The Vancouver Whalers are looking stacked, thick, hefty, whatever you want to call it, they got it. After a disappointing exit in last season's playoffs against Carolina, Vancouver comes into S56 with high expectations. In terms of impact players, the first on the list is going to be center Daniil Nikiforov. Nikiforov amassed 18 goals and 21 assists last season for the Whalers, good for second on the team with 39 points. In the pre-season, Daniil put together a similar stat line, 2 goals and 4 assists to again be second on the team in points. Right winger Jason Desrouleaux also is a player to watch, given his strong preseason. Desrouleaux last season was solid, with 16 goals and 7 assists, good for third-most goals on the team. However, in the preseason, he scoured four goals and three assists, for the most goals and points on the team. If the Whalers are to meet expectations, they will need to hope Desrouleaux continues to find the back of the net. Speaking of the net, we can't forget goalie Name Redacted. Redacted played in 42 games for the Whalers last season, with a GAA of 2.57 and a SV% of .919. He was fifth in the league in wins and third in total saves. If the veteran netminder repeats, or improves, on his S55 campaign, the Whalers will be tough to beat.

The Kelowna Knights are looking forward to the S56 Season as they look to re-build on the fly with several youngsters in Anna Pontecorvo, Vlastislav Malik, Cian McFelter, and Brennan Huff. The vets on the team will play a major role in keeping the team competitive and serving as mentors to the rookies. LD Teddy Park is one such vet, who's demonstrated his defensive acumen in the pre-season, finishing 2nd in ice-time, highest GR, and highest DGR. Up front, LW Patrik Money will be called upon to lead offensively on the wing, especially with rookies Malik, Pontecorvo, Huff serving as his depth. He finished the pre-season with 1G, 3A, tied for most points (4), 3rd-most shots (20), and the highest PPTOI. Surprisingly, rookie winger Vlastislav Malik finished the pre-season tied for most points (4), most goals (3), 37.5% shooting, and 13 hits in 14:38TOI and no PPTOI. It'll be interesting to watch his progression over the season and how he contributes. Maybe the pre-season was just good luck? Go Knights!

The Kelowna Knights are hoping to watch some young new talent blossom this season as a group of rookies will be putting on the Knights jersey for the first time. Rookie RW Vlastislav Malik made some noise in the Pre-Season finishing with 4 points (3 g 1 a), tied for the team lead with Patrik Money (1 g 3 a) and Kynwyl Pearce ( 0 g 4 a). Cian McFelter didn't appear in the pre-season, but is rumored to be centering a line with Malik and fellow rookie Brennan Huff for opening night.  The D corps is a major strength for the team, with leaders like Teddy Park and Chris Goodname returning. In net, Peter Ramsey and Damien Vertigo will battle it out for the starting job. Ramsey sported a 3.61 GAA and .895 SV% in 5 games during the pre-season, going 1-2-2. Vertigo had a 3.32 GAA with a .908 SV% posting a 0-1-1 record. The roster is young and the expectations are low, but the Knights have the youth and their growth through the season could shine enough for them to make the post season.

The Berserkers are looking really good after a few preseason games. A surprising amount of production has come from our rookies and we're really confident that we have a chance of winning the four star cup again. One of the three players will be Center and Assistant captain Mats Marner. Marner is coming off an MVP award and plays a vital role in the Newfoundland offense. He's a powerful player who's going to open up the ice for his teammates through his physicality. As such one of the other key players is Liam Slate, Marner's linemate. Liam Slate is key because he's going to need to capitalize on the opportunities made by Marner. If he can do so that line is going to have a monster season. The third key player will be Mathew Forester. Forester will be the key play maker on the Berserkers roster and will be responsible for aiding the team in developing strong offenses. If all these key players can achieve these goals and the preseason is anything to judge by, Newfoundland is a Four Star Cup that everyone needs to worry about.

The Maine Timber had a rough preseason, although this wasn't necessarily on accident. The coaching staff were playing around with line combinations and tactics that they had been curious about trying for a few weeks. Getting to experiment in the preseason was a good way to see what was clicking and what wasn't clicking. While the vets on the team were having fun with the experiments, the rookies were taking the losses too hard. The coaching staff had to reassure them that its all in the plan.

Our newly minted Captain of the team Alexander Oscarsson is looking to lead this team to many victories this season. He is confident that our depth of forwards will help with the holes in our defense.

Kyle Sutton is a vital winger for the team, who notched many points in the 7 preseason games. While he doesn't carry a C or an A on his sweater, he carries a different pride. The pride of leading the team in 41 points last season. While he produced the most last season, he is looking to up his numbers again this season.

