SEASON 58 ANAHEIM OUTLAWS

The Anaheim Outlaws are trudging along in the beginning of Season 58 of the SMJHL this year as best they can.  With a massive rookie rebuild in action, the early part of the season has gone fairly accurately in terms of expectations.  Anaheim doesn’t look great compared to the rest of the league right now, with a few exceptions, so we shall compare them to each other by means of a Fantasy analysis.  A little competition among the teammates for fun...

Based on stats of the first twenty-one games played this year each player will be graded on a fantasy-style system of analytic.  The totals are then divided by the number of games played.

The grading system is as follows:

Goals Value= 3 points
Assists Value= 2 points
Plus/minus Value= 1 point
Penalty minutes Value= 0.5 points
Power play Point Value= 1 point
Shots on Goal Value= 0.5 points
Hits Value=0.4 points
Shot Blocks= 0.4 points

and for Goalies:

Wins Value= 3 points
Saves Value= 0.25 points
Goals against Value= -1 points
Shut outs Value= 3 points

Let us begin...

Outlaws Arturs Tumovs is currently playing left defense and is one of the rookies for the Anaheim Outlaws this season.  After twenty-one games he is showing great progress and making his presence known with a fantastic defensive rating of 70. The future is bright for this one.

Outlaws Julian Cunningham is currently playing left defense for the Anaheim Outlaws.  One of the few d-men who is not a rookie and also with one of the best plus/minus records on the team. Cunningham fills a depth roll, or at least he will in the future once the rookies pass him in training and development. Also he’s still waiting on that elusive first goal of the season.

His current stats are:

Outlaws Walter Burke is currently playing left-wing for the Anaheim Outlaws.  He is the super stud forward of the team and the bright spot in an anticipated non-lustrous beginning to the season. His offensive rating is outstanding but unfortunately is a victim of the rookie defense with a negative rating so far.  Always a pleasure to watch strut his stuff on the ice.  Hopefully he can maintain his 22 % shooting percentage as the season goes on.

His current stats are:
Goals: 8

---------------------------------
Total= 74.2
Points per Game= 3.53

Outlaws Sekai Wollker is one of the rookies playing left defense for the Anaheim Outlaws this season.  An acceptable overall player, Sekai definitely needs to work on the defensive stats in order to be completely effective. All in all, coming together quite nicely as a defensemen of the future and the future of the Outlaws. Cursed with a low shooting percentage, Sekai is going to start finding the net one of these days.  Hopefully.  Or at least start blocking more goals if not scoring them. Why not both?

His current stats are:
Goals: 2
Assists: 7
Plus/Minus: -13
Penalty Minutes: 20

---------------------------------
Total= 54.6
Points per Game= 2.60

Outlaws Bob Duncan is currently playing right-wing and is another one of the Anaheim Outlaws rookie core.  Bob is a young and well-rounded player so far.  It’s early in his rookie year but he seems on a nice pace to be a contributing member of the offensive team in the very near future.  Expected to be one of the most improved by the end of the regular season and a force once playoffs start.

His current stats are:
Goals: 1
Assists: 4
Plus/Minus: -8
Penalty Minutes: 6
Power play Points: 0
Shots on Goal: 14

Blocked shots: 5.2
---------------------------------
Total= 23.4
Points per Game= 1.15

Outlaws Shirakai Fubuki is currently playing right-wing and is one the Anaheim Outlaw’s rookie additions.  She’s actually a solid player for being so young and her numbers are obviously plagued by her plus/minus rating.  In time as she improves her defensive stats a bit she’ll even out and once the rookie core improves to have her back a little more as well she’ll show a much better number.  She’s showing a very impressive shots blocked number with 26 so far which is showing that she’s not afraid to jump in when necessary.  Almost a shoe-in for most improved player if she keeps going hard with training.

Her current stats are:
Goals: 1
Assists: 3
Plus/Minus: -22
Penalty Minutes: 12
Power play Points: 0
Shots on Goal: 23

---------------------------------
Total= 20.5
Points per Game= 0.98

Outlaws AJ Tirrell is currently playing right defense for the Anaheim Outlaws.  Another bright shiny new member of the rookie squad this season.  He’s showing some solid newcomer stats that are are nothing to be ashamed of.  Playing the power play as a rookie he’s holding well with 2 points so far with the man advantage.  This shows great faith in his abilities for a rookie.  He will be a part of the Anaheim defensive wall in the future and his growth will be exciting to watch.

His current stats are:
Goals: 2
Assists: 6
Plus/Minus: -14
Penalty Minutes: 9
Power play Points: 2

Outlaws Hubert Andrews is currently playing centre for the Anaheim Outlaws.  Another stud forward for this team whose experience and dedication are apparent. Solid numbers across the board with, of course, the exception of his plus/minus rating.  As the Anaheim defense as a squad gets better so will this stat for Hubert.  A star player who will lead the youngsters into the future and hopefully a dynasty franchise in his wake.

His current stats are:
Goals: 6
Assists: 6
Plus/Minus: -8
Penalty Minutes: 10
Power play Points: 1

Outlaws James Hagan is currently playing left-wing for the Anaheim Outlaws.  A veteran winger, he’s guiding and moulding the rookies as best he can while still ensuring that his play is up to his own standards.  Really good numbers across the scale for James, including one of the only positive plus/minus rating on the Outlaws.  His insane number of shot blocks tell a reason for this positive value and his ability to take one for the team. A solid player who shows up even if it’s behind the scenes with hits and shot blocks.

