SHN: SHL Mega ReDraft
Welcome to Day 2 of the SHN’s SHL Redraft. Today, we have Round’s 3 and 4

***Not sure if this has been mentioned previously, but since we began this journey in January, we had a number of players that were picked that ended up switching positions like Guy Zheng, Jack Kanoff, etc. To handle this situation, we allowed the Owners the ability to change these players positions, or keep them in their original drafted positons.***
Welcome to Round 3! Here we go! Will we see some more surprise selections? Will keygan be waiting another day? Tune in to find out! Also I as too lazy to add colours today sorry, maybe tomorrow!
Round 3, Pick 33: Team Sparky
Selection: D - Samuel Michaud
Reasoning: DEFENSE wins Cups! You need a player like Samuel on your roster and his ability to pass the puck around and get you 30 plus assists with eaze! He will give you 200 shots on goal and still get over 120 plus hits a season, his ability to read the offense and defense so well, and his overall ability to pass the puck is something I like to see. He will get the puck to your shooters who can put it in the back of the net.
Round 3, Pick 34: Team Fishy
Selection:Coach - Faelax
Reasoning: DT was a consideration here, but out of respect for DTs lack of input to Hamilton strategies I decided to go in a different way. Fae is a dedicated tester, helping QCC to a superb season, and is someone that can get along great with known LR cancer WBF.
Round 3, Pick 35: Team Sve7en
Selection: F - Bobby Lane
Reasoning: I, as well as many others, had S50 players as some of the top guys to pick up, specifically the 6-some of Adam Barron, Bobby Lane, Akira Ren, Samuel Michaud, Ryan Shepard, and Aron Hernadivic. With Barron and Michaud off the board already, Lane was the easy pick for me. He was my top forward in the draft and is immediately someone that can play both 1W and 1C while also wearing the C on the ice and in the locker room.
Round 3, Pick 36: Team Gabe
Selection: F - Steve Harrington
Reasoning:Lime is a great first player to pick up. Super active Discord presence and crazy TPE earner who is definitely going to make it around the top all-time. Awesome piece to build the team around
Round 3, Pick 37: Team Muted
Selection: City - Detroit
Reasoning: What other city to start my franchise in then good old Detroit, the place where I started my SHL adventures a few seasons ago. Fanbases are what make or break a hockey team, and in Detroit we've had some of the craziest times. While it could be argued that a home city has zero effect on the ingame sims and thus my teams performance, I really wanted to not miss out on this one. Detroit has always been good to me, and I feel like the city on its own can attract talent and breed a positive lockerroom culture.
Round 3, Pick 38: Team Reid
Selection: F - Ryan Shepard
Reasoning: After solidifying my GM team, I wanted to start picking up players. My goal was to have a really strong S50-55 core of high earners, complimented by a few vets with some younger players to replace them before long. With that in mind, I chose Shepard as I wanted to solidify my center depth first. He is one of the top 5ish earners in S50, a center, and at the time of drafting already 1800ish TPE. Good user, and a really solid piece that will be a top line center for the next 5-6 seasons, and if he continues fighting regression, a roster piece for another 4-5 after that.
Round 3, Pick 39: Team JY
Selection: F - Elijah Jones
Reasoning: Jones is a player that is easily hitting 2k, just about to hit his peak and could even make the top 10 all-time tpe leaderboard. Meanwhile as a user, Toivo is a former GM that our somewhat younger management team can get advice from at times who is respected and well liked all around.
Round 3, Pick 40: Team Jeff
Selection: F - Aron Hernadivic
Reasoning: I would marry Fish if I could, one of my favorite LR presences even though he's inactive over in ISFL. Not to mention he's one of the better earners in a stacked draft class.
Round 3, Pick 41: Team Fae
Selection: D - Augustus Wang
Reasoning: Wang is one of the best young defenseman in the league, I could see him picking up a Stevens or two before he calls it quits
Round 3, Pick 42: Team Luke
Selection: CO - TommySalami
Reasoning: Someone that can help coach with Fishy in a pinch, he is also a people person that helps keep the LR together, and he has been doing a great job in Edmonton for a long time. He also pairs well with JY.
