Day 6 of the S59 IIHF Round Robin leaves us with some very important games left in Day 7, the last day of the round robin! Team Great Britain needs to win both of their next games to keep their hopes of an elimination round spot alive, and Team Czechia can dash their hopes if they win their game against Team Austria. Team Norway and Team Sweden face off to determine who sits on top of Group A in a head to head match, and Team Germany needs to win in order to beat out Team Finland for the elimination rounds.

A goaltending duel occurred in this game, as Scoochie Stratton and Harry Carpet put on a clinic. Both goalies had shutouts (Stratton 36 saves, Carpet 39 save) all the way to the shootout, where Tony Pepperoni’s goal put the Germans over the top to win the game.

Team Russia completed the comeback as they were down 3-1 in the third, and won the game in overtime off a Mika Kandinsky breakaway as a broken play led to a pass from Alex Petrenko to spring Kandinsky, who completed his hat-trick in this game. Kandinsky was also the scorer for the equalizing goal at 18:04 of the third.

Team Ireland pushed Team Canada hard in this game, as they scored four goals, and nearly made it to overtime. Keith Lee had an egregious hooking misconduct in the first which Team Canada took advantage of for a power play marker, but Team Ireland returned the favor in the second as Corek Kennedy hammered home a shot from the point. Stan Q. Next gave the Irish side a little bit of hope, but unfortunately Frans Eller denied further chances.

A close game until the end, as Team Japan and Team Sweden traded goals until the third, where Henrik Lekberg Osterman continued to show his game-winning ability by scoring the game-winning goal one minute after Taylor Johansson put the Swedes up by one. Monkey D. Luffy led an offensive effort late in the third, but Team Japan could not finish the comeback.

Team Austria got their first win this tournament as Alexander Wachter scored two goals on the power play out of three power play goals overall for Team Austria. They peppered Kata Vilde with 49 shots, and kept Team Latvia on their heels for much of the game.

Team Sweden opened strong in the first period with three goals in a row - two from veteran Ola Wagstrom, and one from Joseph Fantobens. Both teams also traded penalties in the first period, as things got a bit heated. Team Finland’s Michael Fitted scored in the second period, but Emilia Bergman had an unassisted heroic goal effort in the third to put the Swedes back on top. ZOltan Topalo scored another goal for Team Finland, but there was no further offense for a comeback.

CAN 2 - JPN 5

Team Canada finished their tournament with a disappointing loss to Team Japan. Theo Morgan had a pair of game misconducts during this game, totaling 24 PIMs, putting Canada at a disadvantage as they lost one of their best players for the most part of the game. Team Japan’s offense was very efficient in this game, scoring 5 goals on 22 shots.

Hope these short recaps help you guys keep up with IIHF action!
