So. At this moment, here are my thoughts on lines going into the season.

Lupul - Bozak - Kessel
van Riemsdyk - Bolland - Clarkson
Kulemin - Colbourne - Kadri
Orr - McClemant - McClaren

The 2nd and 3rd lines could be interchangeable as both checking/scoring lines.
I don't have Kadri as our go-to center yet, because I just don't trust what I've seen out of him in the faceoff circle, and his defensive game could use a touch-up. But he could be there, without a doubt. I love the kid! He's a great player!

Phaneuf - Gardiner
Franson - Gunnarson
Fraser - Brennan

Now, there are some other options on defense we have. O'byrne, Holzer, Blacker, Percy, and Reilly could all have a spot on the top 6 with a good training camp.
I really want to see if Gardiner can keep up what he did in that last playoff series, and translate it into a full season. Because he could be deadly, if he can.

Reimer - Bernier

These two will split time.

So that's what I think, heading into the season.
Thoughts?

Stellar deal for Bernier; IMO pretty low risk.

A lot of "what if's" with Bernier coming into Toronto, having to compete with Reimer, and potentially having to shoulder the #1 job in such a large market.

Well done on this contract.

JVR - Bozak - Kessel
Lupul - Kadri - Clarkson
Kulemin - Bolland - ?? Colborne/Aston/Biggs/Ross/Ryan/Devane/Broll/ Crescenzi
McLaren - McClement - Orr

That is better than your line because why would Kadri play 3rd line wing? Doesn't make any sense at all and then Right wing also. For 3rd line I wouldn't mind Ryan there if he is ready for the job.

Defense

Gunnar - Phaneuf
Liles - Gardiner
Fraser - Franson

Why would you play Phaneuf/Gardiner? That's a terrible pairing on the back end. Phaneuf played his best with Gunnar beside him. It would be nice to get a solid shut down D and move Liles so Gardiner can have someone to compliment him. Also why would you break up Fraser/Franson pair? That was our best pair last year....and O'Bryne is a free agent so we do not have him. Percy will not be on this team. Holzer still isn't good enough. Blacker has no spot here. Rielly will play another year in the AHL. Also we have Granberg though who might battle for a spot on the big club. Guy is a shut down D that we need. I expect him in the AHL though.

I'm happy with this team going forward. Could make some tweaks here and there but I think it's all about development from our young players now. Can Kadri be a PPG player or close to it from now on and be our true number 1 C? Can Gardiner make his transformation from half-God to full-God? Can Rielly step in and be a great D for us in the future? Can Finn or Percy? Can Bernier be our true number one guy?

If all of that happens then we will be a cup contender.

Want the Leafs to sign a shut down D still. Need to resign Fraser/Franson to re-sign. I'd really like to get Hal Gill though.

Gill lacks all mobility by now, he's more of a #7 mentoring type d but he'd be REALLY useful for a guy like Gardiner or Reilly coming up with their offensive prowess. He's a huge part of the reason Subban had such a great progression in the NHL defensively.

Gill has 'lacked' mobility his whole career...he'd be a perfect D partner for Gardiner so then Gardiner can do what he is best at.

Subban still isn't even good defensively lol.
