Good Morning SHL,
While this is something that has been on our radar over the last couple of months and something we have been going back and forth on as to how best to address it, we today feel compelled to put our proverbial foot down and establish certain expectations with regards to how we as a community treat our simmers. Part of why we were taking some time to go public with such a statement was our inherent uncertainty as to where the line should be drawn. As with anything conduct related, it’s always going to be a challenge to properly and objectively define what is and isn’t improper conduct, and our best efforts were put forward in trying to determine this. What we can say at this stage is that, while we continue trying to figure out future steps, the rules currently in place are to be abided by, without exception. While we apply the same standard to everyone, across any department or across any team, we cannot go without highlighting the sheer amount of pressure, vitriol and rudeness that the sim team has received over the seasons, over the years. Between missed goalie swaps, missed waivers, late sim starts, the sims being too fast or too slow, the sims being live or quick-simmed, the music not being what would be preferred, we’ve seen it all. This is highlighted by the numerous departures over that same period in which this was a driving force, and that’s reached a point to where we find it unacceptable that such a core part of our entire experience is put into jeopardy for the simple fact that we as a community fail to be respectful in the most important of times. Are delays, mistakes worthy of being upset? Absolutely they are, but there will always be a way to address them politely, with inquisitive curiosity and not inquisitive berating of a user volunteering their time to make the SHL run. This is extended to anyone who has anything to do with the simming process, from the simmers themselves to the heads, to the HO members who have to intervene whenever necessary to help remediate a situation. While we find it important to maintain a standard in how we operate, which includes the sims themselves, we find it equally important to understand that there are humans behind the usernames, humans who kindly volunteer numerous hours a week to bring you sims daily, which on the backend is no small feat when you consider everything that goes into a day for us as individuals outside of the league. All we ask is that you show patience, kindness and respect for your fellow user, especially in this moment in time in which we’re deploying new sim team members and new file-related processes, which inevitably comes with some delays until we all feel comfortable with it. All this to say that ALL HO’s are committed to being rid of this once and for all. While there are no concrete solutions to be displayed, we will be relentless in upholding this standard, with renewed attention to the relations between the community and the simmers. This isn’t to say they get preferential treatment. Simmers are held responsible for their mistakes, often in the form of salary fines. We will not accept a climate of toxicity that discourages users from participating in one of the most integral parts of this league. As a final remark, it is important to reiterate that we do take this seriously, and that its the head offices' job to discipline, not the community's responsibility to dish out vigilante justice in the form of dogpiling, be it in discord spaces or on the site. As with anything, if you have any questions, all HO members are free to discuss this constructively, via all means of communication. On behalf of the SHL leadership, have a good day Finn, Jess, Frenchie, Schwarz @jason kranz sig elite / @sulovilen elite sig

The thing that annoys me the most is yea while sims are great to watch, at least for the J your making the playoffs no matter what. These reg season games are even more just for fun then they have been in the past.
Yes watching sims is a big part of the rookie experience. But if something like delayed sims without contact puts you off the league that much you should buckle up cause it's gonna happen again. That is the nature of what we do. Any competent gm should be able to handle this situation on their side in terms of keeping their team in check, even if that's saying "sims might not happen today clearly there's issues" and that's that

The problem was there was no notice of said sim delay. It's rude to just not have the sim as scheduled with no updates. Sim delays happen and we understand the complexities and support whatever time being needed to resolve them. The ask is that these delays be communicated so that GMs can communicate the delays ahead of time. Even if there is not an ETA at least people aren't sitting around at the expected sim time waiting without an idea of what's going on. Much love to the HOmies and Sim Team for all the navigation and problem solving that has to be done. Thank yous are not expressed enough for the work that goes into keeping the league functioning. That being said, we need to stop thinking this situation is league hate simmers. It's league hates lack of notice/communication.

For one, this post was not made just in reaction to last night's festivities. This is something that's been a long time coming. Secondly, no one is saying those things shouldn't be communicated. As I explained in the other thread, everyone in HO and on the sim team agreed that we would like better communication on these things. No one, at least no one who has any say in how these things are run, is arguing that we don't want that communication. The issue is that even after that point is agreed upon, people keep pressing the issue, people keep having to get their little quips in, people keep having to come in hours after the discussion has concluded and add their "WELL I JUST THINK" points to it. It's not constructive to have multiple sets of GMs coming down on a simmer for the same exact thing head office and the sim team has already discussed with them. That's the issue here. We aren't saying "shit happens, shut up and put up" we are saying that when shit happens, we, the people who run the thing, will deal with it, and we are asking for the rest of the site to trust that we are handling it and that they do not need to dish out this public flogging to make sure the simmer feels shitty enough about what they did.

This entire announcement isn't a reaction to what transpired last night and has been something we've been working on for at least a couple weeks trying to find a good way to approach it. Now, how you decide to frame the issue is entirely up to you, but on first hand accounts of way too many simmers mentioning that they quit due to getting mistreated, its absolutely not a simple ''notice/communication'' issue. However we approach it, the general climate around the simming process as a whole regardless of the individual simmers is so incredibly unhealthy in our expectations and our sense of entitlement, and I am the first to come forward in that i've failed in the past to recognize this, and needs to change. Hopefully this is a step in the right direction. @jason kranz sig elite / @sulovilen elite sig

it's important for all parts of the site to remember this is for fun. No one gets rich, when you do a job well or have in game success your nerd badge just gets a little shinier. It'd be nice if as a community we could assume the best of each other.

It's not just the GM side though. While I do understand sim team having frustrations with negative feedback, there is no reason to maliciously respond in the nature Wally did. My response was specifically to Ruggsy posting "But if something like delayed sims without contact puts you off the league that much you should buckle up cause it's gonna happen again." and I felt the need to reiterate that we understand delays will come and will understand. There is clearly a misunderstanding of why frustrations boiled over there. 12-19-2024, 12:15 PMFrenchie Wrote: However we approach it, the general climate around the simming process as a whole regardless of the individual simmers is so incredibly unhealthy in our expectations and our sense of entitlement, and I am the first to come forward in that i've failed in the past to recognize this, and needs to change. I don't want to see dedicated users piled on over things and I don't want to see GMs pushed away either because their feedback is met with attacks. Text leagues/discord communication is difficult and just invites anger to blossom with reactionary messages. I've been at fault for that far too many times and felt the need to jump in when I saw things escalating against someone close to me. It's a whole messy situation that I understand has been bubbling for more than some time and I hope to be someone who can help curb it moving forward. Appreciate y'all getting this out there.
