care of by the team manager. They need something to do during games so why not take care of the team dog. The dog will also make promotional tours of various events around the city of Anchorage, making sure people know about everything involved with the team and how they can support the Armada. The team will in turn sponsor various pet food companies and vice versa to help each side get more publicity. All in all this should be a great move for the team moving  forward.

Written Option 1:

The team's selected pet is a Golden Retriever named "Ace," chosen by the players. Ace will not just stay at the arena and training areas, but will also be on the bench with the team during games, providing comfort and happiness to the players. The players will take turns caring for and bonding with Ace, the team pet, by each spending a designated week responsible for his well-being. This system of rotation guarantees that each player plays a part in caring for Ace and enhances the team's unity by showing shared responsibility for the mascot. Although there won't be specific staff assigned exclusively to Ace, the team will work together to care for the pet, which will enhance teamwork, responsibility, and unity among team members. Ace's appearance is sure to increase spirits, foster a good environment, and improve the team's performance on and off the ice and also it might think it will make us more motivated.

Well we're the Panthers so I think it would be odd for the team to get a pet as a mascot and for it to be anything other than a Panther. It would travel to all our away games with us, we'd likely set it free in the other team's locker room to at the very least poop on the floor and take some bites out of equipment, but if a player or two lose a finger we certainly wouldn't be unhappy about that prior to the games. It's like a guard dog on steroids for when we're in neighbourhoods that are less safe, and it helps to just keep everyone in line. Yes, I'm sure that we could just get a small tabby cat and just call that our Panther mascot - cats are cats, right? Wrong. If you half ass your mascot acquisition, then how can you be expected to go out on the ice and full ass your way to a cup?

Imagine there was a pet komodo dragon at Calgary. Why? Just because it has dragon in the name. Since they are cold blooded creatures they tend to hang around the warmer parts of the arena like the locker rooms for example. Or some of the training facilities and more especially the places where there is food. They have a ravenous appetite and eat more often since they're in the colder environments of Calgary. They tend to eat about a full chicken everyday and no one in Calgary would be surprised if they even went after a fox. Speaking of foxes, they have a huge disdain for them for some reason. Maybe it's because Edmonton's mascot is a an arctic fox. As for when they go onto the ice where it's a lot colder, Sonja puts them in a handmade knitted wool Calgary Dragon's jersey to help them warm up. They get more passive in colder environments, but they're always there to cheer the team on!

" Maybe someones er... they don't like me but... because i'm too good, i don't know why. "

Written Option 1:

The pet for Carolina Krakens would, of course, be a squid. Its name would be Leviathan, or Levi for short. It will have an appropriately sized enclosure, and Levi will have the option to swim underneath the outdoor ice rink set up explicitly so our mascot can spend time with us while we play and practice. There will be staff dedicated to Levi to make sure they are fed and that any other needs are taken care of. However, it's important to note that squids are social creatures. So it would do no good to have one squid by themself. So there'd be even more squids than just Levi! For example, Puddles, Cyclone, Puddles, and Goliath. All possible names for Levi's shoal (a group of squid) mates. It will be seen as a good luck charm if the shoal follows you as you glide across the ice, as you have received the blessings of the descendants of the mighty Kraken.

During her time in Regina, Mary became close with a member of the front office staff for the Elk named Mia Morningstar. Well, Mary thinks they became close. It was a rather one sided friendship, to be frank. The two's paths diverged after Mary graduated up the ranks to play in Manhattan - or so they thought. Mia, however, had her sights set on the big time as well. As fortune would have it, an opportunity came up to be one of the many meandering drones that exist within the much larger front office of the Rage. It's not like she was doing anything particularly different from what she was doing in Regina, but at least she got to move to Manhattan instead of making the move to Thunder Bay when the Elk became the Walleye. However, what she does to help Mary isn't something in her job description. No, while her real title is like Deputy Scouting Person or whatever, her real most important title is Professional Mary Hollywood Friend. She doesn't even really know she does it, but her presence does brighten ol' Mar Bear's day.

Mackey the beagle is the Highlanders own dog and mascot. Mackey is a puppy currently and usually walks around the arena on his own. He follows the team around and usually after every game he goes into the locker room. Mackey is a puppy so he has to be watched over and usually the team takes turns at supervising Mackey so he doesn’t get too out of control. It isn’t uncommon to see Mackey chew and play with the pucks or player equipment. He’s notorious for running on the ice when no one is around. Mackey barks at the opposing team quite often but he’s not exactly intimidating. Mackey also has his own jersey although he has to get a new one quite often as he grows bigger. He has his own hockey stick that he walks around with in his mouth from time to time. Mackey is expected to be a motion capture dog for a video game about some sort of western.

Unfortunately barracuda aren't particularly known for their warm and cuddly nature.  And Florida's most famous local fauna is the american alligator which has a lot of similar issues.  But don't worry because Florida Man has saved the day!  No one knows exactly how they got there, but there is a local capybara population in central Florida.  The team adopted an orphaned capybara and little Barry has been an awesome addition to the team.  He's a staple roaming the halls of our practice facility during the day and he bunks with me most nights.  Apparently the nice marshy swamp I call home is also quite conducive to Barry's traditional home in South America. (I also may or may not have rolled over one night in my sleep and squished his entire family making him an orphan, but that's not the story the team was told when I brought him to practice.). Game days are too loud for him so it's really just practice that he gets to hang around.

