(This post was last modified: 03-11-2021, 12:36 PM by leafs1997.)

A look into the performance of the S58 Berserkers rookie class on and off the ice.

Forwards

Left Wing - Robert E. O. Speedwagon - 13th Overall
TPE: 279

Speedwagon has 4 goals and 14 assists on the season to pair with a +11 rating in an average of 13:12 ice time. Though his shot hasn't been falling at a great rate, with only a 5.33% shot percentage on the season, Speedwagon is a top prospect who will be turning the heads of a lot of SHL teams come draft time due to his potential.

Center - Robert Black - 25th Overall
TPE: 247

A late entrant to the draft, Black has shown steady offensive output on the 4th line, racking up 11 goals and 11 assists on the season in only 8:47 ice time per game. Black is a polarizing prospect as the potential is clearly there, but many detractors say that it is unlikely he will ever reach the highest level. Only time will tell.

Right Wing - Slavakov Vladimirashenko - 47th Overall
TPE: 262

The man with the name no one wants to type has done well on the 4th forward line this season, picking up 16 points to go with a +9 rating. He's also not afraid to throw his weight around with 50 hits on the season. Vladimarashenko was a steal for Newfoundland so late in the draft and has a promising career ahead of him.

Center - Samuel Savage - Free Agent
TPE: 210

Samuel Savage is a little behind the rest of the class, signing up just before the trade deadline. In 32 games he's scored 1 goal and notched 4 assists. Most importantly, he is showing a desire to improve. Expect him to make a big impact for the Berserkers next season, and possibly become a steal in the SHL Draft.

Defense

Left Defense - Aleksandrs Balcers - 1st Overall
TPE: 289

Aleksandrs Balcers was selected ahead of everyone in the draft and he's proved why already this year. Racking up 27 points, the most among rookies on the team, so far he has shown himself as a great offensive threat. In addition to that, his +39 on the year is good for joint 4th in the whole of the SMJHL. Balcers is a great all rounder and will be one of the first names to go in the upcoming SHL Draft.

Right Defense - Sabarro Torretta - 32nd Overall
TPE: 232

Sabarro Torretta has found a home next to fellow rookie Aleksandrs Balcers on the blueline and has been performing tremendously. His +34 rating is second only to Balcers on the team and he has an impressive 82 hits so far to go with 19 points. Bizarrely, he has only blocked 4 shots all season. Torretta has had a tremendous rookie season and will be even better going into the playoffs and beyond.

Right Defense - Pasta the Turtle - 36th Overall
TPE: 273

A huge steal for Newfoundland, Pasta has shown tremendous improvement as a player throughout the year and is developing at a rate you don't often see from someone drafted as late as he was. On the offensive side he's managed only 11 points so far but the defensive side is where he shines. He has the most hits on the team with 108 on the year, and the most shots blocked among Berserker defensemen with 53. He'll no doubt be drafted much higher in the SHL Draft.

Goaltender

Goaltender - Evgeni Petrov - 15th Overall
TPE: 260

Evgeni Petrov is the top goaltender prospect in the upcoming glass and has shown great growth as a player in his first year in the SMJHL. He's made 19 appearances so far this season with a tremendous 12-6-1 record as a rookie. In those 19 games he's managed to pick up 5 shutouts, only 1 less than the Berserker's number one goalie Hugo Gronroos has managed in more than double the games. With a save percentage of 0.890, there's still room to grow but Petrov is showing he will only get better with his work ethic.
