S81 PT #0: It’s All About The Hockey Due: Sunday, February 16th @ 11:59 PM PST
#46

Option 2:

Beck stays around Winnipeg all year long except for a few offseason vacations a year to somewhere warm. This is because he does have a family in Winnipeg and they all long Winnipeg the same amount as Marcel does: a lot! His wife's name is Bluey and his two sons' names are Stewie and Louie. When Beck first started out in the SHL, his family was small but over the past 20 years or so, his kids have grown up all around the Aurora organization. Stewie and Louie love going to games and all the staff at the arena know them, so they have a fun time. They hang out on the bench during warmups and all the other Aurora love messing with them and spraying them with ice. Bluey is the maternal figurehead of the organization, being there for so much longer than many of the other spouses. She enjoys taking the new hockey wives and families under her wing and creates fun family events to get the players' families involved with the team. It's a great organization that is very family friendly, one of the big reasons Beck never wants to leave Winnipeg!

Dan is always looking to improve himself as a person and as a player all at the same time. In saying that though, when your family runs a farm, when you aren't on the ice earning your keep as a hockey player you are expected to return to the homestead in the offseason and assist the family. Dan returns to the farm every offseason and puts in the offseason work doing hard labor for his family. Dan tries to incorporate different exercises into the chores he is doing. Whether that is bench pressing hay bales in the loft waiting for the next bales to come up the belt or doing arm curls with forks full of dirty straw in the cattle pens, Dan is always trying to get stronger, and quicker so that his on ice game can continue to improve. He is at the age now where it takes more effort to see the gains and he needs to change it up and continue to evolve as a player.

Written Option 2: Or maybe there are more important things in life.
Offseason is the prime time for your player to spend time with their family and other important people in their lives. Does your player have a spouse? Kids? Pets? How about parents and siblings? Other important people that are part of their daily lives? How is your players relations to them?
Introduce us to your player’s family (and/or close friends).
In years previous Oskar would likely be found in the gym or out on the training field preparing for the next season, but as he enters his 10th season he has learned that balance is equally important and he should use the little free time he has off each year to enjoy time with family and friends. Oskar comes from a long line of SHL pros. His father, Karlstraße Scholz, was an all-star defender and Challenge Cup champion with the Edmonton Blizzard and his grandfather, Nikolaus Scholz, was a hall of fame center and 2 time Challenge Cup champion with the Edmonton Blizzard. Last year, Oskar and his wife Bianca welcomed their first son in to the world and immediately the family started teasing them that he would grow up to be an SHL player just like his father, and father before him and father before him. Time will tell if that turns out to be the case, but for now Oskar isn't occupying him mind with such ideas. He's enjoying a well earned rest with his wife and baby boy back in Mannheim.

Written Option #1 (157 words):

Volta doesn’t train alone. In fact, since it’s a sport who you work as a team to win big, you need to train with your teammates, even if it’s for personal improvements. For muscular training, Volta goes with his gym bros who are packed with muscles to train with him so he can have a bigger muscular shape, without gaining some weight. In hockey, he trains with his teammates and good friends: Ho-Lee Smokes, Max Belcher, Alexandros Morgaine, Elvar Gil-Galad, Sad Ketchup and Zeus Storm to make some poweplay, 1v1s and 3v3s to keep their hockey style in touch. Because we don’t want to get rusty before the training camp and the beginning of the pre-season. Volta isn’t a guy who relaxes much during the off-season. In fact, even if it’s 2-3 weeks to relax, all the rest of the summer, he trains to get better in hockey. No bootcamps, only in the rink and the gym.

Violet works both by herself (extensively) and with a few teammates here and there - because as much as you can commit to muscle memory during exercises, ultimately your opponents and teammates are real, flexible, adaptable people who will try their best to make you lose (or win, respectively) to the best of their ability and pick up on strengths and weaknesses. Usually since she's a third-liner she tries to find time to hang out with @micool132 Nathangus McExplosion and Shoyo Hinata. It's not uncommon for her to run 3v3 exercises just to get used to passing to her linemates pretty frequently. For better or for worse, she's had very limited powerplay time (typically subbing in for a top six forward when there's a penalty against Atlanta) but does occasionally make a point of practicing with her higher-line teammates to ensure she at least knows how things work if she needs to sub in a pinch.

Most importantly, Violet hangs out with Nathangus McExplosion to help mentor him (though he is an excellent player already) and hopefully help the team as a whole flourish even from the 3rd line!

