I have to take this time to shoutout ML! I know he has been away from the site for a little while now dealing with some personal issues, but I feel like he deserves his flowers. I know we didn’t end up winning the cup or anything but taking a team who literally a joke in the league at the time and creating a final four team is huge. We all know how the rich get richer in this league, so building a contender from literal scraps was a GOAT move by ML. Our team at the time just couldn’t get over the hump but if people wanted to know how to rebuild in this league, take some notes from ML. I will forever be grateful for ML trading for me when EDM didn’t have room for me and honestly the trade kept me in the league. I don’t think I would have stuck around if I wasn’t playing and ML gave me the ice time and my first taste of the SHL.

In this case I will go on with my own GM duo in Texas. RCD and puoli have done a fantastic job so far in Texas. I can’t remember any trade they made, but to be honest, you don’t have to trade a lot if you draft as good as they do. And I only remember one free agent signing they made. But what they do great is the FHM things. Asking what people want to do with there players and try to find a way to get there together, as for now it paid out for them pretty well. Having now 2 champion chip banners under their belt. Looking at the actual team structure they may have a year or two time to get their hands a little bit into that trading thing that is going on in sim leagues to stay at the top for some more years. Thank you boys for all. 155 words

b. Be honest, would we have seen the same final 4 as last year (Chicago, Texas, Hamilton, Buffalo) had BUF/HAM and TEX/CHI not run into each other in the second round?
c. Hamilton has a population of roughly 5 people. Where would you relocate the franchise?
d. Who is the best player to NOT make the final in the past 2 years?
10/16 TPE

a. For the reason I never won a cup in the STHS era (2 game 7 losses in the finals) it’s very easy for me. FHM brought me my cups so it’s clear that I would say that the FHM cups are more worth, on the other hand STHS was more random and a cup win there wasn’t as predictable. 59 words
b. That’s for sure what would have happened again. Buffalo, Hamilton, Chicago and Texas have 4 great teams with GM’s that have good FHM skills. They haven’t been the highest TPE teams this year, but with management knowing what they are doing, they showed it once again. To be honest, we will likely see them again next year. 57 words
c. I have no idea how many people live in Hamilton, but I also really don’t care if it’s 5, 500, 5.000 or 5.000.000. Hamilton sucks anyway. So we better relocate them yesterday than tomorrow. To which city? I don’t care, I guess there are thousand of cities that are better than where they are now. ? 55 words
d. Wow that’s an easy one, thanks god only Hamilton and Texas made the finals in these years. Looking through the rosters and writing down names or going through the stats, we will find so many great players that stand out and didn’t make it to the finals. So, pointing out one would not be right in this situation. 58 words

13/16 TPE

Oh yes, this time you can believe me when I say we will not see another finale between Hamilton and Texas next season. Because nobody wants to see that for a 3rd time in a row beside the players from Hamilton and Texas. We are likely going to see the Baltimore Plattoons finally going all the way to the finals, just to face one out of Texas or Chicago or maybe with some luck Los Angeles. With the new regression rules the top teams will fall back a step and maybe have to take on step aside and let pass another team. But I am sure that the top 4 will not rest and try everything to stay where they are at the moment. I believe that we will see some trades or FA signings that secure their position once more. If they stay there next year again, it’s not their fault but we will be here again and complain about it. haha 163 words

Ham gotta be one of the better GM’s because he has three championships to his name as a gm, with two of them coming in the last three seasons. He has one of the best locker room environments to be apart of in the Newfoundland locker Room. The players he has drafted as well as the number of alums in the locker room make everyone feel welcome. Which is why Ham has been able to build a very distinct championship DNA in the newfoundland berserkers. Not only was it two championships in the last three seasons but it has been three finals appearances in the last three seasons as well. As well our last championship (being the one just won) we ended up winning in a sweep as well as only losing one single game in the playoffs. We ended up doing this when everyone thought we wouldn’t have been able to get to the finals this past season, but with Ham’s great drafting, and trading we did make it and we walking through our opposition on the way there. a. What is worth more to you, a cup win in the FHM era or the STHS era?

As I have only been in the FHM era then winning a cup in the FHM era is worth more to me. Yes there is some FHM luck that happens either for you or against you, and we have this unknown stat known as bravery FHM is still worth more to me because I havnt experienced STHS. (57)

b. Be honest, would we have seen the same final 4 as last year (Chicago, Texas, Hamilton, Buffalo) had BUF/HAM and TEX/CHI not run into each other in the second round?

Well where the SHL has had the same final the past two seasons, and the SMJHL also almost had the exact same final as last season, then it is possible that we would have seen the same final four for the SHL if they had not faced one another in the second round. (53)

c. Hamilton has a population of roughly 5 people. Where would you relocate the franchise?

