Commissioner Turtle Lord NEVADA BATTLEBORN MANAGEMENT MEDIA AVAILABILITY
Newly-minted Nevada Battleborn GM Alex Burrows - yes, that Alex Burrows (@SecondSucks22) and Co-GM Oliver Christensen - just some guy from Nevada pretend you've heard of him (me) - are now available for media questions, presented by Sam's Town Hotel & Gambling Hall. Please make sure you are wearing shoes and pants, and please speak clearly into the microphone with your questions. Quote:you became the co? since when? and how did he manage to trick you to do everything?OC: Ten days ago, and don't worry, I knew exactly what I was getting into. Quote:What are you most excited about as GMs?AB: The first thing im most excited for is just seeing where sköldpaddor and I can take this team. Its had a moderate amount of regular season success in the past, but im hoping we can deliver the first championship to the desert. OC: I'm very excited to work with uh, Alex over here, I'm looking forward to really making good use of our individual strengths. He's got the business brain and I personally think I have some good locker room skills that I hope will really help us build a thriving, active LR. I'm a big believer in getting that off-ice environment solidified because I think that's such a huge component in any successful team, and the people stuff is generally where I'm strongest, so I'm really looking forward to drafting good people and good players to build this team into a championship squad. Quote:What are you most worried about as GMs?AB: Fucking up, honestly, neither of us have that much experience in a league where there is turnover. Between that, needing to learn the engine, and trying to do our damndest to keep players active and involved, its going to be an effort, if not just for a little while. OC: Yeah, I'm mostly uneasy about my limited experience with the sim. The locker room stuff comes pretty naturally to me but when the numbers get involved, that's where I'm shaky. Quote:What's the direction for the team?AB: Up, only place to go from 12th. We have some solid plans in place in terms of drafting and where we would like to go with this team. OC: Yeah, like he said, only one way to go right now, and I think we're already headed there even in the short time we've been here. Quote:What's for lunch?AB: This is the hardest question here, and truthfully I dont know. Need to do groceries OC: The blood and bones of my enemies. Quote:Top-3 things that you look for when scouting a player for the draft? What about when scouting for a trade, do you look for the same things?AB: First and foremost we are looking for people that are active, in one way or another, whether its in their updates, or just being around the lockerroom. We also look for people that have drive, people that want to see the team do good things. you look at our DFA pickup in Sebster and he is always around when we are playing and looking for ways to improve based on the sim, thats what we like to see. Third is just trying to get people who get along with eachother. One of my favourite things when i first joined was having that sense of community with my J team, and I would like to provide that to other people. In terms of scouting, we look for the best fit, whats a trade that works out for both teams? You look at our trade with Kelowna at the deadline, the #1 team in the league got top end talent, and the #12 team got draft picks, and bodies. OC: Seconding basically everything he said here as well. Activity is the biggest thing. We're all here to have fun, and so much of that is locker room chemistry. You want people who are going to show up, and people who are going to build each other up, no matter what that looks like, so that's always going to be my priority. It's a lot easier to help somebody build a good player than it is to create a good personality out of thin air. Quote:Thoughts on the 66 game schedule, any pros and cons? Could we play more? EtcAB: Its a balancing act really, You want enough games to keep the rookies involved, but you dont want so many games that DFA's get bored. You also dont want to try and best of both worlds it by putting more games in each day, because that could be hell on the simmers, who sometimes spend the better part of the day simming for both leagues. With the addition of a sim team, it might be nice to get some more games, but thats for smarter heads than me to decide. OC: Agree there as well. All about the balance. Quote:Nevada finished last in the standings, more or less as expected, or did the team have more in it?AB: If im honest, any lack of success comes from me mostly. Coming into GMing I had no experience with FHM and had to learn, meaning we had a couple days with no line changes. You can see as the two or so weeks went on we started to do better, and thats because of some tweaks, but with being sellers at the deadline, offloading capped talent, and bringing in a DFA goalie who we want to give all of the games to, we werent surprised with where we finished OC: I'm going to actually disagree here - I don't think this really reflects on Alex's abilities as a manager, but it's an expected side effect of having a young team that's in the early building stages. I came into this very late in the season, so I personally didn't have any crazy expectations for what we'd get done in that last singular week of the regular season, but I'm very excited to see where we go moving forward. Quote:Anything you want to change about Nevada?AB: Well right now we are in the middle of changing the logo so that we can start selling merch. The only other thing is the drafting strategy. Looking back at past drafts there has been a focus on recreates, and we would like to start getting some fresh blood in the org OC: Yep, the logo refresh is the biggest thing on the immediate horizon. I also am entirely on board with trying to bring in some fresh blood. I think that we have a unique perspective there as a GM duo, given that both of us were true rookies in our draft class and have both either just recently finished or are about to finish our first go-round at this and recreate for the first time, I think we're at a really good spot where we're both fairly well-established but we also still have some of that first-gen energy to bring to the table.
