What an outstanding day it was, arena filled with prospects, general managers, co-general managers, coach(s), family and friends. Sporting a three piece suit hand in hand with my lovely girlfriend and baby girl. The smell of fresh "bretzels" and salty dogs hovered as fans and prospects take a seat and enjoy a once in a life time experience.
Focusing on the aftermath of this event, I wanted to get to know better my fellow prospects who will or have joined me in the Raptor Den! Colorado managed to make 7 picks in this draft and I will attempt to shed some light on these new Dinos. Lets get started and see how the team made out of this season 57 draft class. Left Defense - Ruggs McOoooh (@Ruggsy) - The very first selection made on this day by the franchise and it came at the 7th overall spot, offensively, Ruggs biggest offensive threat is his passing ability. Able to make tape to tape passes and find open seams when there are none to be seen! Sound position allows him to constantly be in the shooting lanes to make those big blocks (bff already), when not blocking shots, he has an active stick and knows how to use it. Also don't get caught with your head down, as the 6'1" 201 lbs d man can lay the body. Left Defense - Ren-Ekelemchi Shimizu-Okoli (@ProjectSaint)- Thanks for all those word counts! Otherwise know as RESO, the second selection of the day chimes in at 20th overall. Another lefty d-man but this time size does matter! Slightly bigger build than Ruggs, RESO checks in at 6'4" 224lbs. Do not be fooled by his size, the kid can skate and dangle with the best of them. Show casing superior puck handling skills allowing him to lure defensive coverage towards him allowing for his teammates to get open and capitalize on scoring chances created. Goalie - Yanno Rosejac (tags not necessary)- With their third pick and 21st overall, the Raptors elected to go long ball and draft a goalie. Probably surprised a bunch with this pick, but I know that there is no doubt they will not regret it! Big goaltender who models his game after his role model Carey Price. Good head on his shoulders with a chip for constantly wanting to win. His positioning, rebound control and puck recovery are through the roof at this level, couple that with very sound glove hand and blocker will only entice you to go low, but the butterfly stance he has is just as great as his gloves! Can't wait to see how this youngster develops in the Raptors organization. Right Wing - Bobby Motz (@Gold1)- The Boston native is the first forward drfted for the Raptors. Its not everyday an organization can put their hands on an alite scoring winger. At 32nd overall the Raptors managed just that! Offense is the name of his game, seldom seen behind his own blueline or backchecking all together, he makes up for it at the other end of the rink, dangling passed defenses and ripping scorching shots passed dazed goalies. Maybe better known as a one trick pony, but do not under estimate his speed or physical attributes all together. He will make you pay one way or another. A true finisher! Center - Wally Herman (@Wally Herman)- Picked up at 38th overall, again the Raptors pulled a rabbit out of their sleeve. The huge centerman is awesome in the dots, but this is not the end game. Give him the puck and he will know what to do with it! Powerplay specialist, setup man, finisher, you name it he can deliver. Watching Motz and Herman tandem will be a thing of beauty. Elite offensive skills across the board. Left Defense - Robert Feltersnatch (@Roamus)- haha ok well aaaaa, anme alone he should of went 1st overall! But since this is a league based for on ice talents, Robert was selected 44th overall. Again the Raptors try to shore up their defensive corps by adding already a third defenseman to the depth chart. No outstanding skills jump out at you here in his build. What we do see is a well balanced player capable of doing everything well. His physical abilities might be his strongest asset and probably spends more time in the gym training than working playbooks for now. Leave it to the Colorado Raptors developing scouts to steer him in the right direction. Congratulations to all prospects drafted, but seems like these gems on this page landed in the perfect spot. Without much effort one quickly realizes what tremendous work both @NONAME and @LordBirdman have made in building this franchise to where it is today. Thanks for the vote of confidence in selecting myself and the rest of our prospects and hopefully we will win a championship together. Locker room seems to be thriving and I can't wait to meet the rest of the organization. (875 word count 2x draft media)
