OPTION 1:

Excelsior

OPTION 2:

Sydney Shaw is redefining the defensive role this playoffs.  The only difference from the regular season to playoffs is a sense of urgency from the entire team.  Shaw has on her own stepped up and taken her role as power play quarterback and number 1 defender to the next level.  The proof is in the pudding as Big PP Shaw has powered the Pride's deadly powerplay.

Option 3:

I hate to say this, but I believe Tampa's team play is more likely to find success in the finals.  While containing a player like Webb or the entire Winters, Webb, Schattenaxt line is difficult, it can be done.  Don't get me wrong any line can score on SFP, but if you rely on one player or line you can be in trouble.  Team scoring assures you can't focus on one line and gives you a better chance to win.

Option 4:

Normally I would say playing in the East has bloated Tibuk's stats, but looking at the path the two teams have traveled it has been pretty close. I still believe SFP had a slightly more difficult group as a whole, which would explain Time's slightly lower numbers.  Anyway to answer your question, I do not believe Tibuk has an advantage in the finals, if anything Justin Time's career experience in big games and finals will carry him through.

Option 5:

The obvious choice is Canada, how can consider another option.  It is our National game and the fans are rabid.  They would fill an arena even if their team was not playing in the finals.  For a PR move I would love to see them play a game in Japan, Europe already has a good hockey following.  A game in Japan would be huge to expand the SHL foot print across the globe.

Option 7:

I think it is obvious who I am picking to win the Challenge Cup.  It is going to be San Francisco Pride.  The team has the experience, some of the best coaches in the league, the best forward depth, the best scoring defender, one of the best defensive defenders, a goalie who knows how to get it done, and the entire team willing a win to become back to back champions.

Tampa has a great playoffs so far.

6. Which team would your player root for in the finals and why?

There are options for both, because I know people on both teams and to be honest if you've already come this way I'd be happy for either team because they both deserve to win. I do root for Tampa, because I want their goalie Tibuk Soonika to win a cup. We've been in the same draft class and for the most part of our career have been at the top of our class (in TPE and we know it doesn't matter for goalies, but that's no the point) and I'd be really happy for him to win a cup if I can't get one. Tampa made the finals before and lost and to be honest, SFP just won a cup last season and in 76; they can let someone else win this time. I know rosters change and after winning the cup once you want it again, but it's special winning it for the first time.

7. Who you got? Who wins the Challenge Cup or Four Star Cup? Why?

To be honest I didn't even expect to predict the two teams in the finals correctly in my Season Predictions earlier, but looks like I did this season. I have to go with the one I predicted if I've come this far and I picked SFP to win. That's really the only reason.

Toronto ended up making it into the playoffs by one point while Atlanta had the best regular season since S71 Winnipeg. Yet in the playoffs Atlanta ended up losing the second round, while Toronto made it to the conference finals. Does regular season success matter in the long run if the team fumbles in the playoffs? Should teams give much importance to the regular season or focus all of their energy to playoffs once their team has secured a spot? Should the league in general regard the regular season results more highly?

It was absolutely unexpected, I agree. If you asked me, the regular season doesn't matter much. You only need to make the playoffs to get to the playoffs and then we start again from zero. Sure, perhaps the regular season matters for individual player awards and those things, but just because your team is doing well in the regular season, does not mean that they will continue playing the same way in the playoffs. The playoffs are always unpredictable. Of course your team needs a good coach, no question, but anything is possible, really. Unless you're a shitty team like Winnipeg, trying to beat SFP in the first round, forget about that. If you're one of the worst teams going into the playoffs playing the best team there's a slight difference compared to two teams from the middle of the standings playing each other, but we've seen other surprises too. I'm happy that Toronto came as far as they did, because the last time that happened was when I was on the team in S58. It sucks to lose when you've come this far, but it's fun to surprise other people - including myself I should say - who absolutely didn't expect them to go this far. It also sucks a bit for your predictions, but it shows again how unpredicable playoffs can be.

6. Which team would your player root for in the finals and why? (154 words, 3 TPE)

This is a tough question for Dieter, who hasn't given much thought to the SHL. His main focus has been on trying to win it all with the Armada, which obviously hasn't happened yet. If he had to choose, it would probably be San Francisco. Yes, they just won the cup, but his agent's agent's agent (his agent, Sebastien Regazzoni, was managed by Mitchell van der Heijden, who was in turn managed by Joseph Lombardi) played for the Pride. He was drafted by the franchise when it was still the Portland Admirals, was a part of the inaugural Pride teams in San Francisco, and ultimately chose to retire in San Francisco. These ties may be tenuous, but they're ties nonetheless (this is also a bid for whoever sfp's gm is to pls invite me to your discord as an honored alumni pls), which means his allegiance is to the west coast in this series.

7. Who you got? Who wins the Challenge Cup or Four Star Cup? Why? (100 words, +2 TPE)

I'm going to focus on the Four Star here, and it's an easy choice: Quebec. I play for Anchorage, who Quebec just beat in the conference finals for the second straight year, and I can vouch for how tough of an opponent we are. We thought we had them on the ropes when we went up 2-0, but they pushed the series to 7 and won. They're a wagon and always have been, so I don't see any reason why they won't win. We also pushed them the most in the playoffs, so it'd be small bragging rights for us.

Quote:6. Which team would your player root for in the finals and why?
It's hard to say that my player, Johnny Wagner-Svenson, would root for any team other than his own, the Tampa Bay Barracuda. It's been a long season, and the Barracuda have fought hard to make it back to the Finals after a disappointing showing last season. It's great to be back in the Finals though, and facing a team as tough as the Pride is going to be a challenge that will not soon be forgotten. In the two Regular Season matchups, San Francisco came away with both wins, 4-2 and 5-2, so it'll be up to JWS and his team to prove they can take a few games off of one of the strongest teams in SHL history. Wagner-Svenson himself had a career season, leading not only the Barracuda but most of the league in Goals (2nd), Assists (1st), Points (2nd), and Hits (3rd), and was hoping to continue this play into the post-season, but it seems that he was happy to take a step back to let his teammates shine. Hopefully, he's still able to help guide his team to a strong showing in the Championship.
