This was about timing. Hamilton is in a win now mode and FourFour and future picks couldn't really help us right now. Edmonton had expiring assets that they needed to move before the deadline. Those players can help us right now.

This was a great trade for both teams. Edmonton gets quality for what they were going to lose, Hamilton gets immediately better for the playoffs and FourFour gets a good opportunity. Everyone wins here. Except for New England.

Having two actives at the most important position in the league is a nice problem to have. . .

You also have to understand, Dooley and Dahl are retiring and if the Blizzard are out of the playoff race, then they're going to want to help those two get a final shot at a cup, and Hamilton does that for them. even if it means taking a little less value, or stocking a position you have. It's what makes good GM's good, you have to give things like that to your players.
