Hi everyone! We're coming to you again live for another SMJHL event, the S56 Awards Show. @Inf1d3l and @Wally will be hosting again this season, unfortunately for the final time. They hope to bring you a show like none before. Because of family commitments, Inf1d3l asked me to post the nominations and start building hype!

We'll have some surprises, winners, losers, and overall, just a great time. And this time, there's a twist!

Wally again will not know the results going into the show, so his reactions will be genuine and live! I'm sure this can't go wrong in any way...

Hello! Thanks for the question. SBs aren't the only stat we consider, but it is a decent part of our consideration. We balance that alongside SHTOI (total and as a percentage of total minutes), Takeaway-Giveaway ratio (if you're constantly turning over the puck, that's not really a good defensive game), and then GA/60, SA/60 contextualized within a role (for example, if a player's played most of their time as a 1PP/heavily offensive role, they may have an artificially low GA/60). I'd honestly love to get zone start stats and then have a metric for Corsi Against balanced to minutes to try to dig deeper, but we don't have that so :shrug:.

I know they also consider hits; I factor hits in context against PIMs. In my mind, a player who makes big hits but forces their team to kill a bunch of penalties isn't as effective as a player who plays a lot shorthanded and makes hits that don't lead to disadvantages for their team.
