S81 PT #1: Stay a while and Listen Due: Sunday, February 23rd @ 11:59 PM PST

Option 1:
This is probably a massive important moment that needs to be reviewed. We are talking down one goal and there are two minutes left in the third. So Holl needs to create some kind of distraction that is gonna allow the coaches to get a video review done. This is actually sort of tricky because originally I figured “just got to start a fight with the other team” but that probably would cause an entirely different call anyways.

So I’ve devised a plan unlike any other plan. First, Holl is going to skate over to the players bench and have both of his blades removed from his skates. Then while the refs aren’t looking he’s going to have his team propel him to one of the corners of the ice with both of his blades. He’s gonna then toss both blades into a random spot and then make a big deal out of the fake that he obviously can’t skate anywhere. Meaning the refs are gonna have to go over and help Holl first get the skate blades and then drag him back over to his players bench.

What could possibly go wrong? At the very least him flopping like a fish around the ice would be funny.

Option 2.

Jacob Marsh invites reporters to his home during training camp prior to his final J season. He mostly discusses the upcoming season and talks about how it is his last season to truly prove that Newfoundland belongs in the conversation as one of the top SMJHL teams. It's been an impressive run that is missing one final capstone.

After discussing the upcoming season they briefly talked about goals beyond Newfoundland and what he'd like to accomplish in Philadelphia. "Just looking to get there and work my way into the lineup, once there just look to contribute any way possible. If that's a timely shot block or a drawn penalty. I'll do it all" Marsh said. "While my bread a butter is skating and my ability to shoot they puck, I know that may not be the 1st opportunity presented to me but against its doing the little things to win."

Option 1:

Her mind scrambling for some sort of idea of a distraction, Elaina Beneski skates over to the refrees, clears her throat and calls out, "Excuse me, gentlemen?" With more irritation than curiosity, the officials turn and look at her expectantly. The moment hangs in the air as the curiosity fades, but the irritation remains. Finally, desperate and coming up dry for options, she remembers something Newman told her.

"Did you ever hear the tragedy of Darth Plagueis the Wise?"

There is a momentary pause before one of the linesman starts to dismiss her saying, "Get out of here, we're trying to run a hockey game."

The head referee holds a hand up to him, though and in a Jersey accent says, "Isn't that one of those Sith legends?"

Sensing an in, Elaina plays coy, shrugging and looking to the left and then to the right before replying, "Well, it's not a story the Jedi would tell you, I can say that much." The dismissive linesman raises an eyebrow quizzically.

"Yeah," says the other referee. "Wasn't he the guy that could manipulate midichlorians to create life? What about him?"

Over their shoulders, Elaina notices her coach giving the thumbs up and replies, "Oh, nothing, I was just curious if you'd ever heard about him."

My player would achieve this by "unintentionally" hitting their skate blades off, so that the refs would need to delay the game in order for my player to go to their bench and fix the skate issue. Hopefully the refs would give us a minute or so in order to fix this said "unintentional" skate issue, buying our video coach the time needed. If that doesn't buy enough time for our video coaches, I'll go "talk" to the refs and potentially hit a rough patch in the ice and maybe trip the ref while falling... a complete "accident" would happen. Of course, I hope the ref wouldn't get injured severely by this, they would just need to get right back up and clean the snow off their pants. If the video team hasn't had enough time in order to make a call after these 2 accidents, I would just tell the coach to call a timeout to give them more time for longer, as if I do anything else it would be obvious I'm doing it on purpose to buy some time.

2:

"How would you describe the level of eagerness about the upcoming season among the players?"

̔"We're very excited," I said over the phone. My agent had called me earlier today to let me know SHL Tonight was looking at interviewing me about the upcoming season. "When we got the news we had traded for Florian Soderberg-Motyla, the whole group was ecstatic. He was a huge player for Toronto and unfortunately that mismanagement cost them a really good player. We can't wait to start the season to see what he can do with us in our top 6."

"How do you feel you're gonna handle the next season?" HFFO asked me. "Well, I think last season went alright, but I know I can play better than what I showed last season. It's a step, but I'm hoping to become a defining piece for the Montreal Patriotes as we start our journey towards a Challenge Cup."

Thanks @xjoverax for the sig!

I really think that Mary Hollywood is kind of built for this sort of thing. She seems to be a caricature of a hockey player, and an annoying one at that. I envision her sort of like my beloved Philadelphia Flyers's own Travis Konecny, but without any of the fighting or all that. She's definitely annoying, though. How does that help her in this situation? Well, in a bid to distract the referees, she would actually not do anything directly to the referees at all! Instead, she would start saying all sorts of outrageous things to the other team. You know, chatting mad shit and all that. At that point, hopefully, the other team would retaliate in kind and maybe some sort of fracas would break out. All manner of who-struck-John would ensue, and ideally it would be one of those situations where there aren't any penalties called but the refs have to come in and go "HEY HEY HEY FOLKS CALM IT DOWN." Then Mary would blow a big fat vape cloud in the other team's faces, the video coach would have enough time to look at the replay, and we could adequately make a decision regarding whatever the hell happened in the actual hockey game.

