Hello SMJHL community.
It has come to the attention of SMJHL HO that both @Gwdjohnson and @Wearingabear have recently violated the rules. The SHL Rulebook, Section II, Subsection J, Rule 4, reads as follows:

Personal attacks, excessive/malicious trolling, spamming, language/rhetoric that includes hate speech (ex. racism, homophobia, ableism), or any comments made that belittle members of a certain religious, ethnic, or oppressed group will not be tolerated.

With specific inclusion of subsection a:

This rule applies to all online spaces that involve the SHL, including SHL-related Discord servers. While HO doesn’t have a presence in all SHL Discords, Site Members are encouraged to report infractions of SHL Conduct directly to HO, or to their SHL/SMJHL General Managers who can report on their behalf.

As a result of their behavior in conjunction with this rule, SMJHL HO has decided on the following punishment for each of Gwdjohnson and Wearingabear:

Loss of full GM pay for S58
Probation for two full seasons on any conduct or behavior related offenses

We understand that the standard precedent for this punishment would be a 1 week forum ban for both, per the rulebook in II.J.4.c and examples such as “jRuutu/Acsolap Punishments” from 11/21/2020. However, as these members are both the GM and the Co-GM for an SMJHL team, such a punishment would be overwhelmingly crippling to the duties and needs of the team. As we have found in the past for other punishments regarding SMJHL teams, see “NL Punishment” from 10/30/2020, this would cripple a team at the expense of new members. As such, we have instead elected to fine both for their full GM pay and place them on a two season long probation for conduct or behavior related offenses.

Please make no mistake, both individuals are not receiving lesser punishments due to the positions they hold for now. We reviewed well over a dozen punishments dating back over almost a year to make an accurate replacement for the forum ban, and wish to express that SMJHL HO harshly condemns the actions of these users.

We hold our GMs and Co-GMs to a high standard, and expect the absolute best behavior from them. To see them supporting and engaging in behavior, that was asked to stop by SHL HO, detrimental to the experience of another user, behavior poor enough for the user to remove themselves from the SMJHL, is both incredibly disheartening and frustrating. In the most plainest of terms, this is unacceptable. The J is dedicated to promoting growth, involvement, and interest in the entire SHL community. When the leaders of our teams are working directly against those goals, SMJHL HO will rectify that to the fullest extent we are able to.

As always, both Gwdjohnson and/or Wearingabear may appeal this to the Owners.

This was not a case of hate speech of any sorts. As stated in the last major paragraph, this was supporting and engaging negative behavior that has also been punished today. See Ragnar Punishment.
