I never said commercial success is the end all be all. I said Drake is BOTH critically and commercially more successful, which covers all the bases for what makes one better.

Try assessing my argument in terms of the whole picture.
But that's not correct. Commercial and Critical success means literally nothing in the world today. The Carter III got a fucking 84 on Metacritic, and sold 3.6 Million despite being terrible. All Commercial success means is people listen to shit. And all Critical success means is you're a very high profile name who's name is mentioned all the time.

You're not going to hear Childish Gambino in every day talk, Drake you will. So obviously he's going to get more buzz, and it's not because Drake is better, it's because of the marketing. Doesn't make him a better rapper at all

I did. I listened to it a few weeks back. I didn't have any comments since I only rated it, but here ya go, tough guy:

Outside: 3.5/5
Fire Fly: 3/5
Bonfire: 3/5
All the Shine: 4/5
Heartbeat: 4.25/5
Backpackers: 3.25/5
L.E.S.: 3.25/5
Hold You Down: 4/5
Kids (Keep Up): 4/5
You See Me: 3.75/5
Sunrise: 3.5/5
That Power: 3.75/5

3.6/5

There were some tracks I liked, but overall, it wasn't overly exhilirating.

For comparison, here's my take on Drake's debut Thank Me Later:

Fireworks (ft. Alicia Keys): 4/5
Karaoke: 3.5/5
The Resistance: 4/5
Over: 3.25/5
Show Me a Good Time: 3/5
Up All Night (ft. Nicki Minaj): 3.75/5
Fancy (ft. T.I. & Swizz Beatz): 3.25/5
Shut It Down (ft. The-Dream): 3.75/5
Unforgettable (ft. Young Jeezy): 4/5
Light Up (ft. Jay-Z): 4/5
Miss Me (ft. Lil Wayne): 3.5/5
Cece's Interlude: 3.75/5
Find Your Love: 4.25/5
Thank Me Now: 3.75/5

3.7/5

Not overly different. As you can see, I'm not a huge fan of either.
Meh, different tastes clearly since the ones you have rated high I have rated lower and ones you have rated lower I have higher up

Umm Carter III was a top notch album. It seems to me that you base all of your arguments on personal opinion. Gambino is a one trick pony (punch line rapper) while drake has a wide array of songs he can do. And being in everyday talks mean nothing to critical success. For example, The Knife dropped an album called shaking the habitual which i will assume you have never heard and no one on the radio talks about. That album got an 86 on metacritic signifying that it has nothing to do with marketing or being a high profile name that is mentioned all the time.

If you want more artists that disprove your theory I will gladly give you some right now:

Jessie Wares Devotion - 85%
Shabazz Palaces The Black Up - 83%
Kurt Vile's Walkin on a Pretty Daze - 82%
Daughter If You Leave - 72%

I'm saying the score is inflated due to being an everyday name.

This is true. Gambino is a rapper and Drake is a musician. Doesn't really mean either is better though.

I'm sorry but there's no way in hell there should only be 3 points separating these. One's a classic the other is forgettable

Did you read what I wrote? I just gave five names who have a good score that aren't everyday names. NAME MEANS NOTHING.

Again all of your rationale is based on emotion.

I'm not saying people that it's impossible for people to NOT get good scores if they're not household names.

I'm saying you're more likely to get a inflated score if you ARE a household name. That's what I'm saying

I'm just saying one thing: Gambino is also a comedian and actor, if other rappers aren't better than him, I feel somewhat bad for those rappers. Gambino does what he can, but it's difficult when you're doing so much stuff.

But like I said, I like Gambino and Drake, and am completely impartial to this argument. So continue gentlemen, as I don't mind what you have to say. Enjoy your music how you like it.

An old man's dream ended. A young man's vision of the future opened wide. Young men have visions, old men have dreams. But the place for old men to dream is beside the fire.