Sean Gatez will be watching Rikard Bjreg and Adrik Baranov closely in the upcoming games and taking his cues from the savvy veterans. "Adrik and Rikard have been great wealth's of knowledge for me" said Sean. They have really taken us rookie D-Men under their wing. "We all know we have big shoes to fill and need to help Leo not get peppered with shots"

The Colorado Raptors in my opinion had a fantastic preseason with a record of 4-2-1. With so many big pieces leaving the team this past off season and with a big question mark in goal, If I had to choose three guys who will make a difference this year to the teams success:

I will go with S56 class Rocko Strongo who has a fantastic rookie season in S55 picking up 14 goals and 32 points during the regular season, and in 6 playoff games where defenses is much tighter the rookie collected 3 points all being assists. The team is betting he will continue to develop and have another strong season for them up front.

My second pick is Asclepius Perseus Flitter who is from the S55 crop and has not disappointed the organization and will provide a much needed veteran presence. Was second in scoring last season with 42 points and 18 goals, Safe to say he should be at the top of the scoring sheet for the Raptors when all is said and done.

My last pick although not the least important and I could of added a few more but was limited to 3 picks, will have to go with a defenseman, No choice here as the team has but a couple of guys that they can lean on heavily during the season and Aumy Jr. is one of them. While only getting 20 points during the regular season which was good for 3 in d-man for the Raptors, Aumy did explode in the post season racking up a team high 5 points in 6 games.

As the defending SMJHL Champions, the Newfoundland Berserkers are built to repeat again this upcoming season. With an excellent rookie class, and seasoned veterans, the squad is ready to dominate again. Defenseman Matty Sandeen plans to live up to hype following being selected 4th overall in the S56 SMJHL Entry Draft. He had a great pre-season with 7 points in 7 games, and a 16.67 shooting percentage. Liam Slate looks to improve upon his solid season in S55, and could very well have over 50 points this season if his pre-season numbers are any indication of things to come. Additionally, left winger Mattias Birdstrom is going to be the most improved Berserker this season. After ending S55 with 7 goals and 12 assists, he should double that output in S56. Birdstrom is a coaches dream, willing to sacrifice his body for the team. He finished with 15 blocked shots in the pre-season, and had 72 last campaign. Those 3 key players, along with some other rookies should give Newfoundland enough firepower to keep the cup.

The Anaheim Outlaws come into this season fighting in the midfield with a number of talented rosters in their division. Ultimately it is up to the Outlaws themselves to maintain their position from last season and make improvements. They have a number of key returning players, some returning, but also some new.

Vincent Mietitore, the Outlaws rookies starting goalie, is probably the most important piece to their season as his growth over the weeks of the season will be extremely important on bolstering what is a solid, but also very new blueline, and even more so becoming a strong starter for a potential playoff push.

Next up we have Arsene Leclerc, another rookie, but his growth is another key piece to the Outlaws chances of making noise this season as he starts the season on the second pair and will be important to shore up the aforementioned rookie blueline.

Finally, we have the Outlaws main man, their captain Ryu Jones who will be relied upon to be the gamebreaker they need to overcome tough matchups throughout the season. If the young blueline and goalie can hold strong, Ryu Jones veteran presence on and off the ice will be the driving force for the whole team to overcome unfavorable matchups and have more success then might be expected of them.

Carolina Kraken opened up preseason day 1 with an offensive standout victory over the Detroit Falcons, managing to create more than thrice the amount of scoring chances than their opponents, though as much as they spent time practicing scoring, they didnt do as much work for their defense, only sealing the deal within the last minutes of the game. Sadly, the same offensive scheme didnt follow the game after, them being completely shut down offensively by the Berserkers. Their lack of defensive strategy showed up heavily during the game, long story short the Berserkers outscored, outshot and outplayed them.

New day, new possibilities, but the Kraken failed to bounce back from their previous setback. The Raptors having better offensive style paid off with 5 goals, and the Kraken only scoring once. Early scoring wasnt a problem against the Kelowna Knights, them starting off with 2 unanswered. Sadly, the same story from day 1 continues as they didnt seem to be able to score from their chances as the Knights came back from their 2 goal downsight to make it to overtime. Kraken stood up and took it home, like they should have in the first 3 periods. Next up was the Whalers who seem to give a similar sent as the Krakens, not being able to score from their chances. Game ending 2-1 in favor of Kraken, shots going 33-29 to them.  Clearly something needs to be done for both teams for day 3.

