Blade Hunter spends a lot of time on the road, but there’s one city he always looks forward to and that's New York. There’s just something about the energy of the place that clicks with him. The city never slows down, kinda like the game itself. When the team has extra time there, he makes sure to take advantage of it. First stop? A good steakhouse. Blade’s all about fuelin’ up before a big game, and New York’s got some of the best. After that, he just soaks in the city and takes a walk through Times Square, just people watching and of course on the lookout for muthafricken androids, man. He ain’t much for the touristy stuff, but he respects the grind of a city that never sleeps. If there’s more time, he checks out Madison Square Garden, just to take in the history of the place. It’s one of those arenas where you can feel the legacy in the air. Blade likes how New York keeps him on his feet. The city’s fast, unpredictable, and relentless... just like his playstyle baby.
While I do think name flow is important, tying it into the history of the city is the most important thing to me. While alliteration is always nice, the main thing I look for is that it ties into the heritage of the city or even state. I think both the SHL and the J both have good examples of this. The Buffalo Stampede is a pretty on the nose example based on the city name but it works well in my opinion. I love the idea of the Patriotes and the ties to Quebec sovereignty. I like the Syndicate tying into the mob history of Chicago. The Scarecrows are kind of a tongue in cheek nod to the farmland around St. Louis. And the Tidal referencing the beaches of San Diego. For me city names don’t have to go too in depth with tying in to history, but I like when teams associate with the city they’re in.

Oh this one is definitely easy, it has to be Montreal. We don’t get to play Montreal often, and even rarer that we do in Montreal, but that has to be my favorite place to visit. Obviously the city is beautiful and there’s lots to do, but being from there makes it more meaningful. I get to take some time to see some family and friends, they can come to the games and it’s just a great place to truly unwind and forget about the day to day for a little bit.
Outside of visiting friends and family it is also a fantastic place to get great food. No matter what me or the team are in the mood for, it’s got fantastic food spots all over the city. And of course, if I have some extra time, I’ll always pop in to have a fresh home cooked meal. There’s nothing anyone can make that will top the feeling of eating at home.

Too young for this shit
dieter frühstück's favorite place to visit on the road is the home of his team's biggest rival, vancouver. a lot of the smjhl cities are pretty boring and static (looking at you, thunder bay), but vancouver isn't that. it's a city known for being the production place of many hollywood blockbusters, and you can really see that there. there's a lot of hustle and bustle going on, which dieter prefers (he was born in a city, so he's always been accustomed to the city life). it's also just a beautiful city. it's easy to walk around, the landscape is beautiful, and the whole island setting really appeals to frühstück as well. a big thing that also goes in the city's favor is the closeness to anchorage. most cities have a couple hours to jump ahead in, but vancouver isn't like that - it makes it easier to play in.
Given his unique background of general isolationism up until he was an adolescent, Matthias gets a kick out of nearly every place he visits - Sam Diego, Edmonton, Saint Louis, Montréal, Quebec City, Winnipeg, New England, New Orleans - he has friends everywhere, and nothing is dull for him. Food, language, architecture, history, culture, films, idioms, roads, customs - he’s got a real thirst for all of it, and that’s gotten him into trouble on more than one occasion.
Whether that’s swimming in public fountains, joining boxing tournaments without registration, or just climbing really tall buildings for the fun of it, Matthias’ agents must be miracle-workers to keep him from getting blacklisted from any of the cities on the SHL circuit. He could certainly do worse - and while he does have a soft spot for his home, a life on the road, right along with his friends, suits him just fine
Written Option 2: I think a good expansion brand shows not only relevance to the location but to hockey as well. It's also important that the name rolls off the tongue, (yeah I'm looking at you Utah 'Outlaws' YUCK) and sounds fitting. To me, I think @sve7en did a real good job of that in the photo posted in the hiring post. The colours fit, the name fits, it's a real solid and well thought out team idea. I'd love to also see some more east coast love and send a team to Halifax. I'm far from creative enough to come up with a good team design but Halifax and Nova Scotia as a whole have so many ties to hockey, with the mooseheads being one of the most recognizable Q teams, not to mention 2 guys that i dont know if you've heard of but Sidney Crosby and Nathan MacKinnon. I wouldn't even mind seeing a team in Cole Harbour just for those guys.
