S54 PT #3 - Casino Rewind

For several seasons the casino has been a big part of the start of each new season. When it was first introduced I think a lot of people were really excited and still are. The casino is a great way to earn some extra money if you are making smart bets, but as any other casino heartbreak lies just around the corner. As a member of the PT team I also know how much work it cost and continues to cost to get the casino going season after season. A lot of great effort has gone into that and I like to think that it's been well appreciated.

As for betting myself I haven't done much betting in the casino. I'm not really a betting kind of guy. But the ones I did make I earned money on. Every season that urge rises to make some bets to make "easy" money, but I've been able to restrain myself fortunately.

I think Casinos can create additional azarts about the games in progress, but it must not be taken away. This could lead to dependency if it were to be applied in real life. If I had to put the stakes, I'd be delighted if it could also be put on junior games, not just the adult level. The stakes in this league are relatively rare, and on little chance, it would be better to put them separately on different games as well. I used to put rates on games on the portal, but at low rates, so that my balance of money in the account would not suffer in the event of a loss. Rate-setting has its own benefits and its own minuses, of course, if everyone can control themselves and not use this business in real life, then everything will be fine. As I said, rates should be more frequent, with more opportunities.

I haven't participated in the SHL Casino or even taken a look at it. I'm not a huge gambler to begin with but I especially don't enjoy it if there isn't real cash being involved. That is just a personal preference. With that being said, I'm probably in the minority with that and it seems like a lot of the users have enjoyed the Casino.

It's hard for me to give any suggestions on how they could improve it because I don't even know how it works. From the little I've seen from people talking it seems to be bets on things that could happen throughout the season and that's it. If that's the case, maybe they could do a special poker game each season with big buy ins or something. It could be a whole tournament. Maybe something that can be done in the off-season to add something to do.

I have never actually participated in the casino as sports betting or gambling in general is not something I particularly enjoy or do a lot of. This was my first season and basically only because it's an incredibly safe bet. Having said that, I really do enjoy having it around. I think it scratches an itch in Sim leagues that is hard to do in any other way. It creates some great storylines too that can really add memorable moments not just to players and locker rooms but to the mythology of the site as a whole. Best part of the whole this is that it is, in my opinion, very inonocuous.

As far as improvements go, I really have no idea other than creating more advanced betting. I don't even know what it's called since I don't gamble and have next to no experience or contact with that sort of stuff. I think people generally appreciate putting their knowledge to used in narrow fields so I think it would be a hit.

I think the casino was and still is a great addition to the league. It gives the rich users something more to spend their cash on and another competition in of itself. I have participated once in the casino during its debut when I had a little more cash flow and had fun with low bets and in the end made my money back. I bet on my Jets doing better and they did in the end. Now I am too poor to realistically bet on any team. But I wish I bet on the Rage to win the challenge cup in S52 because I had them champs in my season predictions as well. I think an addition that could be made is betting on awards or over/under for the best players in regard to points and/or goals. For instance lots of people would bet on Ola Wagstrom to win the MVP award and would thus have a smaller payout. But some crazy guy could have bet on a lesser known player and see some big winners. Or you could bet on your own player to do better than the casino masters dictate. And maybe let users with barely any cash to bet insignificant lower amounts like 10k or something just for the fun of it.

I think the casino has been a fun addition to the league as it gives those who want to participate something extra to follow during the season. I think in that sense it has been positive. If you have the money to play with might as well make a few bets each season and see what happens. If your low on money maybe bet small on something you think has great odds. It also adds a little bit of chatter to the locker room with players talking about what bets they like pre-season, etc. I think the odds makers have done a good job overall as well. Personally I have not bet every season, but I always check it out. If I see a few things that I feel could hit I'll place a bet. I can't remember all my bets but I know I've hit a few and missed a few as well, it all equals out I guess. As for features to add in the future, maybe some playoff series betting on number of games in the series, over/under on goals etc. Something like that could be fun, otherwise I think it works well and adds a nice option for those with good banks who enjoy betting.

Gambling addiction is a horrible disease that affects millions of families across the world. It is perpetuated by an industry run by slimeballs who pretend to have the best interest of the “customer” at heart, but then instead continually use comps and free offers to sink their hooks deeper and deeper into the most susceptible and keeping the cycle of abuse and suffering alive. People lose their families, their friends, and their livelihoods.