Following the NHL as an example I would relocate Hamilton to Vegas baby. Lets see how that vegas flu affects the players of the SHL, could they do what the NHL version have not thus far? Also right there at the casinos lets open up SHL and SMJHL betting for every game not just the season. (56)
d. Who is the best player to NOT make the final in the past 2 years? Ryuuji Minamino he has led the league in points this season and was just out side the top ten in points the season before. It is unfortunate because he is on Chicago, not a bad team but just had to go through Texas and Hamilton in back to back years. Maybe next season he will make the finals and Chicago can make that push. (64)

In the not so distant future (s64), 4 Texas Hamilton finals in a row have seen most of the SHLers quit out of spite. Only a select few remain. Head Office reeeeaaally likes having 20 teams so they have now allowed every user to have 5 players to fill the void of everyone who left. Name your other 4 players that aren't your current player, select their positions, and decide their focus and path in the league. Postulate where they end up after the draft and how the players pan out.

Season 64, everybody has left the SHL because the same two teams have have been to the finals in the past few years. Only a few players remain which has allowed up to five players per person, who did I create you ask what positions do they hold? Well, I would make an entire starting line up of players, one goalie, one defense, and three forwards would make up the positions. With that starting line up only one defense would not be my player. The goal is to have all five players on the same team so I can combat Texas and Hamilton by myself.  My current player is Alexander Mackenzie, a forward the other players would be, Alexander Hamilton, Right wing, Alexander Graham Bell, Left wing, Pope Alexander on Defence and Alexander the Great, Goalie. This team will be a full team of Alexander’s plus one extra, all of these players would be drafted to the same team to make an ultimate opponent for Texas and Hamilton finally get another team to the finals, that will be all the players goals. If I had to pick a GM to call outstanding, I'd have to go with Tig. I had him originally when I joined the SMJHL for Detroit and then again in the SHL when Fred did his stint with the Seattle Argonauts. Tig was always engaging with me and it made me stay active in the league much more than I think I would have without him. Bringing me on to the Argonauts for their inaugural season really kept me with the league. I was inactive-ish at that point and probably was not going to keep participating, but Tig reached out to me and it convinced me to stay in. I ended up playing with Seattle for a few years before moving on to help establish the Philidelphia Forge as a new expansion team, where I still am to this day. But without Tig, I would have been out of this league a long, long time ago.

d. Who is the best player to NOT make the final in the past 2 years?

a. Definitely a cup win in the FHM era, cause that's the era we're in! Why should I care if someone brags about a cup win in the STHS era? The rules were different, the sim was different, and there was apparently a really broken way to sort of meme your way to a win!

b. I will be honest about this. I have no idea. I mean, it probably would have been the same given the outcome of this year, but I don't pay attention enough to know. That's about the best answer I can give without having a tool to look into alternate timelines.

c. Change from Hamilton, Canada, to somewhere in Baja California. All the teams would love to travel there for games, plus we'd be expanding the team into a whole new country, Mexico! Total wins for everyone all around. Branding would be super easy. Just call the new team Baja Blast and give them a greenish-blue jersey color. This post was paid for and sponsored by Taco Bell

d.Fred Wanesly, for sure. Really nice guy, has great hair, an excellent smile, is great at doing pranks, makes excellent bread, and is really just a fan favorite. It's a huge shame he hasn't been able to make it to the finals in any of the years he's played. By far the most deserving.

Yeah, I think parity is an issue in the SHL. I have a few ideas to help with this.
1: Abolish the SHL: Make a new league with a new draft where the draft order was chosen at random. A fresh start.
2. Abolish the SHL: Now only IIHF is allowed to play hockey.
3. Draft overhaul: The draft will no longer be conducted the way it has been. Now, a new ranking of draft-eligible players will be created. First, a player poll is done and everyone in the league ranks the players in order. This will be combined with actual stat-based rankings to form a new player ranking for the draftees. Then, the top-ranked player goes to the worst team and the next best player goes to the next worst team looping on until there are no more eligible players. Actually, I am not sure if that would work because you'd still end up having relatively high-ranked players go to the best teams in the league...

@hotdog is the greatest GM of all SHL history. He is currently managing the Atlanta Inferno into becoming the next hamilton and texas combined together. Our supremacy will make the SHL hate us for winning the next 10 championships. this team was built thru draft and thru acquiring top notch free agents like gwod and the clap. The towelie guy is the only bust drafted because he does not do his PTs tho :sadge: I think the locker room ambiance is also fun and provides additional commitment to the team and that is all on hotdoge and sometimes glutesy boy. He also does not hesitate to make trades to either make the team better now or to patch future holes in the lineups due to retirements. One time he drafted Nathan Explosion from an expansion draft and made him come back and be active for well over a year now. This is specatular leadership. (154 words)

There have been a lot of rule changes in the SHL. Where do you think these changes have gone right, where do you think they have gone wrong? Would you ever want to go back to a previous way of doing things? Do you think the SHL is fine as is?

