Good Things come in Threes

KTEX Sports -

The first third of Eric Hudson's third season on Texas' third line is off to a remarkable start, including 4 three point games. Although typically known as a defensive specialist, the former Brandon Holmes Defensive Forward of the Year award winner is collecting points at just over a point per game rate.  Currently sitting at 25 points in 23 games, putting him on pace to hit around 72 points.  That would be a tremendous increase over last seasons career high of 42.

Hudson jumped out of the gates notching 3 assists in the first game of the season, a 5-0 win over Minnesota.  Hudson was awarded the second star in that game.  Hudson picked up his first goal of the season in his next 3 point game, game seven against the Baltimore Platoon.  Eric picked up a goal and two assists in the 7-4 win and was awarded first star honors for the game.  Eric's next three point game was lucky game number 13, which saw 13 goals scored in a 12-1 rout of the San Francisco Pride. This time picking up two goals and an assist, including the game winner.  Ironically, Hudson did not collect a star award from this game, due to his teammates who scored 5 points (Potts) and 4 points (Williams and Kekkonen).  Hudson's most recent three point game was game 23 against New Orleans.  Hudson managed to collect his second career SHL Hat-trick in the 9-1 romp.  Eric was awarded first star in that game as well.

Hudson has also collected three other multi-point games, notching 2 assists in Game 2 (5-2 win over Minnesota), 2 assists in Game 8 (8-2 win over New Orleans) and a goal and an assist in Game 18 (3-1 win over Winnipeg).

Hudson's fellow third year teammates are also having remarkable seasons so far.  First round pick Edward Williams has notched 35 points in 23 games leading the team in points.  Fellow second round pick Burlock Sulfurgold has scored 21 points in 23 games, nearly hitting a point per game pace.  All three players are also well into double digit +/- with Williams at +22, Hudson at +23 and Sulfurgold at +17.

Will the third season be the charm for these players? It certainly seems to be the case.  Texas should make a deep playoff push this season and having these players now with experience will only help them as the move on. Stay tuned for more fireworks from Dallas in the coming weeks!