Anchor: The SHL officially announced an upcoming expansion, and locations are already putting their hat into the ring to try and be the next franchise team. Our sports reporter has the story,
Reporter: Along the beaches of the North Carolina coast, sits a beatiful lighthouse and a symbol that the family of Calgary Dragons player Jeffrey Bjelland has pushed the SHL with an idea to expand. We spoke with him.
Bjelland: Our idea of the Oak Island Wickies, started small, but with so many lighthouses on the coast we thought it was a great idea to focus on the group of people that light the shores for all the boats on the ocean to see.
Reporter: They said they would be willing to build an entire new arena as well as many hotels and resorts to increase tourism if the league decides to go with that location.
Anchor: While no team name or location has officially been selected yet, it's certainly interesting to see the places around the world big and small that are campaigning for a team.
I'm going to bring up the fact I have a PT pass but am writing this PT because I feel passionate about this. Yes, if you can have a good connection to your city that is a good hockey team name that's the ideal scenario but forcing your team name to be something bland or boring or even ignoring a location because you can't find an "apt" team name that fits the history and culture of your location is more egregious than ignoring the local history. You want to be able to build from the local culture and have an instant rapport with the brand but more important is that you want it to stick around past the initial introduction and be palatable country wide or even globally. Forcing local connections can be short sighted and end up costing national or global fans and will also just have players not have a good first impression of your team. That's why I am always a proponent of do something you think is legitimately cool and you personally are passionate about and let the rest follow suit later. (word count says 190 but if it's not then PT Pass)
“The Wheel of Time turns, and Ages come and pass, leaving memories that become legend. Legend fades to myth, and even myth is long forgotten when the Age that gave it birth comes again. ... There are neither beginnings nor endings to the Wheel of Time. But it was a beginning.”
In terms of places to visit, Ju-gong would have a few places that he most likes spending time in. Manhattan is an easy answer, not only does it have a favorite former teammate to visit with in Celeste Desjardins, but downtown Manhattan also has a lively little Koreatown in which they can easily enjoy some drinks and authentic food. Given the short travel time, its probably his number 1 road-game destination. By similar notions, Calgary is a nice place to visit, just for spending time with the Solberg sisters. Additionally, Chicago and Winnipeg are relatively short trips to meet up with Roze and Tymer. Aside from former J teammates, Los Angeles and San Francisco are neat places to go just for their own Korean districts in which he can enjoy some rare (for North America) delicacies. Toronto is a reasonable place to go as well, given it’s the shortest of all the trips, and certainly has one or two restaurants worth stopping by!
Except a good and catchy location and name a good logo is pretty much just as important. Imagine Detoit Red Wings without a wheel and the red wing, or the Tampa bay lightning without the lightning. Or the best one, atleast in my opinion, San Jose Sharks. Not team vise or success vise but in brand making they have done it good.
My top 10 best Citys and team names with what their logo should be is as follows (not in ranking order):
1. Wichita witches, A green old mean witch with a vart and. black hat.
2. Amarillo Armadillos, An Armadillo with a killer face.
3. Albuquerque Aliens, A green and classic looking Alien it could also be cool if an UFO is present Somewhere.
4. Fresno Flamingos, A pink flaming o Standing on one leg that of course is a hockey stick.
5. Springfield Sasquaches, it may be unseen but a sasquach is not impossible to draw.
6. Chattanooga Choo-Choos, what else to say but, A train, how can anything be more hockey than a train.
7. Honolulu Hellcats, pretty much your classic cat.
8. Brandon Beavers, Nothing more than hockey thats attract beavers.
9. Lubbock Llamas, Everybody likes the animal that spits.
10. Denver Dung Beatles, there must be a team for the players that smells a little worse. And dung beatles are kind of cool.
If i got to make a top 3 it would probably be Fresno Flamingos, Chattanooga Choo-Choos and Brandon Beavers.
Because if you cant sell merch with those team names you dont deserves anything.
