Interview with Ursin Zimmermann and Daniel Kuster by SSM (Swiss Sport Magazine)

Peter Meier did a Interview with the two future SHL Player for the Toronto North Stars. Currently both played their second Season in the SMJHL. Ursin @UrsinZ played for the Anaheim Outlaws, but the Season Ended after the second Round in the Playoffs against the Detroit Falcons. For Daniel @kuschy, it was a hard loss in the Final of the SMJHL Cup – Daniel loses with the Colorado Raptors in 6 Games against Carolina.
Both are back in Switzerland during the preparation for the WJC – for Swiss Sport Magazine, the took a Seat for a talk after a practice with the Team.

SSM: Ursin and Daniel, thank you for your time and we are glad to have you here. After a long Season in the SMJHL and the IIHF World Championship you are preparing with Team Alpine for the Junior World Championship. How do you feel right know?

D: I had a few losses the last couple days, first the loss in the Final of the SMJHL, after a couple losses with Team Switzerland in the IIHF and the miss of the Playoffs. But still had not much time to thing about it, preparing for the next Event is more important and I’m ready to play with the Guys for a Medal.

U: Glad to be here, pretty good, body a bit sore, happy to be back with the boys.

SSM: How was the Season for you? Did you reach your expectations?

U: Not quit what I wanted, didn’t reach 30 assists, wanted to get more goals, defense is lacking mostly because I have not enough endurance.

D: Nearly, wanted to win the Cup, but for me personnel, I feel good.

SSM: Ursin, you took a new personal height in Assists this Season with 28 Assists and a Total of 29 Points. You missed your Goal by one Point – do you feel bad about that or you are lucky you got that close to your goal?

U: As said pretty mad. But now more motivated to hit at least 30 assists. But goal is 40.

SSM: Daniel, you had 27 Points, two Points less than Ursin, but you reached a +/- 8, what does this statistic means for you?

D: I wanted to get these 30 Points, but I’m a defender, so my main goal is to protect our defensive Zone, a +8 means I did a good job this season, and I’m proud. For next season it’s again my goal to reach 30 Points and still to have a positive +/- Statistic.

SSM: Missing the Cup in 6 Games is hard, how did you come over it?

D: Oh yea, it was hard, we had such a great Season. Okay, with a few losses in a row, but overall, we played very well. To lose this Cup in 6 Games was hard, but I had not much time to be sad about it. The next Day we had to be back in Zurich to prepare for the IIHF. So, I get over it very quick because of all these Schedule I had.

SSM: Ursin, what are your thoughts about the last Season?

U: We did great, good rookies, awesome teammates, bit disappointed about our playoff run, want to reach the final this year.

SSM: After a long Season in the SMJHL you also played in the IIHF World Championship for Team Switzerland. You both played together in the same Line. How is it, to play together in the same Team, in the same Line and for the Country you where born?

U: I love it, Kuster is an awesome guy to play with, has huge hockey knowledge, have good chemistry. Thought we had a really strong performance on the ice

SSM: The Championship went not really well, you lost a couple of Games and missed the Playoffs for the Medals. How did you feel about it?

D: We really had a bad start and a slow start into the Tournament. When we started to play better, it was to late, but still, we have a young Team and I’m sure we are going to come back next season even stronger.

SSM: The next Highlight before the End of the Season is the Junior World Championship, what are your expectation with the Team Alpine?

U: Gold

D: After we won last year the Gold Medal the expectations are high. We want to get a Medal again and we will do everything possible to archive this Goal.

SSM: Than you for your Time and good luck for the Tournament with the Team Alpine.
