S54 Fantasy Stats - SMJHL Edition #2
#1

So I'm a bit over a week since the first post - but now our sample size is considerably larger and hopefully that'll even out some of the stats a bit.  I'm also still broke so going to have to find a way to drag this out to a much longer post as I need to get the bank account way up before the start of next season if I want to keep buying training. I added a little more data this week than last week and will likely continue to expand as these go on.

So without much more unnecessary ado - your top 10 skaters in the SMJHL through ~29GP

Looks like @Ben is still on top of the ranks.  But we've got some newcomers into the top 10.   The spread across teams evened out a bit this week too.   NL was dominating early on (though had a game advantage) but that's settled down some with more games played.

I was curious how close they were to that in the prior stats so lets do a little tracking of that top 10.  I wanted to do some of those pretty charts I see on here sometimes based on up and down arrows for ranking but after a bit of googling it seems that it's a lot of work and I'm not THAT eager (yet).   So you get simple pivot table ranks:

Clearly with only 2 reports the sample size is pretty small - but you can see that there was quite a lot of movement here.   Jimmy Wagner comes in with the biggest climb from 86th to 7th while Tinke Jutila fell 42 spots.   What's also interesting is the top 2 players are <400 TPE.   Also the top 10 was rounded out by mainly 425 players so that's not much of a surprise.   Do we think Ben will hold this pace throughout the season?

Grouping skaters by team gives us standings that look like this:

And lets compare that to the current standings:

What's interesting here is MET's placement in the fantasy points ranking compared to their standings for the season.   While MET is in a 3 way tie for 7th (judging on points alone) they are sitting 3rd in total points for fantasy as a team.   This probably means something to someone, but I didn't spend the time to break that down.   Maybe next week as I look for ways to expand this review for more cash.

Now on to the goalies.   As always we'll group by team first as that's the SHL way:

NL is still running strong at the top of the list with a 25 point margin.  While the spread from first to last is substantial half way through the season I'd bet we see some moving around in the middle of the pack before the next update here.

For individual goalies we've got a much more static list than the skaters when comparing across reports:

NL's Cale Amundsen is still at the top of the charts for the goalies.  It looks like the NL defense is holding quite strong as Amundsen is sporting the lowest save count of the top 4 players while bringing in the most wins.    It's no surprise to anyone that if you can reduce shots on goal you are more likely to walk away with more wins and NL is showing that in spades

Our goalies haven't moved nearly as much as the skaters from the last look into the fantasy stats.  This isn't all that surprising as there aren't a ton of starting goalies, but our total list does include backups from all 10 teams.

From here we see that ANC and COL are splitting games pretty evenly between their primary and secondary golies and ANA is also riding their backup of Separa Borro quite often, though the games have not been going his way.   CAR and NL are sitting at the bottom of the list of games played by backup, but there is still plenty of time to get the required 8 games in for them.   Also worth noting is that STL's backup Nicolae Antonescu is running pretty strong with only 9 games played but sits atop both goalies from ANC and COL's split squads.

Well that's all for this week.   Good luck all!

Wouldn't be surprised to see Maine's fantasy point totals inflated by the amount of shots they take resulting in SB (Windsor anybody?) and probably hits since they don't have the puck. They score an okay amount despite that (or rather, lots of other teams score at the same rate as Maine but let in fewer goals) so that's why they're up there I guess.