Round 3, Pick 43: Team Nham
Selection: CO - JNH
Reasoning: I think in some ways I picked both the similar type but also relatively different types of management leaders. JNH is more than capable of being a head GM in his own right, demonstrated by both his success as an SHL GM much earlier on, but also most recently in helping to create the most vibrant junior teams from basically nothing. The fact that their skill sets in asset management, long term vision as well as interpersonal skills in being somebody people want to play for are simply having more of a good thing. A lot of teams look to have equal partnerships in management despite the title and I think this is one of those examples. Neither hotdog or JNH will feel like they have the significant burden in any one area and can rely on each other
Round 3, Pick 44: Team Arkz
Selection: D - Akira Ren
Reasoning: The first piece of the defense corps, and it's a good one. Akira Ren is a great player, still with some years left, and comes with a great user to boot who has experience building championship teams.
Round 3, Pick 45: Team Puff
Selection: Coach - DrunkenTeddy
Reasoning: Who better to be your FHM coach than the man who orchestrated the entire move to FHM for the league?
Round 3, Pick 46: Team Hordle
Selection: D - Cassius Darrow
Reasoning: Building defense doesn't happen overnight. But it can if you take the top TPE guys and throw them together. Darrow is a great player and they'll only add to my team.
Round 3, Pick 47: Team Boom
Selection: F - Eko Van Otter
Reasoning: Hotdog is an extremely talented player and a great user for the LR, plus he has GM experience to help out in the war room.
Round 3, Pick 48: Team SDCore
Selection: GM - Eggy216
Reasoning: Eggy has been one of the most consistent and prolific users on the site for a really long time. As a GM he touts one of the most impressive rates for Win%. His recent dip in activity is due to being overworked, but I approached this more as a legacy draft and if he was good once, he would be good again. If you can get a Hall of Fame GM in the 3rd round would you not?
Biggest Surprise:
Fishy: I think it’s Corey taking Eggy for me. Although Eggy may have been a legendary user at one point, their activity right now is non-existent. Is Corey banking on Eggy being less worn out if they are only a GM and not a commish? To me, their ability to remain active is too big of risk to be named a GM.
Reid: I think Darrow going off the board this early was a bit of a shock. Darrow is and has been one of the top defenders in the SHL for a while now, but that is the problem…. Darrow is a S45 player who at the time of drafting was already 3.5 seasons into regression. Darrow will be in that 1800 TPE range for several more seasons, I just think I would have preferred to take a top earner from a draft class in the early S50s or late S40s rather than investing a 3rd in an older player. Obviously its not that bad of a pick cause the user behind the player is great and Darrow will be useful for a long time, just not as long as someone a tad younger.
Sve7en: A city being taken this early. I think I came into the draft valuing city and branding more than most, since a good one will have locker room and free agency effects. Even as someone that likes the city in real life though, I can’t defend the pick of the city this early when some of the top skaters on the board are still there.
Shuff- Samuel Michaud at 33 to Sparky. I’ve been killing Sparky here, but I don’t like his pick again. S50 is the right slot, but I feel he needs a forward here. Even if he’s going defense, I give Akira Ren a good hard look as well. He also desperately needs a coach for these guys soon, how do you take 2 top defenders and a goalie and score goals?
Mutedfaith: Me being the only one valuing a city or franchise this highly was a surprise. I knew most of the others would probably not go for a city or franchise early, because of the lack of effect it has on the sim, but I never expected to be the only one to have one of them locked at this point.
Jeff: My biggest surprises would have to be the city of Detroit going this early, or SDCore choosing to take Eggy this early. Obviously Muted is someone who has connections to the city of Detroit with the Falcons, but I don’t think anyone is dying to join a team in Detroit at the moment. With so many more popular “hockey” locations I think Detroit just felt like a mediocre city at best. Similarly, although Eggy may have been a legendary user at one point it feels like a lot is being banked on a user who is fairly inactive at the moment. Maybe in seasons past, but not a risk I’d take this early in the draft.
