No doubt he has things to work on, I'm not disagreeing. You are exaggerating a little on glove thing but he does need to work on it.
Smith with 34+ Games
08/09: 41GP 2.62GA .916% 14-18-9
09/10: 42GP 3.09GA .900% 13-18-7
11/12: 67GP 2.21GA .930% 38-18-10
12/13: 34GP 2.58GA .910% 15-12-5
Reimer with #33+ Games
10/11: 37GP 2.60GA .921% 20-10-5
11/12: 34GP 3.10GA .900% 14-14-4
12/13: 33GP 2.46GA .924% 19-8-5
Smith has only played 40/50 game seasons 3 times in his 8 NHL seasons. You're going to tell me the difference of 4-7 games is going to change Reimer's stats enough to make them worse then Smith's? Of course this is excluding Smith's amazing season.
Smith was a backup until he got to Phoenix and Bryz left. So his numbers are severely skewed. And the numbers are not that far off considering the biggest differential is .14 in favor of Reimer and a .30 in favor of Smith. You're severely underrating Smith here.

Don't take it the wrong way, but not even taking into account game 7, I don't think Reimer is the solution in goalie YET. He is only an average starter. He has a lot to work on, that being said he's young but you never know how goalies will develop. He could develop like Raycroft and Mason, or he could develop like Rask or Price who took similar routes as him.
He set a leafs record for save percentage this season... He started off really well 3 years ago, then struggled because of his concussion/groin issues but he seems to be getting better. Of course, injuries is something you have to watch for but his play has been very good.

He only played 33 games though. He has the potential, but I want to see him play a full season as starter.

His play has been very good but regardless he has never played a full 82 and that's really the determining factor of a starting goaltender. If he can't play a full 82 he's not worth a damn in the NHL. I'd rather have a goalie who puts up .900 numbers and plays 82 than a goalie who puts up .950 and plays 41. Until Reimer can play a full 82 he's not better than any other starting goalie who has played 82. Shit same argument could be made for Viktor Fasth who had identical stats to Reimer and was an MVP in his former leagues and one of the most revered goalies over there, he hasn't proved anything in the NHL because he's played backup goalie numbers, same thing Reimer has done

Lol, no goalie plays 82 games. You guys seem to be the only people who don't consider him a starting goalie. He clearly is.
I also said excluding that one year for Smith. Other then that he has been average. You guys are severely overrating Smith and underrating Reimer. Reimer has not put up "backup goalie numbers". Only backup related numbers would be his games played.

....That's what I was referring to
James Reimer- SV%- .924
Notable Backup goalies SV%
Jason Labarbera- SV%- .923
Ray Emery- SV%- .922
Jonathan Bernier- SV%- .922
Viktor Fasth- SV%- .921
Anton Khubodin- SV%- .920
Steve Mason- SV%- .916
Ben Scrivens- SV%- .915
Morale of the story, less games= Higher numbers because less chances to have bad games.

And read the morale of the story LESS GAMES PLAYED=BETTER NUMBERS
So therefore Reimer's numbers are skewed because he has not played a 80 game season a significant number of games. He hasn't proved himself in a full season that's what I'm saying. His numbers are irrelevant to me because he hasn't played a full season, half season numbers mean absolutely nothing to me, hence why this Ducks season means 0 to me.
Also I'm seeing 4/7 guys on that list played at least 20.

Err, don't say you guys, I never said he was backup goalie. I'm just saying for me to consider him proven like you guys do, I need to see him play something like 60 games (that's what a starter plays, not 82, not 40)

Lol it's half a season, anyone can play half a season and play well because it's a crap shoot, there's no consistency to it, hence why Montreal, Anaheim, Toronto ect. All made the playoffs this season in a full season I'm willing to bet none of those 3 would have been nearly as good as they ended up. They were all playing terrible down the stretch. Same deal as last season for Toronto played great first half, sucked ass second half. A players season is only relevant when they actually play the entire season

So you consider him a starter but he hasn't proven to be a good one?

He's played like a starter but hasn't proven he can be a starter until he can play 60 games.

I'm willing to bet Toronto would have. Also Toronto wasn't terrible down the stretch.
