"Hi Drakocarr, can I pick your brain about something real quick?" Talls asks pulling me from practice. "Of course" I say nervously following him up the stairs of the Anaheim Outlaws practice facility to his office. He gestures towards a chair, "relax you're not in trouble I just wanted to talk to you about some tactics and strategies for your defensive pairing; here have a seat." "Oh okay what's up?" I ask relaxing a little bit and sinking into the large armchair sitting across from Talls. "Well I've really loved what I've seen from you out there in pre-season. You've been doing great leading the team's defense in points and holding your weight defensively on the top pairing, I really like what we've been seeing out of you, what do you think we could do with deployment tactics for our top defensive pairing of you and Samuelsson to try and improve production even further?" "Oh I know the exact thing Mr. Talls, I've been working on my skating more I just need the greenlight and I'll be pinching aggressively and jumping into the rush a lot more. In the past I've always tried to stay back so I don't get burned on the ice, now I feel faster than ever and I'm ready for more offensive responsibility."

I hope that our tactics is kinda how I do it. I parnter a sniper with a playmaker and a power forward or checking forward depending on the lines. For the defenseman part I would like to pair up either offensive defenseman with a defensive defenseman or two way defenseman. I think that our tactics what ever we decide to do would be amazing. I feel like I have a lot to improve on and hopefully will get the handle of eventually. I want to be paired up with a defensive defenseman because he possibly does stuff I'm bad at in my game and could help me out. I want that chemistry to happen where people are helping other people out with there games so that we can do better I want there to be more of that formation going forward hopefully I found that to win many a championship and hopefully we use that formation and use it for our benefit.

I am building Lesgo as a pure skating scorer. I would like to compare his build to that of McDavid, Gretzky, and Bure. I want the skating ability to really open the scoring chances and shooting to be what finishes off the goal. I would have to give the credit to my GMs Talls and TakeTheHorizon on their great job of implementing me in the lineup. I feel they have found a great fit for me on the second line with O'Byrne and Malone. O'Byrne being a two way forward and Malone being a shadow it gives me the spot to be the scorer on the line. They do a great job setting up a quick exit from the D zone and great positioning in the Offensive zone to really help my skills shine. I am excited for this year and to see how well our line stands against the rest of the leagues second line.

So Jack Cuff does whatever the team needs of him. If he is needed to help back on defense he will, if he needs to skate his ass off to get to the other side of the ice to accept a breakaway pass and score goals he will. The tactics are simple. Put him on the PP and put him on the PK. Jack is built to skate circles around his competition he is one of the fastest skaters in the SMJHL already(ok maybe not but for pt sake) He may not have shown his full potential so far this season but give him time he will be shining in no time. Jack is going to be good on the PK because he has decent defensive awareness and you match that with his speed and IQ for the game he'll be stealing the puck from just about anyone.
Late in the game you usually have your best skaters on the ice but when the team is down 1 goal and the goalie gets pulled its nice to have a guy like Jack primed and ready to go get that game tying goal. The energy he brings to the ice is amazing and it helps bring the team together.
Currently though Jack Cuff is playing like dogshit and needs to step it up, hopefully it will turn around for him with time.

I'm on a line with two good shooters in Steve Collins and fellow rookie Konstantin Strelka. Strelka and I are already about average SMJHL skaters, but Collins is a poor skater who is still learning how to spell defense. He's apt to plant himself near the faceoff circle looking for a one-timer. I should try to dig the puck out from behind the net or in the corners and try to set these guys up for scoring opportunities. We aren't tremendously skilled, so I'd try a dump and chase game on offense.

On defense, Strelka and I need to try to make up for Collins defensive lapses. None of us three forwards are very experienced or disciplined yet, or I'd consider trying to play a neutral zone trap. Our team is getting badly outshot in the early action and we need to hang on early in the season while we are still learning.
Hopefully we're out on the ice with an experienced defensive pair. Mars Stanton is our best defensive defenseman and seeing him step over the boards with us would bring a sigh of relief.

This is all early though. Lines will likely be tinkered with throughout the season. I'm taking the season in 6 game segments, looking for gradual steady improvement.