Biggest Steal:
Fishy: Hard to identify steals at this point. There were a lot of good selections. Hair was someone I was hoping I could get, but Gabe stole him from me. Sadge.
Reid: I think puff got a steal with DrunkenTeddy as a coach. He was someone I was shocked that was falling, and someone I was going to pick the next round to scoop him if I could. Teddy is a legend on site, but is also a tester for FHM, and knows that thing inside and out. He knows tactics, and is obviously super smart. Getting him after so many people slept on him for GM, CO, and other coach spots is huge. Good job to puff for recognizing it and snatching him up while he could.
Sve7en: Outside of Teddy, which has been covered in two blurbs and Reid’s steal bit, I don’t think there was much for steals here. It’s easy to define what the top players are going to look like, and most of the remaining picks are rounding out front offices with individuals who weren’t generally given top 2 round grades. I think Faelax could have been a 2nd round pick as coach though, so I’ll go with that.
Shuff- TommySalami at 42 to Luke. I was originally going to CO with Luke until I couldn’t do it, but we spoke about Tommy in the second round. Tommy has done a great job in EDM- he managed to field a competitive team despite having a 12M cap hit on him.
Luke - For me, the biggest Steal is hard because there are a lot of players that are about to reach their peak and playing well. So you want a player and user to build around, as they reach their peak you want to build the core around that, and I think the steal would be Aron Hernadivic or Bobby Lane. I would choose Aron Hernadivic because Fishy is a lot more of a LR presence. So you want to build around a player with a great player and a great LR presence.
Mutedfaith: Definitely Drunkenteddy as a coach, going 45th to Team Puff. Everybody knows Teddy, and his skills with the FHM. And not just in sims or testing, but in the development side of it as well. And he’s a great lockerroom guy as well, always looking out for what’s best for the team.
Jeff: I would probably have to go with DrunkenTeddy or Steve Harrington here. DrunkenTeddy is as stable as any user in the SHL and doesn’t have any plans going elsewhere in the future. Having him in your LR helping out management is a huge plus given his knowledge on the site and FHM in general. He is certainly a great foundation piece who can help get a franchise off on the right foot early on.
Lime is one of my favorite users on the site who’s always active and talking, add the fact that his player has been earning at an insane pace and you’ve got a great piece to kick off your franchise. Although it may be a little early for S53s to go off the board, Lime may be an exception.
ROUND 4
Round 4, Pick 49: Team SDCore
Selection: CO - Teztify
Reasoning: Tez here is an easy choice for me. You are building a future and to grab another HOF GM in this round really rounds out my management team. Tez is hyper active, good with the locker room, he knows SHL backwards and forwards. He comes into this with good skills on rules, games, hockey, and really is a good locker room shaper. Where Eggy would be a quiet team builder, Tez is my go get him, build locker room guy.
Round 4, Pick 50: Team Boom
Selection: D - FR Finn-Rhys
Reasoning: One of the best defensemen in the league already and he's only getting better, FR can easily anchor a back line.
Round 4, Pick 51: Team Hordle
Selection: D - Oliver Cleary
Reasoning: Another top defenseman to lead the team. Defending is a goaltenders best friend like I said before. Oliver will slot alongside Darrow to be a shutdown pair.
Round 4, Pick 52: Team Puff
Selection: F - Mika Kandinsky
Reasoning: Again, building from the top down. Kandinsky is an often-overlooked forward due to the Toronto North Stars being overshadowed by the other Great Lakes teams (not this season - look at the season Kandinsky is having!) but the best forward in the S48 class is a great franchise center to build your team around.
Round 4, Pick 53: Team Arkz Selection: F - Lallo Selman
Reasoning: In building this team from scratch, the goal was to build a brain trust of players who also have some experience behind the scenes. Lallo has been dynamite on the ice, and BDonini has helped mold Newfoundland into a perennial powerhouse in the J's. While this hopefully won't lead to too many cooks in the kitchen, the war room for this team is looking strong.
Round 4, Pick 54: Team Nham
Selection: F - Mitchell van der Heijden
Reasoning: Bloos is one of those forces that somehow is both a veteran of sim leagues yet has incredible energy still day-in-day-out in being active in every corner of various leagues. Locker rooms, forums etc.