Recently, the SHL has implemented a Casino feature which encourages players to bet their paychecks on league outcomes. Among those who are encouraged to bet are the young players receiving their first paychecks. These players are very susceptible to vices at this time, many choosing to go out and buy fancy cars and houses that, in the end, they won’t be able to afford… especially with the high price of training these days.

That is why I, Name Redacted, am protesting the Casino altogether, and encourage others to do the same.

I'll be honest, I didn't even know the casino existed until reading this PT. I guess I wish I had bet on Hammy winning the cup after the whole passing debacle was going around. It probably would have been a pretty easy way to make some big bucks, which has consistently been a problem for me in the SHL considering I don't really feel like writing media. Other than that, I'm not really much of a gambler and honestly I wouldn't want to waste what little money I have on something as risky as the casino. I don't really think the casino has affected the league in a significant way considering this is the first I'm really hearing about it. I don't ever hear any big news about it or what bets may or may not be made or anything like that. I'm sure it's cool and all, just not really my thing and I'm not particularly interested in it.

Gambling was an awesome addition to the league in my very humble opinion. While I’ve never partaken since I’m consistently poor and in debt, I definitely would if I had the cash. Especially in this current state of the world with this global pandemic. No one can bet in real life and the casino is as poppin as ever. Again, I’m too poor, but if I had the cash I would’ve definitely homer picked the Chicago over. I think the casino is just in its infant stages as well. There are so many additions that can be made including setting lines not only for team wins in a season as well as cup champs, but also lines for individual players. You can set them for goals, assists, total points or even hits. I think that would expand the volume that the casino currently sees and add a new dimension to it. Don’t ask me to set the lines though.

When I think of the casino, I am reminded of a question on the recent media survey, in which we were asked if a certain event "was." Yes, the casino was, and still is. It has never affected my life, though, because I am too poor to participate and honestly even if I weren't pouring my blood and sweat and tears into making graphics to scrape together the cash to afford coaching, I would probably still be afraid of losing my money (which I prefer to keep in the form of rolls of quarters in a box under my bed). (all joking aside, I might participate if I had taken the time to figure out how it all works, but my season predictions are always copied from other people and I just don't feel qualified to risk money on it when I am still trying to figure out how to get even my own player to be good in this new sim engine.

I think Casino has overall been a really great addition to the league. It gives players a reason beyond fantasy to pay attention to other teams besides their own and offers great potential reward if you pay attention. I've earned a total of 9.8 M through casino since it was introduced and did my first parlay this season which I'm on pace to win big from. I 'd like to see more bets beyond just standings betting to give people more options for betting, maybe stuff like average league goals per game or betting on stuff like the highest-scoring game of the season. I'd also like to see some betting take place mid-season on some of the larger marquee games since it'd help build up those games to be even bigger. Overall, I'm a big fan of fantasy and hope it gets expanded in future seasons to improve the league even more.

Casinos are a elegant way to lose your money. It could be one of the most expensive hours of fun you can buy. But it could also be one of the fastest way to double your money or more. For me casinos are a no go. I am the kind of person how doesn't gamble with the hard earned money. If I need more money work more and harder but don't try your luck in a casino. So I never tried my luck on the SHL Casino. I know it's just fake money, but I would still hate myself if I would lose it. And because of that I never will try it. I don't even have read the rules. I have no idea what you could change therefore. But I wish the bank all the luck they can get, to take out a lot of SHL money, just a joke I hope everyone enjoys it to do it if they want.

Having never used the casino, this is a bit of an interesting and slightly unfair question. I think the casino itself is great, but as someone who doesn't have that big of a bank account there's no good excuse to use it. Maybe in the future it might be good for some place and forget bets, but as of now I've never truly felt the need to take a bet. That being said, it is fun to talk to people about the bets they did place and how they feel about them. The biggest one I've heard about is the bet regarding the Tampa Bay Barracuda's performance this season. Many are fully expecting them to go on without a single win, something absolutely unheard of. Other surprises people have mentioned have been Texas' performance this season as well, with mixed feelings on how long that performance will continue.