His current stats are:
Goals: 3
Assists: 6
Plus/Minus: 2
Penalty Minutes: 10
Power play Points: 0
Shots on Goal: 28

Outlaws Anna Maier is currently playing right-defense for the Anaheim Outlaws this season. A solid player who has escaped the curse of the low plus/minus rating that is bothering most teammates. She’s a solid depth player that the team needs right now and will continue to be so as the rookies continue to gain momentum in the future. No complaints from this player as she continues her junior career.

Her current stats are:

Outlaws Thomas Rose is currently playing right-wing for the Anaheim Outlaws. An absolute sniper whose 7 goals and a shooting percentage of over 30% are helping bury pucks when the team needs it most.  An average all-around player who fills a role that every team needs and does it for Anaheim consistently.  While his tenure may not be long in Anaheim, his contribution is appreciated.

His current stats are:
Goals: 7

Outlaws Kaapo Kampainen is currently playing centre for the Anaheim Outlaws.  An absolute delight to watch as this guy is a power play beast.  Dominating with the man advantage and still pretty freaking amazing at even strength too.  Lots of shots and shots blocked, this guy is everywhere when he’s on the ice and likes to grind away at the opposition’s players for creating his own chances. He’s carrying the weight of the rookies right now and hopefully they can pay him back when the time comes.

His current stats are:
Goals: 5

Outlaws “Long” John Donair is currently playing right-wing for the Anaheim Outlaws.  The veteran junior is looking fantastic so far in the early part of the season.  Solid on the power play as well as the penalty kill his special teams are jumping in to take advantage of situations.  While not very often in a winning cause, time will only make this player better as the rookies catch up to his skill level and he can benefit from the play-making defense.  His constant energy is much appreciated.

His current stats are:

Outlaws Matej Winters is currently playing left-defense for the Anaheim Outlaws. A free-agency rookie signing, Matej joins the vast rookie squad already a little into the season but his numbers already show he was an excellent acquisition.  While the numbers are not huge yet, the team will watch this rookie with baited breath as he continues to settle in.  He could potentially be one of the greats in the future and shows incredible enthusiasm to catch up to the other rookies.  His elusive first goal is likely not far away as he continues to rush with the play and is becoming a steady d-man on the power play.

Outlaws Videl Valor is currently playing left-wing for the Anaheim Outlaws.  Another one of the rookie crew who will potentially wreck opponents in the future.  He came out thumping with four quick goals and shows great potential to be a speedy player with quick hands.  Being more of an offensive specialist, Videl will be a great contribution to the team by the time playoffs roll around.  His training and development are inspiring to the other rookies and the whole team will benefit from his skills.  His numbers are only going to get better as the team gains more and more chemistry and he finds his place in the ranks.

Outlaws Jack Micro is currently playing centre for the Anaheim Outlaws.  Another rookie addition from the draft, Jack is off to a slow start but there is nowhere to go but up.  His training and dedication to improvement will keep elevating him each and every week and by the end of the season, he will not even look like the same player.  His first goal is going to be a celebration as the entire team is cheering for him to shoot the puck more often whenever he’s on the ice.  He’s also been daunted by the plus/minus team curse but his numbers will definitely get better. He is an important part of the future in Anaheim and is greatly appreciated in the locker room.

Outlaws Ryuuji Kawashima is currently playing centre for the Anaheim Outlaws.  Another rookie on the team, but this guy barely shows it.  He should most definitely be considered for rookie of the year and when the draft to the SHL comes around he should realistically go in the top three. He’s that good. His training is top of the league and he shows improvement weekly to an already outstanding rookie season. His contribution to the team, both on and off the ice, has been outstanding and he will most assuredly be one of the greats in the seasons to come.  Both in the SMJHL and the SHL.  An absolute delight to watch this future Hall-of-Famer from the beginning.

Outlaws Max Muller is currently playing left-wing for the Anaheim Outlaws.  Another veteran of the junior league, Max shows up to play every night and contributes greatly with his offensive output.  Not shy to shoot the puck from anywhere, his point total of 11 so far is nothing to scoff at.  A depth forward that any team would be happy to have and though his training has been sporadic as of late, his addition to the squad is not unappreciated.

His current stats are:

---------------------------------
Total= 60.1
Points per Game= 2.86

Outlaws Istawp Puques is currently the back-up goalie for the Anaheim Outlaws.  Another rookie on the team but he unfortunately bears the brunt of the rookie weaknesses on defense.  He’s a trooper though and knows that as the rookies get better, they will be able to stop more pucks from coming through and his stats will only get better.  It’s a hard grind for this guy but he seems willing to learn from the losses and will only get better in the future. The rookie squad will be a different crew by the end of the season and this guy included.

His current stats are:
Saves:  260
Wins: 1
Goals against: 31

Total= 37
Points per Game= 4.63

Outlaws Vincent Mietitore is currently the starting goaltender for the Anaheim Outlaws.  This guy is a stud of a goalie who has already ventured up into the SHL a few times this season. His patience in the juniors is exemplary as he hold his best with the rookies in front of him.  He’s the pillar of the team though his stats currently do not reflect what an incredible netminder he really is. In time the rest of the team will catch up to him and carry him to higher levels.

His current stats are:
Saves:  456
Wins: 5
Goals against: 42
Shootouts: 0

Outlaws  Outlaws  Outlaws

And so,

The Anaheim Outlaws have quite the deficit to make up in the league this season but it is most definitely a season of growth and development. With so many rookies, what else could it be? The current activity and dedication of the team will only lead to greatness later on.  It likely won’t be this season, but next season this will be a team to be reckoned with.

Another fantasy-style analysis will be done later in the season to contrast and compare the levels of improvement by all players. The team will almost definitely not even look close to the same, but we shall see what the future will bring.

Outlaws OUTLAWS! Outlaws
WOOOOOOO!
