S56 mPT #4 - Playoff Preview

I expect to see the Syndicate go down to the Winnipeg Jets. The Jets are an overpowering team and I don't think Chicago has what it takes to keep up for a seven game series.

In the SMJHL, we are optimistic about Colorado upsetting a couple teams. But I think ultimately it is going to be Vancouver to win it all. They have turned in a really good year. Solid on offense and defense. They are surely the favorite to win it all. My prediction would be Vancouver vs NL/ANC. And then Vancouver winning it in 5.

New Orleans might have a rough go at playoffs this year. They didn't make it in as nice a fashion as they have previously, and with two unproven rookies that could be taken advantage of on both offense and defense, they may need to make adjustments. Both Dakari and Hutton have had good rookie years, neither are likely in the conversation for rookie of the year, but the point production had this year as a defenseman on the bottom pair is impressive. Bohne Jr., one of the defenseman brought into New Orleans for this season, has done a great job in supporting him.

While Hutton was not close to being the most productive on the team, he was fourth among their defenseman and if he does struggle that could cause problems in some of the special teams he is on, along with his usual even strength time. He's had 5 points in the previous 11 games, likely fewer to be fair to him, but that just shows how streaky of a season he had. If they get the good side of Hutton, then I think the points he puts in will be important, and he won't be that liability on defense like we have seen select games this season.

However, we've also seen his ice time go down, whether that was intended or not. Of course, you'd almost think it would be the opposite, Hutton started with a lot of time that was very well not deserved. Now, we've seen his physical side of the game starting to at least hold up against everyone in the SHL now, he has racked up the hits in the last half of the season, started getting blocks again, and even had a fight against the Blizzard's Tony Pepperoni near the end of the season. These are all things playoff Hutton needs to continue to be successful, so we'll see how he does.

One storyline from the first round is one of the old expansion team against one of the newer ones. The Atlanta Inferno have had an okay season, but head into playoffs with a solid team, including the likes of DeMaricus Smyth, a former Specter, and a big part of Atlanta's insane defensive core, which the Specters will have to figure out. Their defense hasn't been stellar, so they've relied on offensive output for much of the season, which was helped by offensive characters like Kirkby, and obviously Hutton. Even with bringing in Cain near the start of the season, that defense hasn't been there for them, and it will be challenge again in the first round matchup.

My prediction? I think New Orleans is able to move on this season, beating out the Atlanta Inferno in 7 games. Most games will likely be close, with the occasional blowout, because these teams don't stop when they're up. It'll be an exciting series.

Texas made the playoffs as their division champion. They have been pretty hot latley and have shown some good results against the leagues top teams. May they surprise in the playoffs.

I feel like if there's a time for the Chicago Syndicate to prove they are a true contender, it's now. They have to be able to not only play with the best in their conference, but beat them in their entirety. I think they end up doing it, if I'm being quite honest. It's gonna be interesting to see how they handle Hamilton, but I think this is their year.

As the sim can be random, I wont be shocked if we don't win it all, but the Calgary Dragons have to be looked at as a top contender to take home the cup this season. The absolute domination they had in the regular season will hopefully keep up in the postseason as they steamroll teams on their way to hoisting the cup.

The Battleborn stunned many in the SMJHL by taking their division and getting a first round bye. I think that Nevada will continue to surprise and make it to the Finals.

Hamilton will probably reach the finals, and they'll face either chicago or buffalo. Atlanta will be able to win one series, but won't be able to go further. Edmonton will probably win against NEW. LAP is gonna get crushed by Buffalo, same thing for Winnipeg, who's gonna get crushed by Chicago.

For the playoffs, I think that Calgary is going to steamroll the competition. They have really put up some dominating numbers, and have the kind of big momentum that really comes in handy for long playoff runs. The experienced coaching also helps for these runs

New Orleans Specters:

The Specters have definitely looked more vulnerable this season than seasons past where they had been one of (if not the) the best teams in their conference, even capturing a Challenge Cup 2 seasons ago in a major upset over the favorites, Hamilton Steelhawks. I think they may have some trouble early on with the young upstarts Atlanta Inferno early on, however things should be smooth sailing after the first few games and they should get into the second round pretty comfortably.

Atlanta Inferno:

Following an incredible offseason the Inferno managed to earn a playoff spot for themselves where they now get the right to go toe to toe with a huge team with playoff success to show from the past few seasons. Atlanta GMs Hotdog and GoldenGlutes will have their work cut out for them here if they want to upset the Specters after assembling a great roster to work with.

Edmonton Blizzard:

I gotta give credit where credit is due, the Blizzard have done an incredible job this season with hiding their 3rd line and not allowing them to be exposed due to TPE differences. Despite all of this they still finished 3rd in the conference in points with 65. In the playoffs where TPE can be a glaring issue I think the Blizzard should have an easy job handling the New England Wolfpack who are still rather young compared to the experienced Blizzard.

New England Wolfpack:

The Wolfpack didn't have a particularly impressive season at all and should conder themselves rather fortunate to even be in the playoffs with a record of 25-23-2, they must be thanking their lucky stars that they aren't in a division with Buffalo, Hamilton and Chicago. One of the big differences in the playoffs is the importance of goalie TPE and this is where Frans Eller is in a lot of trouble in comparison to the other goalies in the league.

Chicago Syndicate:

The Syndicate might be the most well-rounded team in the SHL so far as they boast a great roster all the way down. They will be looking at the Smebs and Kennedy to lead them deep in the playoffs this season.

Winnipeg Jets:

The Jets have plenty of youth on the roster and are known to consistently make the playoffs however they might have  a tall order early on in the playoffs when it comes to beating the Chicago Syndicate.

Buffalo Stampede:

The reigning Challenge Cup Champions should not have many issues with a still retooling Los Angeles Panthers and should dispose of them fairly easily.

Los Angeles Panthers:

LAP will have some major struggles against the mighty Stampede led by Augustus Wang. The mighty Wang is capable of bringing down many teams and LAP will probably struggle against him and him alone, not to mention the many great players Buffalo has as well.

Nour is pretty hot ngl

I think Nevada has a real good shot at a cup this year in the J and I think Hamilton cruises to a championship in the big leagues. Kinda regret not throwing some cash on them in the casino :(

I think we the Stampede must defend our championship and we will do it. Because we have the hard work of a thousand horsepowers and we also are good at hockey and have great players I think it will be done.

SHL playoffs not being a typical east vs west thing will certainly be interesting. I think the strongest division is currently the great lakes division and I would not be surprised if we see all three teams from the great lakes who made it into the playoffs in the semifinals.

I think it is time for the Chicago Syndicate to get the cup we have been building towards for several seasons now. We have several players who are peaking this seasons and everyone should be very very scared, or at least mildly intimidated.

I don't understand the playoff seeding for the SHL and the SMJHL at all. If Tampa Bay makes it they will win the cup. If they do not make it, someone else will win it. Barracuda
