Zeagle’s Draft Grades part one
Hey everyone, in the article I will be grading the first round picks of the most recent SHL entry draft. My criteria will be based on both the user and the player, as well as how they fit into the team. With the first pick of the draft, the Tampa Bay Barracuda select Luc Blouin, D, from the Detroit Falcons. User: DrunkenTeddy Grade: A Luc Blouin was the presumed first overall pick in the SHL entry draft from the second Teddy decided to recreate. Teddy is one of the best users in the SHL; he has been around for forever, is great with the sim, and is all around a very cool guy. I am of the opinion that you can not call the first pick of the draft a home run, but this is about as close as you can get. Tampa Bay posted a dismal 17- 46- 3 record last season, amassing just 37 points while allowing a league leading 295 goals. That is 41 more goals allowed than the second worst defensive team in the league. As a player, Luc had 6 goals and 21 assists for a total of 27 points. He had a plus minus of -6, owing to playing for a not great falcons team. Additionally, he had 37 hits, 29 takeaways, and 39 shots blocked, which are all solid numbers for a rookie defenseman. Obviously, this pick was for the user and not the player, but Tampa Bay still got a player that will be a solid piece for them for many seasons to come. I know Tampa Day entertained the idea of trading back in the draft, and honestly with the amount of holes their roster has, getting a couple more firsts over this draft and the next might have been the best option for them for long-term team building, but that’s just how great of a user Teddy is. With the second pick of the draft, the San Francisco Pride select Gregory Goode, D, from the Anchorage Armada. User: Keenan Grade: A Two picks, two recreates off the board. Keenan is another power suer with a long, successful history in the league. He won the S15, S16, and S28 Challenge cups over his illustrious career, and just added a four star cup win this season with Anchorage. Additionally, he is a hall of fame member on the site. San Francisco was another team with far more holes in their roster than draft picks, so a trade down here could have been advantageous here for them as well. However, with a locker room that’s as empty as San Francisco’s is, getting a fantastic user to help turn around the team culture is valuable far beyond what his player is worth. I heard somewhere that half of The Pride is inactive? Probably stretching the truth a little, but Keenan will be able to come in and be part of the new regime’s solution. On the way to a four star cup, Gregory Goode scored 7 goals and had 32 assists for a total of 39 points. Impressively, he had a plus minus of +36, one of the highest out of all the rookies. He was impressive on the power play, scoring twice and adding 11 assists. He mustered an impressive 181 shots on goal this season; if he can keep that same volume while improving slightly, he could be in for some very high scoring seasons in the minors. With the third pick of the draft, the Baltimore Platoon select Mew Two, F, from the Quebec City Citadelles. User: zeagle1 Grade: B+ The first forward off the board is also the first new user to be selected in the SHL entry draft. Also, it’s me. Honestly, this might have been a bit of a reach. Baltimore was the lowest scoring team in the league last season, so drafting a big name forward will hopefully fix that in a few seasons. Mew Two had a pretty meh season for the Quebec City Citadelles, scoring 7 goals, and assisting 11 for a total of 18 points. Mew Two also added 28 hits, 13 takeaways, and 32 shots blocked on the defensive end of the ice. He played primarily on Quebec’s fourth line, which limited his impact throughout the season, but he did shoot an impressive 11.5% while averaging just under nine minutes of ice time. While Quebec City’s season ended 5 wins short of their goal of winning the four star cup, the team still had a fantastic season. Mew Two looks to be getting a bigger role next season, and hopefully his stats will continue to grow. I was gonna write the stuff about myself in third person but that’s weird so here we go. I’m an ISFL main; that was my first sim league and I am a DSFL GM, which is the minors over there. I am also heavily involved with the leadership of my ISFL team as well. I also was an expansion GM in the SCFSL (which you all should join), and I was co-GM for approximately a day in a cricket sim league lol. Anyways I said this pick was a bit of a reach because I imagine that I would have been available a bit later in the draft, as I had not really heard from the teams picking in the 5-7 range, and while I may think that I am awesome, plenty of people would suggest otherwise. With the fourth pick of the draft, the Baltimore Platoon select Noel Blanchet, F, from the Colorado Raptors. User: JT3 Grade: A- Back to back picks for Baltimore, back to back forwards taken. JT3 is a veteran user who is now starting his second player. His first player, Jon Toner, was a defender for the Los Angeles Panthers from S38 to S57. Noel Blanchet is a center who hopefully will help solve Baltimore’s problem with getting the puck in the net. He lit the lamp 7 times last season and assisted on another 24 goals for the Raptors. Despite tallying 31 points, his plus minus was a measly -5. He had a goal and an assist on the power play, while also earning an assist while short handed. Impressively, he had 99 hits and 44 shots blocked, showing that Noel is truly a two way forward. Colorado might not have had the best season, but Blanchet was one of their high points, showing why he is deserving of a high draft pick despite his team underperforming. JT3 is a great user on top of being a max earner, he’s already shown up in the Baltimore locker room and made a positive impact; he is cheerful and active, which is exactly what a rebuilding team needs out of its users. JT3 will of course spend a couple more seasons in the minors, but he will be a key piece of Baltimore’s rebuild and looks to have the makings of a top line center once he hits his prime. I give this pick an A- solely because he is a little lower in TPE than the other top picks, but after a couple more seasons of earning it will be negligible. With the fifth pick of the draft, the Hamilton Steelhawks select Dogwood Maple, F, Maine Timber. User: Dogwood Maple Grade A+ Alright, I love Dogwood; he’s one of the coolest dudes I have met in sim leagues. We first met in the ISFL, and then I drafted him first overall in the SCFSL as well. I am pretty sure he is successful in the PBE as well. He has been a first round pick everywhere he has gone and is absolutely the definition of a sim league power user. Dogwood Maple is a center for the Timber currently. He scored 10 goals and assisted another 10 for a total of 20 points. His plus minus was an even 0. Perfectly balanced as all things should be. He had a pair of power play assists. Impressively, he shot 11.2% on almost 90 shots on goal, so if he could keep close to that efficiency on a higher volume, he could have an MVP or two to his name by the time his juniors career is finished. He also had 47 hits and 47 shots blocked. Dogwood Maple is a very well rounded forward who could have gone first overall in a season with less recreates in the SHL entry draft. Hamilton is one of the best teams in the league and the fact that they get to add such an amazing user is quite unfair. I hope they had to give up a lot in this trade, because even if they did it would have been worth it. The Hamilton GMs absolutely hit a grand slam with this pick, and it earns the first A+ of the draft. That’s all for part one of the series, stay tuned either alter today or tomorrow for part two of it! Code: 1501 words S58 Elias Armia Award Winner