Written Option 1:

Oliver Castillon spends most of his off-season playing and training for Team France in the IIHF Tournament. That said, when the tournament is over, he'll generally stay in France for a few weeks visiting with his father's side of the family before returning to California. In that time, he'll train a little bit on ice with teammates from Team France, but most of the time is spent doing manual labor around the family vineyard. When he goes back to California, it's a couple more weeks of mainly lifting barrels and boxes and tending vines in his own vineyard in the Napa Valley before returning to training full-time with the LA regulars. It's not always the best for training his legs, but he's found that focusing on something else entirely and working his upper body has been more helpful to his game than staying locked in to hockey 24/7/365.

Written option 1

Spaceman Spiff trains like no other player in the offseason. One man, alone against the worlds. Hopping from planet to planet, fighting aliens, and surviving spaceship crashes. While most players spend their time in the gym or on the ice, Spiff blasts off and returns to the stars. He ventures into uncharted areas, mapping the stars, and spending most of the exploring the first new planet he comes across. Every planet has new obstacles and new challenges, extreme heat or cold. mountains or plains or jungle or deserts, large predators or larger aliens, Spiff has faced it all. This unorthodox training regimen helps his stamina, strength, decision making, reflexes, and more. While it's a strange choice, the training has paid off with a steady increase in points over a 4 year junior career. Spiff hopes it will help him especially this offseason as he makes the jump to the SHL. With much stronger competition he is going to need all the training he can get. Maybe he should visit two planets this offseason to be sure.

Hans has spent his offseason in Norway, single-mindedly focuses on improving his on-ice play as much as possible as if to will Vancouver to a cup run. It has been a long 2 seasons in Vancouver for Hans, filled with laughs and good times, but sorely lacking any success as a team. Hans has been given the opportunity to play for Norway in both the IIHF and WJC this off-season, and finally tasted some of the success he's been striving for, winning an IIHF gold and a WJC bronze with both Norway teams. Since the celebrations finished, however, Hans has returned to Norway to continue focusing on developing his defensive skills.

Hans has spent almost his whole off-season on the ice in Norway, avoiding his phone like the distraction that it is. He has been zoned in on making defensive improvements, even at the costs of some of the offensive flashes he showed last season. There is only one goal driving him - winning a Four Star cup with his teammates in Vancouver. Hans knows there's only two seasons left to do so, before his SMJHL eligibility is gone and he joins Seattle in the SHL. With Four Star cups on his mind and medals around his neck, Hans continues his push towards becoming the best defender in the SMJHL. Only time will tell if his efforts had the impact he's hoping for, but hope springs eternal in Vancouver.

pinli trains alone during the offseason because it improves his mental game. he sets up elaborate on ice traps like in home alone that he has to dodge around and activate in certain ways. for example he sets up a bunch of invisible trip wires that will swing paint cans at his head, and spring loaded mannquins that jump at him. there's even things like motorized windmill blades that spin around and he has to slide through them or under them or whatever without getting his skull crushed. this stuff is unorthodox but the idea is to train his fast reflexes as well as prepare his mind for the unexpected. all season he trains for standard hockey plays and that's great, but the mind must remain malleable. the more unexpected situations he can find himself in on the ice the more well rounded he'll be when the rubber hits the road. strange things can sometimes happen in SHL games and when they do-- pinli will have trained for it!!!

Written Option 2:

Easton Schaffer has always returned home to PEI in the summertime for the offseason.  Although his career commitments have increased in the past few seasons, his parents, Jack and Evelyn Schaffer, are always anxious for his return visit home.

This season is especially special for them, as their son Easton is finally headed to the big leagues.  He doesn't have a girlfriend yet, but he has been seen dating a select few girls over the seasons but cannot yet make a firm commitment in that aspect.  He has a bunch of friends that he grew up playing hockey with that always cheer him on and shower him with more support that he knows he needs.  It's always been a privilege to have such support and Easton knows not to take this kind of thing for granted.

Offseason festivities are kept to minimum as to not overwhelm anyone and to keep that intimate spirit of the family alive and relevant.  The mandatory steak cookouts and homemade meals bring Easton back to his roots and remain grounded in preparation for next season.

Edouard Lavoie got married (entirely too) young to his wife Mia Lavoie. They have played hockey together since they were both in the juniors. They were drafted to the Maine Timber together where they played together for four years, during which they both officially changed their official International Ice Hockey Federation nationality to France as they both had connections to the country. They were drafted to different SHL teams, but eventually would up together before being called up to the Atlanta Inferno where they have continues spending their career. In almost every case they have played together on the same line, and hope to do so for the rest of their careers. Edouard loves spending time with his wife and is thrilled that they both have such similar interests on and off the ice. During the offseason, they spend their time training together, going on adventures, and visiting family members that they don't get to see regularly when the season is in full swing.
