S53 Maine Timber Team Awards
#1
(This post was last modified: 05-15-2020, 10:52 AM by CementHands.)

Ladies and Gentlemen, welcome to the first ever edition of the Timber Team Awards - S53 Edition. As a franchise individual awards are something that we haven’t done in many seasons. Management feels that it is important to recognise team successes and celebrate these accomplishments together as a team. Tonight we will be presenting 5 Awards: Leadership, Rookie, Forward, Defender - each named after a franchise alumni who excelled in the position the award is being named, and a team MVP.

First off the board is the Atlas Rush (@Rublic) award named for the best leader both on and off the ice, nominated by their peers. The nominees are:
Al Kayhall - Kayhall has been the first and only captain named to the team since Atlas himself wore the C. He has been the captain for 2 seasons (half of his SMJHL career) and has lead the team through victory, and many defeats.
Valentin Kalashnikov - Valentin was the Timber first round pick in the S52 SMJHL entry draft (5th oa). He has been an extremely vocal leader off the ice, and bleeds green and earthy tones on the ice.
Alexander Roach - Roach signed on as a free agent shortly after the S52 SMJHL entry draft. After a middling rookie season he has shown a massive jump in his second season both in on ice performance, and off ice work. He has turned into a true draft steal for the Buffalo Stampede and continues to show commitment to the team and overall improvement.

The winner of the Atlas Rush award is …

Al Kayhall!

Best Rookie is named after Rainbow Dash (@Eggy216) - the first and only Timber / Raider (for now at least) to go 1oa in the SMJHL draft, and follow that up with 1oa in the SHL draft. Truly an exceptional Rookie, and top prospect across the board. The nominees are:
Mikkel Asmus Sondergard - MAS was the Timber first pick in the S53 SMJHL entry draft. He put up a lot of minutes spending most of the season paired with Valentin Kalashnikov on the Timber top defensive pairings. He was an absolute workhorse putting in minutes usually reserved for 3rd or 4th season players.
Konrad Danke - Konrad was Maine’s second pick, at 11 oa. He was recruited to help shore up a very weak center core which saw only 1 returning player and did just that. He was a very high end earner for most of the season and always ready to give a hot take to reporters.
Leo Bloomfield - Bloomey was picked at 19 oa, and almost universally called a horrible draft selection. What were the Timber thinking with this pick? There were so many other better quality players we could have picked at this spot. These were all kinds of quotes that us in the management team heard throughout the preseason and well into the season. What can I say, we saw something we liked, and the spot fit our draft plan. Well, Bloomey certainly didn’t disappoint. He started 24 games, led the team in wins, and shut the door when it was needed.

The winner of the Rainbow Dash award is …

Leo Bloomfield!

Now, moving over to the top forward award. Named after Esa Parmborg (@Steelhead77). Parmborg played for the Raiders for 4 seasons and put up a superb 142 points over that span that is going to be very tough to beat, even with the FHM engine. The nominees are:
Thicc Cheezy - Thicc put up 18 points with an abysmal 3.94 shooting percentage. He played just under 20 minutes per night and was one of the premier shut down wingers in the league.
Al Kayhall - Kayhall put up 26 points, leading the way for the Timber after we traded away Trivvy. He had a shooting percentage of 8.46, so again a bit of a bad luck curse.
Alexander Roach - Roach along with Soupcan were the returning Centers. Playing in a primarily shutdown line all season, Roach put up 16 points on a lowly 4.00 shooting percentage.

The winner of the Esa Parmborg award is …

Al Kayhall!
@mxman991

The final award that was voted on by the team members is the top defender award. Dominic Montgomery (@bilbo) played with the Raiders for 4 seasons (S44 - S47) and was one of the top defenders in the league for each of his final 3 seasons before his call up. He was a steadfast defender who was a consistent anchor the team could rely on. The Nominees are:
Valentin Kalashnikov - Valentin finished his second season as the blue line leader on the team. A fearsome opponent that had to be monitored by opposing teams, it was always noticed when he was on the ice.
Mikkel Asmus Sondergard - MAS came in hot off a big contract and a 1oa draft pick. He quickly made his way to #2 on the depth chart and worth every penny. He formed his game into a fearsome shutdown defender and he will be be a terrifying presence for seasons to come.
Wil Windsor - The other rookie defender, Windsor lead the SMJHL in blocked shots for much of the season. Always ready to put his body on the line, he was a consummate defensive defenseman.

The winner of the Dominic Montgomery award is …

Valentin Kalashnikov!
@suavemente

For the MVP we did not take in team feedback. This award is and will be decided by the GM’s and Coaching staff, so this season it was decided by Tomas and myself.
We had a down season, but we had many bright spots. We have a bright future and this player is a key part of that future. We were expecting them to come in, and learn this season and were not expecting the performance he put out both on and off the ice, and neither was the league. “Bloomfield makes the save” is going to be haunting the dreams of opposing teams for seasons to come.

The S53 MVP for the Maine Timber is Leo Bloomfield!
@BloomeyGB

With that we thank you for tuning into our newly restarted annual team awards. Congratulations to the winners and nominees. I look forward to seeing everyone back here in one season's time, where we will have much more to celebrate.
