They should start counting Giveaways and Takeaways that lead to goals in the FHM. I know currently we can see these stats but it would be great to add a portion of this that results in your team being down a goal. It would help us determine who the biggest liability is on the ice and who needs to work on defence. Also it would allow us to see who is a dirty thief and should not be left alone on the penalty kill or else he will be gone the other way. It's a great defensive metric but also one that allows us to see what offence can come from being a great defensive player. I don't know how they would determine in the stats how it became a goal the other way or how it became a goal for your team if it's a takeaway though. That being said, then coaches could figure out who they should put out on the penalty kill better.

When it comes to letting your fantasy to run wild I guess I would like to see some stats to be added that would reflect something around the player but off-ice. Like for example if there would finally be added the option about endorsements or sponsor deals with players then maybe a stats like - charisma, humour, looks, verbal communication stats - that could be achieved in off-season training sessions addition to the normal training sessions. Let's say you would want to become better looking one, you could go to get a new hair cut, go and hire a fashion coach, maybe even do a plastic surgery on something. You could go to speech coaches and so on. That is just my fantasy of what could be fun stats and activities to train the stats to add. I still hope to see endorsement deals to become a thing in this league and I believe that requirements like popularity next to maybe some statistical requirements would be good.

I would add minutes played as a stat. I would use minutes played as a scale for points. So, players playing less time would be on a fairer level. I think it would make fantasy more interesting, because first line players would not necessarily be good picks simply based on the fact that they play a lot. Also, I think it would reward more players that play well and perform even though they don't get as much ice time as others. For goalies, I would like to somehow add a winning/losing streak stat. I think adding this would reward more goalies who are doing really well and that are consistently doing so. I wouldn't let it have too much of an effect on points, so that goalies on really good teams don't do too well compared to goalies on really bad teams (like TBB). With these two stats added, I think that it would make fantasy more interesting and more rewarding.

Hmm, this is an interesting one. I didn’t really pay attention to the own fantasy team I drafted this season in the SHL, so to be honest, I’m not even sure which stats count for the current format. I also don’t know how many extra stats are counted in FHM, as I’m unfamiliar with it. But, here I am, anyways, taking a stab at what I think should be added, as I’m pretty sure these don’t already count...

1) Save percentage. This one would be hard to do. Really hard to do. But I used to be a goalie and I feel we didn’t get enough love. If I lost the game but stopped 44 out of 46 shots, I see no reason why I shouldn’t be rewarded with fantasy points. For example, If you save .940-.960 it’s a few extra points. 1.000 would be like 5. Who knows?

2) Penalty Minutes. Seriously, we should be losing points for this. I’d like to see this added for sure. Your fantasy players should be on the ice, not in the box!

When I think of fantasy, for some reason the first thing that pops into my head is Spongebob. In particular, I keep picturing that bit where Spongebob is arcing his hands over his head and emphasizing "Imaginaaaation."
So when it comes to designing an icon to represent fantasy, I went with the cloud and rainbow idea and iconography. I also wanted it to be something that, like the Cup logos and HOF tags, didn't have to change with every season. Adding a number to the design, however small, forces that. I also wanted it to be clear enough to know to get the gist of the representation at a smaller size, but still look okay at a larger size. This is what I came up with:

I'm a bit annoyed that the background didn't stay transparent in Imgur, but okay.
To take it a step further, I used @Avakael, since they're the Fantasy Manager, as an example to show what it would look like in a trophy case, adjusted to the correct size:

I don't do fantasy here on the site but I'll give it a go as to what should be included. I'm a defensive defenseman so if I were to add some new categories to fantasy it would be ones that made me look better. I would add stick checks in addition to the regular body checks. Next would be take aways for when taking the body is not necessary and give aways for when you suck. Blocked passes should be its own category as well. It is so hard to quantify strong defensive play that these kinds of categories would be awesome. Keeping track of defensive zone starts would make sense also. I think that regular body checks and total knock down hits should be in different groups. Get some additional points for absolutely blowing dudes up at the blueline. Lastly some sort of category that kept track of the percentage of high danger shots allowed while on the ice would be ace as well.

