He's one of the most versatile players I've seen. ![]() Registered S8, S9, S14, S20, S21 Challenge Cup Champion Quote:Originally posted by Taylor@May 17 2013, 10:48 AM Don't take it the wrong way, but not even taking into account game 7, I don't think Reimer is the solution in goalie YET. He is only an average starter. He has a lot to work on, that being said he's young but you never know how goalies will develop. He could develop like Raycroft and Mason, or he could develop like Rask or Price who took similar routes as him. ![]() Registered Posting Freak Quote:Originally posted by NathanAD@May 17 2013, 10:58 AM He was a top 6 goalie this season if you take all goaltending stats into account. He's the third or fourth youngest starter in the league. Nothing about game 7 was his fault at all. He's far from average. If he can stay healthy he'll be a great goaltender for years to come ![]() Registered Posting Freak

Anderson Bobrovsky Rask Schneider Lundqvist Crawford Howard Were all better off the top of my head, stats wise. You can argue Fasth and Emery too, but I'm not sure they played enough. ![]() Registered S11 Challenge Cup Champion
I love Reimer, but Leafs fans are jumping the gun a bit.
![]() Net-minding is a position that requires consistency over years, he has the potential to be great, he also could have gotten hot at the right time. We won't know for a couple years for sure. And really, unless your team is the Rangers or the Kings(and sometimes the Preds), then your team can use an upgrade in net ![]() ![]() Registered S8, S9, S14, S20, S21 Challenge Cup Champion
Anyway if I was Toronto, I sign Emery or Smith to a contract. It gives Reimer some healthy competition. Worst case scenario you have a great backup for the year, best case scenario they play lights out for the Leafs.
![]() Registered Posting Freak Quote:Originally posted by NathanAD@May 17 2013, 11:15 AM Anderson played like 20 games. Luongo even less lol. I'm talking about a total ranking (GP, Win/Loss, GA, SV%, SO, etc.). Like, if you lead a category you get 5 points, top 3 you get 3 points, top 5 1 point, etc. all of that. He was top 5 or 6. You also have to consider quality of team. Emery, Fasth, Schneider, Luongo, Crawford, and Rask all have undisputed better defense/teams. ![]() Registered S8, S9, S14, S20, S21 Challenge Cup Champion Quote:Originally posted by Wheelz@May 17 2013, 11:22 AM A few things. Anderson was ridiculously good so I included him. I didn't even mention Luongo. I don't see how leading in GP or Wins should earn you 5 points, as they are both pretty much as useful as looking at +/- for players. He wasn't top 6, he was top 10 for sure in half a season, what's wrong with that? ![]() Registered Posting Freak Quote:Originally posted by NathanAD@May 17 2013, 11:24 AM Sorry, read Lundqvist as luongo for whatever reason. He was top 6. I also can't remember if it was win/loss ratio. Something like that. I don't even think GP was one of the things. It was just a requirement to qualify I'm pretty sure. Whatever, I just remember seeing those rankings like a month ago. ![]() Registered Posting Freak Quote:Originally posted by NathanAD@May 17 2013, 10:58 AMI'm sorry what? The guy mad ridiculous save after ridiculous save. Put up good numbers against a great team. He also had a great season yet you still don't consider him the solution? What do you people want from him. Obviously he is young and still has to work hard but there is no one available that would be near an upgrade. The fact that you mentioned getting Smith to play well Reimer was backup made me laugh. Smith is an average goalie who had one really impressive year. ![]() Registered S8, S9, S14, S20, S21 Challenge Cup Champion Quote:Originally posted by Taylor@May 17 2013, 12:13 PM He has things to work on is what I said. Rebound control, the fact he has trouble catching 50% of the shots that are in the glove. And the point that you make about Smith is funny. Smith plays a great FULL SEASON, Reimer has never played good in a stretch of more than 40/50 games, yet he's better already? ![]() Registered Merica's Lover Quote:Originally posted by Taylor@May 17 2013, 12:13 PMWhat I'd like from him is to prove he can do that in a full 82 game season, as far as I'm concerned this half season proved nothing to anyone it is a fluke all around. Reimer has proved absolutely nothing other than he can make a few flashy saves occasionally. He still hasn't proved he can be a legitimate starter in a full 82 game season at all ![]() Registered Merica's Lover Quote:Originally posted by NathanAD@May 17 2013, 12:29 PMShit even the leafs fans in here said Reimer has the worst glove in the Nhl lol ![]() Registered Posting Freak Quote:Originally posted by NathanAD@May 17 2013, 12:29 PM No doubt he has things to work on, I'm not disagreeing. You are exaggerating a little on glove thing but he does need to work on it. Smith with 34+ Games 08/09: 41GP 2.62GA .916% 14-18-9 09/10: 42GP 3.09GA .900% 13-18-7 11/12: 67GP 2.21GA .930% 38-18-10 12/13: 34GP 2.58GA .910% 15-12-5 Reimer with #33+ Games 10/11: 37GP 2.60GA .921% 20-10-5 11/12: 34GP 3.10GA .900% 14-14-4 12/13: 33GP 2.46GA .924% 19-8-5 Smith has only played 40/50 game seasons 3 times in his 8 NHL seasons. You're going to tell me the difference of 4-7 games is going to change Reimer's stats enough to make them worse then Smith's? Of course this is excluding Smith's amazing season. |