For a team pet, Hodor got to pick the animal so he went with the kind of animal he was most familiar with being a pet, a dire wolf. Due to its large size, Hodor became the defacto caretaker as his bulk let the wolf push him around the least and Hodor's natural affinity with animals kept the wolf calmer. The team decided to name the wolf Bute, short for Retribution, since whenever it looks like Hodor is in trouble the wolf gets particularly threatening toward the opposing team. Plus, it makes a neat saying: Hodor's Retribution is swift and fearsome. Hodor likes to take him to games because they surprisingly do better when Bute is around (due to the fear struck upon nearby players). However, Hodor also love to just take him to big dog parks and have them all play around with the other dogs. Like Hodor, Bute gets along with other animals and enjoys the playtime and company.

Option 2:

Leo is an outsider, doesn’t speak English too well and moved from Latvia to Quebec to Chicago, that was 3 countries in 5 years and he also struggled a bit with feeling accepted and appreciated. Chicago hired a team psychologist to help with problems that the players could be struggling with mentally, and the first year Leo spent a lot of time with them. He moved away from his partner and all of his friends and he needed someone who could help with that mental burden. It’s helped Leo shape himself into a better person and teammate for his Chicago teammates. He also really likes the new English coach in Chicago, because he can actually just focus on English because in Quebec they are trying to teach him two different languages in French and English and he really couldn’t do it. His English has gotten a lot better with the new translator so that along with the psychologist have really helped him turn a new page in his story.

Gnabe needed a good coach to help him prep and tbe team came through big time. You see gnabe has been in a but of a slump the last few seasons, and some think this is due to his inability to drink at the same rates as he was when young. To help solve this problem the phorge hired a drinking coach to make sure gnabe is able to up his intake and get his game back to his rookie of the year production. This coach has daily check ins with gnabe tk make sure he is keeping up a good pace to start each and every day. Then he and gnabe head to the local bars at 4pm 3 hours prior to game day to get some extra fluids in. This has helped gnabe massively over the last few games and has shown immediate improvements despite the coach starting slow to this point. A great move so far for the phorge.

Staff members can certainly be some of the unsung heroes when it comes to adressing a team's management and their continued progress, much necessary to keep the team a well-oiled machine. From the physioterapits who keenly assess and adress player's needs and aptitudes while keeping muscular strain and injuries to a bare minimum, to nutritionists who can provide meaningful advice for keeping up with a high-performance lifestyle and remaining healthy and open for growth. Andrea certainly cheerishes them for their work, and are invaluable for him to perform at his highest level.

That said, while less related to his actual performance and physical development, there's an invaluable member in Andrea's entourage and day-to-day. It is no other than his administrative assistant, Laura. A person who's grown to be trusted over time, as she handles the different aspects of management and schedule that, when put together, would become a huge source of strain in Andrea's mind. From equipment managing, schedule appointment, managing contacts and potential sponsor partners, amongst other tasks. It is undeniable a huge weight is lifted off of him so that he can in turn, spend the most active and lucid hours of his days actually engaged in the more direct hockey-related aspects, without needing to put too major a sacrifice on his more personal life either.

#2. For Cade de Vries, alot of the support staff is uber important to him given his unique height and weight for his position/sport. He should be some sort of Power forward or D/OLman, but he plays hockey instead. Because of this, the equipment he has to order in normally has to have some air of specialty to it, since its not your typical male suiting up. So he has a transactional/personal tailor relationship with the head equipment manager, if it rings any bells, imagine the "Tasting scene" from John Wick 2, with special helmets, pads, and skates all to be shown for de Vries personal selection. Because of his height as well, he needs to have a good relationship with the trainers/physio as well, as his height does come with disadvantages, that makes sure that de Vries and the rest of the phsyio crew pays special attention to his body

Written Option 1: Nothing compares to the joy of coming home to a loyal companion, or so does your GM think as they come up with the idea to boost morale of the team and to get a mascot for the team with one move. So they will get a team pet (if there already isn't one), but they let players pick what it will be. So what kind of pet will it be? What will it be called? Does it just hang around the arena or training facilities or will it go into the locker or even join the team on bench (I’m pretty sure there is no rule in SHL forbidding gooses from the bench)? Who takes care of it? Will there be dedicated staff for it or will it spend a week with each player?
Since (most of) everyone on the San Francisco Pride are cat people, as one would expect when dealing with players of a cat team, we would most probably get at least one cat, probably two, just so they have someone else to hang out with when the players are on the road. We would most definitely need to restrict their roaming area to the best of our ability to the locker room, but let's face it - they will find their way to almost every room in the training center. Everyone will need to be weary that they don't fall in the cold tub (they will claw anyone and everyone in the viscinity after escaping from it), or that we don't let weights fall on their tails (once again, scratches will be coming). But I also believe that most players are used to having cats at home, so it shouldn't be an issue... at least for the players. The trainers, though, may have to work overtime just to make sure they are fed, their litter box cleaned and their claws cut every so often.

Written Option 1:

Slip McScruff is using this as an opportunity to mooch off the team to care for his own pet. His dog is now the "team dog" although he still lives with Slip. Now, he doesn't need to leave Beef Wellington at home when he has games or practice; Beef just comes to hang out in the locker room. The team sponsor his meals and his team themed dog toys. Slip even gets kick backs for the marketing materials they make of Beef chewing puck shaped plushies.

The problem is that Beef has become a bit of a celebrity, more so than Slip and Slip has scored a goal for the team! Slip has been noticing photographers hiding in the bushes outside their apartment. When he's tried to pose for the candid shots, they ignored him and focused all on Beef. After som time of Beef getting all the attention, Slip decided he had to put a stop to the arrangement. However, after doing some budgeting, he realized he couldn't afford for the team to stop paying for food and toys because he's only making a minimum salary.

At least Beef lets him ride in the limo when they pick him up for team appearances.