Round 4, Pick 55: Team Luke
Selection: F - Cal Labovitch
Reasoning: It's a no brainer pick for me for my first forward of the draft, someone that is young, great user, and can carry an offense for a long time to come. He is the start of the core I want to build around. A player that is young enough that wont reach his peak for another 2 seasons, when the core reaches its full potential, and something to build around for the future.
Round 4, Pick 56: Team Fae
Selection: D - Sven Yxskaft
Reasoning: I decided to secure my top defense pairing of the future, Yxskaft is another excellent young defenseman who will patrol the blue line for years.
Round 4, Pick 57: Team Jeff
Selection: D - Bjorn Leppanen
Reasoning: Nothing crazy here, already have the user as my Co-GM, big fan of the player and his build as he can be a defensive anchor for a long time here.
Round 4, Pick 58: Team JY
Selection: D - Jukka Timonen
Reasoning: Great user who is extremely smart and will help drive our team forward that way, meanwhile also a great player who as a S53 is still super early in his career and already lighting it up and should continue to do so for a long time.
Round 4, Pick 59: Team Reid
Selection: D - Adam Scianna
Reasoning:With my first pick of a center out of the way, I realized a lot of teams were picking defenceman. I saw a player/user that was still on the board that I liked - a S52 player top 5 in his draft class - and pounced. Scianna is one of the best young defenders, and is still miles away from regression. At already 1600 TPE, he is a top line quality defender, and someone I can sharpie into my top line just as long as I could sharpie Shepherd in from my previous pick.
Round 4, Pick 60: Team Muted
Selection: F - Rhys Pritchard
Reasoning: For my first player pick, I wanted to go with someone who could develop into a face of the franchise. Preferably someone I knew and talked to on the site or on Discord before. I decided to go for a fellow S52 player: NotoriousTRON. TRON is a fantastic user, always active on Discord, has a fun podcast and while I've never actually shared a locker room with him, I'm quite sure I am going to love his LR presence just as much as I love being in other Discords with the guy. He's also one of the top earning S52 players, which is obviously going to help my team on the ice as well for a few seasons to come.
Round 4, Pick 61: Team Gabe
Selection: F - Ryuuji Minamino
Reasoning: Nham is only a bit behind Lime in TPE while also being the same class as him, and is similarly a very active Discord presence who will pair very well with Lime, with both of their players having spent their entire juniors careers together in Newfoundland
Round 4, Pick 62: Team Sve7en
Selection: F - Alexander Wachter
Reasoning: MP7 is a former teammate and a long time site veteran. Wachter is an absolute stud and he and Lane will be an incredible combo for the next decade.
Round 4, Pick 63: Team Fishy
Selection: F - Guy Zheng
Reasoning: Zheng was the top earning S46 D remaining, and as a first-gen is likely going for a HOF Career and so will likely fight off regression for a long time. He gives me someone that can eat minutes like he has in Atlanta, or play a strong offensive role like he has previously in Hamilton. ***Originally drafted as a defenceman, I'm exercising my ability to allow Zheng to position swap to F. Zheng gives me an absolute loaded addition to my forward corps as will be shown at the end of the draft.***
Round 4, Pick 64: Team Sparky
Selection: F - Michael Scarn
Reasoning: Hands down one of the best players in the SHL. His ability to score the puck will be a site to see for my team.
Biggest Surprise:
Reid: To me, it is Corey selecting Tez as the CO for his team. With most people already have selecting their GM duo, I think that the pick could have been better used on any of the young S50ish studs that went this round. Tez is obviously a site legend, but to be quite honest - most of the people participating in this re-draft weren’t around when he was a prestigious GM. That means Corey could have probably waited until much later in the draft to pick him up, and it feels like he missed out on the opportunity to pick a young player here.
Fishy: I would agree with Reid, I think Corey could have waited on his selection of Tez, especially with a lot of the GM and CoGM positions already being filled.