Rookie Tim Riggins was brought into the coaches office right before the opening game of the season. He was told to forget everything his line did during pre-season as it no longer applied. "Tim " they said " your job, YourONLY JOB, is to hit every last player on the ice. You're a big boy and we want you to use that size and body-check every last player on the ice. The goal here is to injure as many players as possible. The more you injure, the better our chances of winning. Don't worry about the other guys on your line. They have to get the puck and score, but you, just hit people. If you don't then we may have to send you out there with no stick just to make sure." Once that made sense to Tim, they told him he would be on the penalty-kill and his job was not to hit people but to block the puck by any means necessary. Oh well.

Much to Lacksamus's surprise, he's putting in first line minutes with none other than Akashi SixNine Jr and the esteemed Monsieur Pingy Pingu Lunga Gumba, Esq at center. With Detroit's rough results last season we are trying to play a more refined game on both sides of the red line and put more pucks at the net. While Ivan isn't much of a strategist, he's focusing on getting back to the basics and playing a 200 foot game and putting pucks at the net. Our locker room is full of healthy and eager people that want nothing more than to go out and put their best on the ice day in and day out.

Preseason had some ups and downs and now that we are getting into the regular season swing the Detroit team is looking to make some moves up the standings and show that we'll be a force to reckon with in seasons to come.

Starting off the season, TT wasn't selected for powerplay duties with Nevada. working the powerplay is the bread and butter of TT's skillset. After talking to management it looks like TT will get his opportunity to shine on the man-advantage. Using his unique gift of hockey IQ, finding open teammates with crisp passes. While not much of a goalscorer, TT excels at getting pucks on the net and creating rebounds. This is extremely useful as a defenseman to create rebounds for forwards to jam back into the net. There is always one player not being guarded due to the man-advantage, and finding that player is TT's specialty. Once the powerplay starts to heat up I believe that it will Nevada's secret weapon in the upcoming season as they push for a playoff spot in a competitive league. TT had five points in the preseason, so showcasing his offense there means he has to relate it to the regular season as the overall intensity heats up.

Lias has ended up doing pretty much exactly what he expected and hoped to do - he is filling a physical forward role currently on the second line, where he is matched up with the very talented Dave Heinrich at center and "trashman" Conner Snooks on the other wing (though he has put in some time on the third line with Wing Wang the winging wurmple opposite him). While he is listed at center as his native position, Lias knew from scouting conversations with Nevada management that due to the depth the team already had at center, he probably would not be filling that role immediately, and as such, has not yet focused on faceoffs as a center would be expected to. He has been given some direction in that regard - work on faceoffs slowly, but there's no rush there since he is more valuable to the team in a different role at the moment, so instead he has been focusing on developing some of his defensive play in order to avoid being a complete liability on the backcheck.

Nhamlet and The BEEG YOSHI himself sat in the Chamber of Tactics in the 27th basement floor of the Berserkers home ice rink. Denisova walked in frightened by the prospect of going into the chambers with a Yoshi as beeg as BEEG YOSHI. This however can be skipped, we can fast forward through the blood rituals as they do not matter.

“Your skills lie in your defensive ability Valters, we’re not expecting you to score much but we are expecting some good defense and passing plays. We’ve been scouting you for awhile and we think that the passing and defending you’re able to do is amazing and we just want even more of that.”
Nhamlet started out.
“I can do that, hopefully get some cheeky goals here and there” Denisova responded.
“Beeg.” BEEG YOSHI said with enthusiasm.

“Ah yes, you will be playing on the third line, you and the second line will get around the same out of playing time however, it’s not really a second and third more of like a, two and half’s you know.
You’ll be with King and Tightpants, those are two very solid offensive players so they should compliment your defensive ability.”

Denisova looks interested “What of i want to score?”
“BEEG”
“Then score you sexy motherfucker.” Nhamlet responded.

Ergo Nomic does not really pay attention. They shoot they score. But they keep the others from shooting and scoring more importantly. Why care so much when you just go out and hockey. The head general manager, 7, sat down with Ergo Nomic to ask them what role they would like to play. She did not like this she said. The defense role was not a good answer apparently. They block the shots, no goal goes in, that is all you need. The GM told me them they would be a shutdown defense man. They thought that was common sense. Stop puck ya know. Shut down the play. Ergo is not on the powerplay, but that is okay. Would not be smart when Ergo is so green, needs to work on their blue line wristers. Ergo Nomic is on the penalty kill team, which is common sense. Ergo is the best shut down defense man ever.
