INTRODUCING - Devin Williams - The small town Canadian Sensation X2 Media
Devin Williams was born in a small town named Kenora, Located in Ontario, Canada. It's a small population of only 15 thousand people but a very major hockey community. Devin grew up watching local teams on the ice, One major player being a future Philadelphia Flyers captain, one Mike Richards. Having a player of that calibre come from your same small community really drove Williams to push his game harder, and farther than he ever thought he could. Devin grew up participating in small tournaments, Many of which were hosted in Kenora yearly, and usually ended up impressing many of the coaches and fans. Williams had a very bright future ahead of him, despite being off radar for many SMJHL teams until the very last minute, As he'd never been given the minutes required to really make a huge impression on many scouts. William's very confident yet abrasive style didn't sit well with some coaches, but he felt if he never spoke up he wouldn't be given to opportunity to show what he was made of. as such, he had a quiet confidence in himself, as did his teammates, albeit at the lack of faith from coaches, but that would change soon enough. Although Devin would soon enough start to love hockey, He never really was very serious about the sport until he was older. He was more of a jack-of-all-trades, and played all sports at a decent ability level, never reaching a high skillset in any game until something struck a chord with him in hockey, and he began to dedicate all his time to the sport. Everyday, Williams would be on the ice at 6:00AM, practicing his skating, his stick handling, his hand-eye. On off days Devin would study game tapes from NHL teams, their D-corps players, their styles, their skills, practicing all the moves they would do. Devin knew he was born for defense, He was by no stretch of the imagination a smaller, fast skater, although his practise paid dividends and he was able to create a great balance of offense and defense for himself at his 6'3 frame. Williams is a fierce competitor who plays his heart out every night and plays to win. He is unafraid to get to the dirty areas of the ice, or make a slick play that impresses his teammates and opponents alike. His defensive approach is strongly focused on shutting down his opponents strongest players, giving them no room in front of his goalie, making them uncomfortable in their favourite shooting locations. Being a larger player, Williams is willing and able to lay down a big hit to rally his team and pump them up, making them put in more effort every time he's on the ice. His offensive and defensive capabilities are balanced, although his defence his by far his biggest strength, as it should be. Don't let that fool you, though. Williams can clap bombs and f- moms. anywhere on the ice. Devin Williams was a born winner, Literally. He was one of the very rare, detected cases of vanishing twin syndrome. That's right, Williams at the age of 12 weeks or earlier had already defeated his twin in mortal combat, From that moment on his family knew he would be someone to watch, and indeed he is. Although Williams has made a name for himself, albeit a small name at the moment, it's not due to lack of trying. 4 years before his unexpected drafting in the SMJHL, Williams was involved in a near fatal collision with a truck. He suffered broken bones, a fractured skull, and he lost his ring finger, which unfortunately meant the only wedding he'd have is the one with hockey. Or fortunately if he pans out to be a great player. When asked to comment on his ability to play ice hockey while missing a finger, Williams had this to say. "Huh, it's never felt like a disadvantage, Seems like it makes me skate a little faster to be honest." *Chuckles* Williams also had this comment about the truck driver that struck him that night. "He got me, that f'ing trucker boomed me" he said. "He's so good" repeating it four more times. He then said he wanted to add that trucker to the list of guys he wants to train with in the offseason. The recovery was extremely hard on him, it took Williams a very long time to walk again, recovery was not easy at all, but williams determination was yet another strong factor in his recovery, a recovery that made a couple teams take note, as he was quite the success story, hitting the ice harder and faster than the truck that hit him. No one knows just how far Williams can take his career, If you'd asked him right now? "To the top, baby, to the top." Word Count: 819