Day 3, and the coach has set things straight for them. Rematch against Kelowna, creating chances left and right and making the most of them sealed their victory over the Knights.  Speaking of the devil, the Knights faced the Kraken once more during day 3. The crushing feel of defeat clearly had them by the throat, Kelowna conceding 4 goals just in the first period. There was no way back from that, as they lose 7-2 with the Kraken boosting their confidence with a solid performance for the upcoming season. Needless to say, they are a solid candidate for the trophy this season once more.

The Kraken's three most notable preseason players include their starting goaltender Blunt Man, who stood up his game after their day 2 loss against the Raptors - only during 2 games conceded 3 goals (1.5ga) on 55 shots with an impressive .945 save percentage.
Next notable player happens to be their promising upcoming draft candidate Freyja Hellström. During the preseason he has shown that age doesnt matter on the ice, if you know how to play hockey. His consistency is through the roof, even when the Kraken are down by goals. Especially during the Kraken's awakening during day 3 of the preseason he handed out 3 assist and scored once in their 2 games.
Last but not least comes in their star player Vitek Vitecek. Along with his first line winger Hellström, Vitecek is one of the Kraken's key players. After their slump against the Raptors he put up 6 points in 5 games, making him one of the most efficient Kraken players this preseason. This strong skater has an incredible offensive awareness, and is truly a force to be reckoned with.

Honorable mentions this preseason: Axel Foley, Grape Fruit, Conner Hutton & Ragnar-Alexandre Ragnarsson-Tremblay

The Nevada Battle Born is looking great headed into the season. In the small sample size of the first 3 games of our schedule we top the West and are tied for first in the league with 5 points. The number one key player to our success is Tanjiro Kamado on right defense. Tanjiro Kamado has 5 points in 3 games so far and leads the team not only on the score sheet, but on the back check. Chad Danger is also a key player as one of our current point per game guys on the left wing. As a matter of fact, the Battle Born are strong on that side as Rob Wright also has 3 points in 3 games and will continue to drive our offense all season. Hopefully Rude Sniff can improve enough to leave his mark on the offense but for the time being he will work hardest at being a steady right side D man.

Newfoundland had a strong preseason and is looking to once again be in the hunt for the cup. Scoring looks to be a strength as not only do we have a few players in the top 6 poised to put up big numbers but we also showed that we can score up and down the lineup. Centers Lassi Suhonen, team captain, and Mats Marner will provide quality play and stability down the middle while RW Liam Slate will likely be towards the top of the league in scoring. The entire top 4 of the defense looks to be a strength and has already seen solid play from Renji Atake. Sophomore Jonas Kahnwald could be a difference maker on the back end. Last season he was one of the top rookie defenseman and put up quality stats in all areas of the game. If he can take his game to the next level in a larger role this years Berserkers might just threaten to go back to back.

The Anaheim Outlaws are looking great coming into the next SMJHL season.  The Outlaws are looking to pick up some momentum early on in the season and ride that wave into a deep playoff run.  The Outlaws have some exciting rookies coming up from their recent draft and they also have some returning veterans that have the team excited for the season.  First round pick Aresen Leclerec has a lot of hype surrounding him, he is apart of a young defensive core that the Outlaws seem to be developing.  Another one of these defensemen is Michael Scotch second round pick in the most recent draft.  He is brining a lot of offensive firepower to the blueline and can score anywhere on the ice and can hopefully become a more physical presence on the ice.  If he and Leclerec can develop accordingly the Outlaws will have two young dynamic defensemen on their roster.  Veteran "Long" John Donair is returning at the beginning of the season as well and had a good preseason putting up some vital points.  If he continues playing like that the team will have a solid offensive presence all season long.

The Quebec City Citadelles are coming off of a previous season where they made it into the playoffs. And with a 5-2 record in the preseason they're still looking really good. Players like Kev Kevens and William Salming will have to produce in the scoring department. Both of which, if the preseason stats are to believed, should be able to do with no issue. Of course the weight doesn't fall on just their shoulders alone. The entire team, minus Mat Smith (Unless he can make some goals from down town), are going to have to pick up the production. Speaking about Mat Smith, going from back up to starter. This is his chance to really show what he's made of. He won 5 of the 7 preseason games. With a goals against average of 3.64 and a save percentage of .900. His numbers will have to be a little bit better then that if they want to secure some wins. Of course Mat will not be doing this alone as of the 28th of September. The QCC has picked up backup goalie prospect Tyler Ward. Who will hopefully be able to come in and give Mat some breaks when he needs it.
