S58 SMJHL Rookie Tasks Claim Thread
#1
(This post was last modified: 02-01-2021, 01:16 PM by thedangazone.)

This is the S58 SMJHL (S59 SHL) Rookie Tasks Claim thread. This task is only available for rookies entering the SMJHL during S58. These tasks will be available for all S58 SMJHL rookies for the duration of S58 and at the following offseason post between S58 and S59 it will close.

For claiming tasks simply make a post in the Rookie Task thread and link each task in said post to be graded. Please keep all claims in the same post and one of the Recruitment Team will come by and grade each task to verify they are done and then award the proper amount.

Once a recruitment member has replied to your post, please create a separate post in the thread with any additional tasks completed. Make sure to link any previous claim posts in subsequent claim posts.

- 8 tasks will be available, each worth $1,000,000 each. If a user completes all 8 tasks they will receive a $1,000,000 bonus for a payout of up to $9,000,000 total.

The 8 rookie tasks are as follows:
1. Create an update page
2. Claim an activity check
3. Buy a week of training (or claim free first training for first gen players)
4. Complete a PT (“Your first PT” and the "Rookie Survey PT" do not count)
- Please link to the claim thread of a PT you are submitting for this instead of linking the PT itself. We hope that will make tracking and verification easier on the recruitment team and keep us from being the determining force on what is or is not a PT or counts as a PT.
5. Create a graphic and post in the weekly submissions forum of the graphics thread found HERE
- Please put that this graphic is a "Rookie Task Graphic" in the title of the thread. Every graphic that is submitted as a rookie task graphic will receive a base payout equivalent to a grade of .5 / 5 on the graphics grading scale for 125k. With the 1M received for doing this task we hope this mitigates that payout and also makes things much easier on the graphics team. By labeling it a "Rookie Task Graphic" as well you will not use your 1st time graphic bonus.
If you do not label the graphic with "Rookie Task Graphic" then you will be submitted to normal grading guidelines and will use up your 1st time graphic bonus.
6. Write a Deep Dive
7. Watch an SHL or SMJHL stream on YouTube
-To verify, please do one of the following and post it in your rookie tasks claim:
Write 150 words about the games that happened during the stream
Create a 2-min podcast about the stream
Create a graphic about your favorite part of the stream ( please post the graphic in the rookie task claim thread and not as a graphics submission)
8. Complete the Rookie Survey (post that you completed it and we will verify with the rookie mentor head that it is complete for credit)
    - As recreates can not complete the rookie survey we simply ask them to link a player page from a past player for this task instead

Grading will be done when it's best available to the recruitment team member who is assigned that week and will not always be at the same time weekly so please be patient if grading is not done right away.

Thank you and have fun to all the SMJHL rookies.

Task 1:
Create an update page

Task 2:
Claim an activity check

Task 3:
Buy a week of training

Task 7:
This morning I am watching the S57 SMJHL Playoffs Stream where game 5 of the quarterfinals will be played. There are already two completed series since the Whalers swept the Falcons, and Anchorage swept St. Louis in four games. That means I'll be watching my team (Newfoundland Berserkers) attempt to upset the Quebec City Cittadelles followed by Anaheim vs Colorado, both of these series are tied at two games apiece.

In the Newfoundland game, the Cittadelles got off to a hot start in the first period scoring three quick goals past Hugo. Morale was depleting on the Berserker bench, and in the second despite an early goal for Newfoundland, QCC potted three more and were heading into the third with a comfortable 5 goal lead. After the seventh goal against, Hugo was pulled and there was a rare Tim Allen sighting in net for the Zerkers. It did not make much of a difference as Allen allowed four goals in the final 10 minutes and the Cittadelles ran away with game 5 by a score of 11-1.

Onto the second game of the morning, where Anaheim and Colorado were to break the deadlock in their series. Anaheim scored just three minutes in to put Colorado on the back foot. Then a lack of discipline led to a five on three in favor of the Outlaws, leading to a breakaway goal to extend the lead to two. It seemed that Yanno's confidence in the net may have been shattered after allowing the first two Outlaw shots in, but Colorado brought one back halfway through the first. Now into the second period, Colorado tied the game with a breakaway goal of their own. Anaheim took a penalty in the second half of the second, but their PK proved mighty as they scored a shorthanded goal to take the lead into the third. Colorado evened the score early in the third, proving that the close nature of the series was emulated in this fifth game. Anaheim then went on to score two goals in 10 seconds with 5 minutes to go in the third, sealing their victory and giving themselves two chances to advance to the semifinals. Neither goalie was solid on this night, but Vincent edged Yanno and that was the turning point in this vital game 5.

Task 8:

I’m watching the S57 SMJHL quarterfinals game 4, the Colorado Raptors at the Anaheim Outlaws. 2:32 into the first period, the first goal is scored by the Raptors’ Jed Mosley, Jr. The Raptors follow that up with another goal at 6:25 into the game, this time by Noel Blanchet. Kaapo Kampainen finally manage to score the Outlaws’ first goal with 2:36 left in the first period. The first period ends 2-1 Raptors, with an even 11-11 shots on goal for both teams. 4:43 into the 2nd period, Eero Makinen, Jr., puts the Raptors up another score. The Raptors score again with 10:14 left in the second period. The Outlaws are digging themselves quite the hole to climb out of! The Raptors pile on another goal with 5:29 left, this time by Ruggs McOooh. The second period ends with the score 5-1 Raptors, up 24-17 shots on goal. With 19:41 left in the 3rd period, the Outlaws finally show signs of life, with a goal by Niccolo Livius. The Outlaws continue their comeback at 16:42 with a goal by “Long” John Donair, making the score 5-3. The Outlaws make it 5-4 with another goal, this time by Michael Scotch. Unfortunately, that is the last score the Outlaws make, and the game ends with a Raptor win, 5-4!

I'm going to talk about game 4 of the Carolina Kraken vs Anaheim Outlaws playoff series that I had the pleasure of watching (not really pleasurable though). For a neutral, I'm sure it was a thrilling game, as was game 3, but for me as a Kraken player it was pretty disappointing as we fell behind 3-1 in the series with the loss. The game started poorly, Arsene Leclerc and a very Finnish sounding winger whose name I can't recall were able to slip a few past Blunt Man early in the game and they jumped out to a 3-0 lead. However, Carolina was far from done. Goals from Grape Fruit (1g, 2a) and Freyja Hellstrom brought us back to within a point. Offensive Defenseman (and my player), Dane von Gucci, fired in a slapper from the point to knot the game up at 3 a piece. Unfortunately, disaster struck as Michael Scotch slipped in the game winner past Blunt Man with just two seconds left on the clock. Not the way I wanted the game where I scored my first career playoff goal to go, but it was just fun to be there and involved with the game.

7) I recently watched Day 7 of the SHL Season fifty-seven playoffs. And boy, was it ever an exciting one to feast my eyes on. Starting off, I have to say that I loved the video package to start the games off. That just really got me excited for the games. Starting off with the game seven between the Winnipeg Jets and the Edmonton Blizzard. I had already heard about how Winnipeg had been down three to nothing in the series, so watching Goku Muerto score the game winning goal with only six seconds left in the period left me absolutely gobsmacked; to the extent that I went back and watched the previous games in the series. The next game up of course was the game seven between the Chicago Syndicate and the Manhattan Rage. It too was a pretty tense game, going to overtime, with Gunnar Soderberg scoring the game winner with sixteen minutes and nineteen seconds left. Of course, the main thing that I learnt through watching these games is that whoever runs the Simulation Hockey League’s youtube page is really good at jinxing teams.
