(GRADED) DEEP DIVE #1 PLAYER STATS PER LINE/PAIR
#1
(This post was last modified: 10-30-2020, 09:24 PM by leafs1997.)

With the postseason just getting under way and Newfoundland waiting for the next round to begin before they can hit the ice, I thought
it would be a good time to look at the level of production throughout the roster. I don't want to get too deep into statistics but I'll
try to provide enough to get a decent idea of how individual players/lines performed. For the sake of simplicity the point totals for the
forward lines and the defensive pairings will be analyzed separately.

1ST LINE :

LW - Mattias Birdstrom - 12G - 20A - 32P - +25 - 63GR - 17:32TOI

C  -  Mats Marner        - 17G - 24A - 41P - +24 - 64GR - 20:03TOI

RW - PBJ Souppan        - 9G - 23A - 32P - +12 - 66GR - 19:37TOI

total                            - 38G -67A - 105P - +61 - 19:30 avg TOI

% FWD PRODUCTION    - 34.5% - 34.8% - 34.7%

2ND LINE :

LW - Vaseline Podcalzone - 11G - 17A - 28P - (-1) - 65GR - 17:22TOI
C  -  Mathew Forrester    - 15G - 19A - 34P - (-1) - 66GR - 18:57TOI
RW - Liam Slate              - 11G - 30A - 41P - +9 - 65GR - 18:22TOI

total                              - 37G -66A - 103P - +7 - 18:00 avg TOI

% FWD PRODUCTION      - 33.6% - 34.3% - 34.1%

3RD LINE :

LW - Bas O'Bigbers      - 9G - 13A - 22P - 0 - 57GR - 12:19TOI
C  -  Lassi Suhonen    - 7G - 23A - 30P - +7 - 69GR - 16:39TOI
RW - Niccolo Livius      - 11G - 8A - 19P - +4 - 65GR - 14:29TOI

total                          - 27G -44A - 71P - +11 - 14:29 avg TOI

% FWD PRODUCTION  - 24.5% - 22.9% - 23.5%

4TH LINE :

LW - Dwayne Gretzky  - 4G - 8A - 12P - (-6) - 53GR - 8:06TOI
C  -  Colin Fuhr          - 4G - 7A - 11P - (-8) - 54GR - 8:27TOI
RW - Jake Peralta        - 0G - 0A - 0P - ( -3) - 49GR - 8:17TOI

total                          - 8G -15A - 23P - (-17) - 8:16 avg TOI

% FWD PRODUCTION  - 7.2% - 7.8% - 7.6%

FWD GROUP ANALYSIS :

In terms of point production this years NL forward group the top nine carried most of the weight as the 4th line was made up of 3 (promising) rookies,
with one of them joining mid season and only having 10 games to add to the point totals. The 3rd line lead by captain Lassi Suhonen held there own
scoring nearly a quarter of the teams goals among the forward group with roughly 4:30 less avg TOI than the top 2 lines. Additionally two of the three
had positive +/- while rookie Bas O'Bigbers, who put up a terrific 22P as a rookie playing barely over 12 minutes a game, had a +/- of 0.
Now if the top 9 carried most of the weight the top 6 did the heavy lifting. The 2nd line scored 33.6% of the forward groups goals and was lead by Liam Slate
who tied for the team lead in Points at 41 and lead the team with 30 Assists. Slate also drug the line to a +7, although his linemates were nearly positive
players as well. Now the 1st line was just dominant. They scored 34.5% of the goals among the forward group, only one goal more than the the 2nd line, but they
did so while logging nearly 1:30 avg TOI more and to the tune of +61.

1ST Def Pair:

LD - Tinke Jutila        - 5G - 11A - 16P - +19 - 63GR - 22:08

RD - Jonas Kahnwald  - 10G - 17A - 27P - +27 - 62GR - 21:49

Totals                      - 15G - 28A - 43P - +46

% DEF PRODUCITON - 38.4%G - 41.1%A - 40.1%P

2ND Def Pair :

LD - Renji Atake          - 2G - 14A - 16P - +12 - 63GR - 21:04
RD - Elias Kierkegaard - 9G - 12A - 21P - +14 - 65GR - 22:53
Totals                        - 11G - 26A - 37P - +26

% DEF PRODUCITON - 28.2%G - 38.2%A - 34.5%P

3RD Def Pair :
LD - Matty Sandeen  - 8G - 5A - 13P - (-16) - 56GR - 15:02
RD - Chad Alfa        - 5G - 9A - 14P - (-14) - 51GR - 14:30
Totals                      - 13G - 14A - 27P - (-30)

% DEF PRODUCITON - 33.3%G - 20.5%A - 25.2%P

DEF GROUP ANALYSIS :
Just like the forward group this is a top heavy group, although in a different way. The 3rd pair made up of rookies Sandeen and Alfa put up quite a respectable
amount of points given their time on ice. What really puts a damper on their season is the abysmal combined -30. The 2nd pair was a big step up with a respectable
increase in scoring but an especially a huge improvement in the plus minus category with a plus 26. Kierkegaard also sneakily lead the defensive group in time on ice
with 22:53 a game. The 1st pair takes an even bigger step up scoring the most goals and total points of all three pairings while driving play to the tune of a combined +46.

STARTING GOALIE :

G - Cale Amundsen - 42GP - 25W - 14L- 3OTL - 7SO - .914SV% - 2.45 GAA - 70 GR

BACKUP GOALIE :

G - Hugo Gronroos - 11GP - 3W - 3L- 2OTL - 7SO - .878SV% - 3.66 GAA - 57 GR

GOALIE ANALYSIS :

6'6" rookie Hugo Gronroos showed plenty of promise as the teams backup this season posting a record of 3-3-2 and a .878SV%. Gronroos is a huge body in net and he already
has a fairly well rounded skillset. Another offseason to train and bolster those skills should do him wonders. Expect him to come to camp poised to take on a larger role.
Now to the teams starter, Cale Amundsen. Amundsen was simply put the best goalie in the SMJHL this past season. Only two goales played more than his 42 games and he had more
wins, a better SV%, and a better GAA than both. The only player that even has an argument against that is Jon St. Ark of the Vancouver Whalers who in 24GP posted an insane
record of 19-4 with a 1.62GAA and .930SV$. While St. Ark had an unbelievable season for a rookie goalie I believe the fact that he only played about half the games that Amundsen
played and he played them for the best team of the regular season work against him in this argument.