Anna Skovgaard sat down with the local Calgary reporter to talk about her summer, preparations for the season, and talked about what kind of expectations the Dragons had going into this year. Anna discussed how the goal for the season was the same as it was last year, win the cup. It wouldn't be an easy task considering how good the Pacific division looked this season, but Anna was confident the Dragons could get it done. The team had really started to gel and everyone was comfortable playing with each other as the playoffs started last season, and they were looking to build off of the good run from the young club's last postseason run. She also went in depth about her gold medal run with team Norway in the IIHF tournament over the summer, and how her and the Solberg twins looked to carry that experience into the season and how it would hopefully help them overcome any nerves once the games got real important in the spring.

prompt 2:

My player talks about how this season is going to be another stepping stone season towards Winnipeg's eventual going for a cup timeline. Still this season should be different because we should be much better than last season which will be a recurring theme going forward. With more consistent growth and acquisitions, the aurora are poised to be in a great position despite the looming expansion. Of course my player would also talk about expansion and the uncertainty that is to come with players being protected and some inevitably lost in the process. Regardless there is sure to eb a lot fo fun no matter what does happen in the expansion draft. My player would then be sure to film a series of tiktoks while on the news in order to bolster their social media presence. Between cringe on the street interviews and well rehearsed dancing segments there is plants of fame to be had when it comes to interviews and their tiktok crossovers.

The coach gave me an important mission and that was stall for time by any means necessary. And so I think to my good friend River who plays like the most violent asshole on the ice ever but off the ice a great person. I love playing with him on the ice *when he is not suspended.* So thinking about what he would do I go over to the backup goalie and steal their blocker yes slightly rude but I apologize later I throw off my right glove and put on the blocker and I do what I call the reverse hand shake line. I go right next to the other teams bench at a decent speed like im doing the fist bumps and begin swinging the blocker and hitting the other team on the bench obviously they begin to chase me so I run around the ice then run to the locker room where I see River and then I get a thumbs up from him.

Written Option 1:
In this situation, Marian might tactically converse with the referees, gently postponing their decision-making process. By talking about an earlier play or questioning a call in a friendly and non-aggressive way, Marian can successfully extend the time Coach Eddie needs to review the disputed goal. This approach gives coach Eddie the required time to determine if they should challenge the goal.

Moreover, Marian might generate a slight disturbance on the ice, drawing the referees' attention in a manner that seems unintentional or harmless. This distraction method could occur within the limits of fair play, like inadvertently obstructing a referee, leading to a small interruption that requires a short pause in the game. By causing a brief interruption, Marian provides Coach Eddie extra time to make an informed choice about the possible offside goal.

In the end, Marian's aim is not to trick or influence the referees but to create an opportunity for the coaching staff to assess the footage and decide on the most effective strategy. By utilizing these strategies in a discreet and sportsmanlike way, Marian  can effectively postpone the referees for Coach Eddie to reach a well-informed choice on contesting the goal

Written Option 1: The French are known for their dramatics, their ability to be distracting with a simple, elegant but very mich unnecessary set of flairs and movements to throw people off. That's why the Edmonton Blizzard coach had selected Gwendolyn Telenn for the job of distracting the zebras before they could make a decision.

"He was offside! Clearly! There's no doubt about it in my mind!" She exclaimed to the refs, using her hands to motion to the blue line and then continuing to show with charades how the play then continued. It was one of those really long offside calls. Those where play continued for a solid 30s before the goal was scored. It only made it even more embarrassing that the video coach was asleep on the job since he had ample time to review it.

Continuing her anger streak, the refs eventually calmed Gwendolyn down by saying that they'd give her a penalty if she continued. She pushed it just a few seconds more before her linemate and captain Alexa came by to 'calm her down' meaning that the distraction had been successful. Edmonton challenged the play and managed to get the Calgary goal overturned, which would swing the game's momentum in their favor.

Though Gwendolyn dodged penalty trouble early on there by having the A on her chest, she would unfortunately later get called for a couple of minor penalties as the bloodbath that is the Battle of Alberta continued on this faithful day.

Option 1: Ryan has just the ploy to cause a distraction that could serve the team in finding time. He waits until all the refs are out of the way, then dislodges the net from its mooring hole, and using his blade, digs enough of a hole to the side of the net to create a divot, which could be a problem if the net comes off again. Then, Ryan skates out, making a fuss that the hole keeping the mooring is too big. The refs take a look, and call out the ice repair crew to be sure it gets back to the right size. Ryan then takes his sweet time heading to the bench, letting the equipment manager check his skate, all while grinning at the ridiculous of the kind of convert mission he’s being asked to partake in to get the team the best chance it gets to win.

Written Option 1:

Walbilly Koala slides right up in front of the referees, and he asks them if they have ever seen the reality show “Apex Predator.” Apex Predator is a reality show featuring awakened (able to talk and think more critically) contestants competing against each other to win one million dollars. He would begin to talk about his experience as a guest host on Apex Predator, which his career in the SHL allowed him to do. He was previously even asked to be a contestant before. While talking to the refs, he would perform elaborate gestures with all of his little koala limbs, making sure he never lost their attention.

He’d talk about all the types of challenges and brutal social games that occurred while he was a guest judge- like a puzzle that changes its appearance when looking at it from a different angle or how a gerbil was able to learn the title of Apex Predator through their shrewd social game. This is enough to distract the referees long enough. (170 words)