Sve7en: Lallo Sellman, and other older players such as Michael Scarn, going in the top 64. I think the format of this project takes away from their value, by a substantial amount. I worry about the ability for older teams to maintain long term success here and wasn’t considering picking up older players for a while, keeping an eye on my team’s average TPE over the upcoming 8 seasons (how long it takes for current prospects to hit their peaks and for max earning SHL rookies to fall below 2000 TPE).
Shuff- Bjorn Leppanen at 57 to Jeff. Not because this isn’t a value pick, but if he’s your Co-GM as it is, why wouldn’t you look to add someone who can add to the LR?
Mutedfaith: A Co-GM being picked in the 4th round was a surprise to me. A lot of teams already had their management lineup completed, so I fully expected the people who hadn’t picked both a GM and Co yet to leave them for a lot later and go all-in on players first. I’m sure Tez would still have been available in a round of 5-6 for picking, and SDCore could’ve gone for a star quality player at this point. Another surprise was so many S52 and S53 players going in this round, with a lot more people going for the future build strategy than I expected.
Jeff: My biggest surprise here would probably be SDCore’s decision to go with Teztify here. No offense to him, but I do think I could see him going later on in the draft and while there were quality players on the board I don’t get the decision to go with a user who would probably still be available a few rounds later.
Biggest Steal:
Reid: I think Minamno is the best pick this round. One of the top earners in the S53 draft, He is basically the same TPE/prestige as Lime, but taken a round and a bit later. Nham is great as a user, and I thought he would be off the board a lot earlier. This round has a lot of solid picks, but I am surprised he wasnt a little higher up. I considered him, and would have picked him if I wasnt sold on picking a defender.
Fishy: To me, it might just be Jeffie getting Pouli’s player at 57 overall. Many of the elite earning S50 players like myself, Lane, Wang, Barron etc. have all been selected much earlier. Puoli was a steal when he was as second round selection to Texas back in Season 50 and is a steal again this draft. With how valuable the S50s were being treated in this draft, I am surprised to see Puoli slip this far.
Sve7en: Mitchell van der Heijden was a top 10 player on my board, the 6th forward, and who I was targeting in this round as it kicked off. I think getting him as the 10th forward in the draft is insanely good value for Nhamlet. Season 51 guys are going to operate similar to Season 50, and Blues is right at the top of that class with Zoone and Dankoa.
Shuff- Sven Yxskaft at 56 to Faelax. I love Yxskaft as a user, and he’s been rock solid for New England. He’s young (S52) and is growing. Being a GM in the league means it is hard to see him losing much activity. He leads his draft class in TPE. He should be looking for offense next and a good coach soon, but with that defense- Yxskaft and Wang- he is in a good position.
Luke - For me, I would put Tez as the biggest steal. If you are taking GM’s at what they were, then Tez was one of the best GM’s in the league, but 6 years ago. This was before the times of discord, so getting a group of guys together through Chatzy or whatever, and creating a good LR that won 4 cups, 4 presidents trophy over 18 seasons is a massive achievement for anyone. If you are picking the GM at what they were, Tez would be my steal.
Mutedfaith: I’d consider Mitchell van der Heijden the biggest steal in this round. Bloos has built a great player, is very active and involved and an overall great guy for any lockerroom. He’s S51, so not quite at his peak yet and should be around for a few more seasons. A lot of S52 and S53 players going in this round, but I’m sure more people were eyeing Bloos’ player as a possible pick.
Jeff: Similar to one of my steals from last round. I really liked the Nhamlet pick here, you’re getting a great earner who does a ton around the site and will be on your team for seasons to come.
Surprised to see Samuel Michaud considered a surprise by anyone at 33. IMO he should've gone sooner.
Nhamlet got a steal with Mitchell van der Heijden at 54. Great user, high tpe player, with his entire career ahead of him.
I'm also a bit confused as to how Sven Yxskaft wasn't taken sooner. On pace to be one of the highest tpe-earning players ever if I'm not mistaken, and comes with a very smart and capable user attached. Great long-term piece.
Really interesting read yet again, and I'm happy to see some of my fellow North Stars get taken here (Lane, Mika, Rhys)
