Leafs Off-Season

I wouldn't say he is overpaid. It's a hefty amount but not overpaid. It's all about opinions. You cannot tell me that Scheifele will pan out, therefore, I would want to stick with the proven player.
yes, I can tell you that Scheifele will pan out.

Not debatable at all. He is a top pairing. If this trade happens EDM wins this easily IMO. We won't make the playoffs either unless Nonis has another deal up his sleeves on obtaining a top defenceman.

I could easily see it being Gardiner and him potentially having asked out of Toronto after the way he got treated last year. Though I'm not sure why they'd want another puck mover with zero D skill when they have Schultz and Whitney. Your also talking 7th OV in an extremely deep draft so that pretty good value

It is debatable, there are many teams in the NHL where Phaneuf would not be on the top pairing.

The fact that he is the only defenceman the Leafs have that can supposedly matchup against top talent every night says the Leafs are still pretty far away as a team, and should not shy away from trading average NHL defencemen with below-average skating ability and poor instincts, making $6.5 million a season in a contract year at the age of 28, for a 19-year-old future superstar.

He has the potential yes, but you can't guarantee anything. You can't predict the future.

so in other words you wouldn't have traded Dion for Crosby before he was drafted. Good to know.

We obvs need some improvements. Every team that didn't win the cup does. We have a solid goalie and an incredible offensive lineup. Our rebuild isn't over but it's near it's end.

apparently Deen thinks we're ready for a big cup run therefore we should avoid trading 28-year-old defencemen making $6.5 million in a contract year that aren't anywhere near elite for a shot at a young potential superstar.

Big cup run? When did I say that... All I said is we can make the playoffs. We should be adding to the team to make it better. Not trading our best players away...
