Because it takes a long time for goalies to progress. We would actually be able to give Fucale all the time he needs. Then eventually we would come down to what most teams want. A starting goalie and a young kid as the backup who is looking to take over the role.

Just cuz they don't seem like it doesn't mean they don't. Shall I name many 5-9th round players/unassigned have become NHL stars? Heck Reimer wasnt expected to be an NHL goalie because of how little he played but here he is.

ah...i dont know much about the players outside of the top 5, but from everything i heard this is a very deep 1st round.

Lol you guys are kidding right? Yes you can get great players there but they can also be nothing. Yes they MAY turn out to be a number once centre just like Fucale MAY turn out to be a great goalie. I want to strengthen our goalie position for the future so we don't need to worry about it for a very long time.

But there's plenty of center depth in this draft. I believe there were 12 bonafide centers expected to go in the first round this year and most of them had a crazy amount of upside.

This draft is supposedly the best since 03 and in 03 there was 4 first round centers taken in the second half that are 1st line centers

Definitely a deep draft but no one around 21st is predicted to be good enough. I wouldn't mind grabbing a centre but I would just prefer Fucale. I have had my eyes on him for awhile now.

You have a 24 and a 25 year old goalie... Assuming one of them turns out to be your franchise goalie, by the time he's ready to retire your goalie in Fucale will be at the very youngest about 26-27? There's a difference between strengthening your goalie position and drafting for a need you don't have lol.

If the Leafs don't draft a center, I'd be surprised.. Despite what a few people might think, there are some solid centers out there. They won't draft a guy who steps in right away and becomes a 1st line center.. That just doesn't exist in this draft. Even guys like Barkov and MacKinnon will take a few seasons before taking on that role.

A guy like Bo Harvat, Alex Wennberg, or Frederick Gauthier would be no brainers if still around by pick 21. If not, I'm guessing they will take Kerby Rychel.. They've interviewed him a bunch of times, and have had a lot of articles on him on the website..

They won't be going Fucale (although I actually would like to see them do that). Clearly won't need any more defense.

I think we have a lot of solid center prospects that could be future 1st liners. I can't wait to see what they do.. Whether they get a big FA center or just let the younger guys prove themselves (Kadri/Colborne).. Will be a fun off-season..

Centres from 15th OA to 30th OA

Horvat: Would be nice to get but he is ranked at 15th OA, doubt he drops.
Max Domi: Would fucking love to get him but he wouldn't solve our big centre issue.
Lodge: Honestly can't say I heard of him.
Dauphin: From what I heard he won't become a 1st line centre (could change obviously) he needs to gain some weight.
Hayden: Big guy but again not a 1st liner.
Dickinson: Don't know to much about him so I won't comment.

I would rather just take Fucale unless Horvat or maybe Domi fall to us.

Tell me if I missed a centre.

Datsyuk says high? You mean the biggest outlier in NHL history lol. Not sure exactly what he has to do with the Leafs 1st round pick seeing as he wasn't even a first round pick. Anyways all these people talking about the Leafs needing a centre, sure we need a number 1 centre........THIS year. We aren't getting that THIS year at 21. In the first round you pick BPA because what your team needs now might not be what your team needs in 3-4 years when that player is breaking in. If they decide that Fucale is the BPA then so be it. Remember in 2005 when the Habs got roasted for picking Price in the first round because they had Theodore? Ya pick doesn't look so bad now does it. END RANT.

Add in the fact that you're set on goalie right now and Fucale's not expected to be some can't miss prospect and you really have no reason to spend a first on him when you have 2 young capable goalies. It's a waste of a pick