Hear me out, but what if we play around with the Giveaways and Takeaways? Franchise Hockey Manager, being the only simulation engine/game that is officially licenced by the National Hockey League gives us unparalleled access to all sorts of stats. Personally I love to balance all types of players in my fantasy lineups and having players who are defensively responsible is one way of doing so. Simply put, you'd gain points for every takeaway and lose points for every giveaway.

But wait, there's more! What if we go Meta and change Fantasy as a whole? Im talking head to heads baby! Everyone in each group plays each other once head to head over the course of a sim week with their team's goals, assists, points, hits, shots, shots blocked and possibly more, as well as their goalie's stats added up and compared. Then they get points for each category won against their opponent.

I've been doing fantasy pools for a bunch of years, at first most of them were just goals and assists, goal wins and shutouts. That was ok, but when they started to introduce more stats that you could get points off it became a lot more interesting. Of those additional stats, the ones I liked the most were power play, short handed points and game winning goals. I like these stats because it allowed you to pick a player that some might look past because they weren't on the top of the leader board for points but they might be a power play or short handed specialist. Someone who plays very well on the special teams became someone who was worth drafting, which rewarded any 'GM' for knowing this and picking that player. For game winning goals. I just really like that stat, again it makes the fantasy GM look past the overall points and try and find someone who consistently steps up in those clutch moments.

I would probably add special team stats like PPG/PPA or PPP and SHP. A shorthanded goal should be worth more than a regular goal because of how rare it is, so it should get you more points. I don't think a power-play goal is more important than an even-strength goal but I'd still add PPG or PPP because all my fantasy leagues count it and I like having it as a category. Another category I really like is faceoff wins. I think it works great in real life because there are so many good centers in NHL and I consider wingers and defensemen more valuable because of that, however, FW adds more value to top centers. It wouldn't be the same in shl fantasy though because everyone would try to draft 3 forwards who take faceoffs, so I would only count FW for one forward on the roster. I would also maybe add game-winning goals, it's a nice bonus when your goal turns out to be a game-winner.

So I was going to come in here and try to act intelligent about hockey, making serious suggestions about fantasy hockey that we could do with FHM. Then I realized that, well, I don't actually know much about hockey and I'm just here because StamkosFan recruited me. So option number two is for snarky losers like me. I'm trying to think of areas where I'd totally kill it, so there definitely needs to be a category for emoji usage in Discord. I'm not sure where I'd be without my emojis. We could also create a category for creative reaction GIF usage in Discord or on the forums. We don't want people just throwing that stuff out there willy-nilly because it decreases the magic of GIFs, but if you always seem to know just when that Jean-Luc Picard facepalm GIF needs to be used, there needs to be some kind of reward for that. That's the kind of skills I'm here for.

Some off-ice statistics that should be added to a fantasy SHL league should center around the Media Graders, as I am one myself. A negative fantasy stat that could make you lose points could be skips per week or how many grading periods a grader missed so like -1 point per day missed.. Another one could be bonuses per week, how many bonuses a grader dished out each week. Another fantasy statistic that could be added to this fantasy league could also be number of 1000+ word articles graded would be worth 2 points per article, and 250-1000 would net you 1 point. Finally another statistic that should be added is number of complaints received by the community for grading mistakes, hopefully they are rare but when they come they could adversely affect your fantasy score, let's say -2 points as who wants to get complaints on your grading?

There's three stats that I would add to Fantasy and that would be Secondary Assists, Shooting Percentage and fights won. When it comes to the Fights won category there should be a thing where you lose points if one of your Fantasy players gets into a fight and loses one. It'll give more depth when selecting players for your team, in that the Fighting stat will be shown some light when selecting guys. One team could have one or two guys in that category or their could be no guys on a team because they are that confident that their team can win without that. Secondary/Tertiary assists are more of an analytical add to Fantasy and it's interesting stat to track when it comes to certain players at the NHL level, like Mitch Marner who was Top 3 in Secondary/Tertiary Assists in his rookie seasons. And Shooting Percentage comes in correlation with shots and goals scored. The more of that could mean a higher percentage or a lower percentage.