I think the league's principles or basis are in a good state; complainers have much grievance about not much and to be honest I feel like they are the problem with the SHL but that's another subject. The SHL moved to a modern sim engine and was a good move, I think the FHM engine is the best right now for the league's needs and I'm confident should a case arise for a better sim engine the league will think about it. People tend to forget this is an equal opportunity league, and comapre it as such to the NHL where nobody is given the same opportunity, be it from their development, their weatlh, their support network or even their genetics. Much more variables are involved in real life hockey, where a sim engine can be solved easier since with the right group of earners you will then reduce the number of variables you need to work on (aka tactics). SO yeah, I think it is pretty fine as is and has always sights on improvement, I believe it.

It's a good thing Texas won because we need new champions other than Hamilton. Texas has won a couple championship too, but the hegemony is starting to weight heavy on other groups since it takes years of effort to even think about the cup and most others team cannot complete a cycle since users will leave their team to play for a powerhouse. Theres not much to say, kudos to the winners, you get to win a cup, hopefully you would also like a better challenge for years to come. I think with the new changes that could happen pretty soon, I also believe we are building something good in Atlanta so look out!

In your opinion, which team is on track to completely sell off all assets and begin a long rebuild? A few teams are already in the midst of this, but what teams are watching their window slowly close and need to get younger soon in order to start the climb back to the top?

I think a team that's on the slow burner is ironically the Steelhawks. They of course find ways to bring back talented players amongst their midst but they have an older core, the new regression will hurt them a lot and their godlike tactics shouldn't be able to carry them as much. I don't think they are yet at the point where they should liquidate their assets but they will at the very least need to carefully move some around to keep a window open or to aim for their next window. Buffalo, Bap, Texas, Chicago are all upward trending teams too as well as seasonal favorites and as such next year could be theirs over Hamilton. however they dont have an history of blowing up their team as prime players are always ready to sign there for a chance to the cup. To the despair of many, I think Hamilton will dodge the rebuild bug and keep striving for the next seasons based on their philosophy.

Czechia is totally gonna dominate the IIHF for this season. We have studs playing at every position. The in real life Czechia team also changed their name from Czech Republic to Czechia since they know how much we will dominate and they want their names to come up when an SHL team blows up on twitter. The GMs and coaches are planning god tier tactics to make us score at least 2 goals per game and not allowing more than 1 per game which is a winning strategy. Nobody can beat that. Angus McPiefp is gonna score hat tricks most games, like that Owen Power guy. Finland bad btw.

I think a couple in an FHM is much better than a couple in the STHS because in the old system it was just much easier to lock your way into a title without having to actually be good NFA champ your team has to actually be built strong and actually compete and actually stay together and actually just be good like they have to actually be good cause you can't beat a good team if you're a bad team this is not STHS where teams lock into shit

c. Hamilton has a population of roughly 5 people. Where would you relocate the franchise?
d. Who is the best player to NOT make the final in the past 2 years?

a. Kind of tough because FHM feels like it's more rewarding to building a solid team and STHS felt like it had a much larger luck factor. Honest a cup is a cup to me, attempting to distinguish them by era and/or propping one era up over the other is just a sign of a weird superiority complex and massive insecurity.
b. Almost certainly. Baltimore and Edmonton basically got free passes into the final four, nothing against them because Baltimore at least is a pretty solid team and they have a decent shot at becoming one of those 4-5 teams that can actually make the finals. But the current state of the league is what it is. Let's see what next year brings.
c. I feel like New York City is the obvious choice here. Even with a Manhattan team I feel like there is enough market their to go around and then some. Plus Manhattan being at the bottom of the standings for a decade I feel is enough to warrant something new for NYC residents to cheer for. I guess you could do New Jersey to avoid doubling up.
d. Probably Ryan Shepard. 82 points in one season, 93 points in the next, Shepard consistently performs with two back to back top 10 point finishes. But Chicago, even though they are one of the handful of teams that could make the finals, hasn't for a little bit even with the heavy hitters they have.

I think with these two teams it wasn't a dead giveaway that one team had an advantage over the other. Ham did sweep Tex last season, but obviously this season was a little different and Texas made it close enough to actually squeak out a 7 game series win for the title. All the jokes aside about parity and how we're seeing the same teams every year in the finals, it is nice that at least this time around the finals were at least a close battle as the amount of 4-1 finals we've had over the past 10 seasons is kind of insane when you look at it.

Yeah I don't think it does really exist, there are like tiers of it where you have realistically 4-5 teams that are contenders, 4-5 teams that are 2nd rounders, and another 4-5 teams that scrape their way into the playoffs without any realistic shot at getting further than the first round or maybe two if they have a lucky first round match up. The changing of these teams is a slow, ridiculously long process. A lot of what goes into this is the sim engine producing as consistent results as it does. It's so rare that a Montreal team will beat a Hamilton team, where as in the NHL you'll see bottom of the barrel teams "steal" wins from division leaders with relative frequency. The changes to regression might shake things up a bit, because a team will no longer be set for 10+ seasons from the same group of players. But the GMs that know how to play the game will still succeed, newer GMs that get into it with 0 guidance will have to learn through failure, and nothing will really change.

This will for sure be the season where USA actually gets a medal and I get some money. It's actually kind of wild to think how long it's been since USA has gotten a medal, and now more than ever there is a bit more parity in the IIHF it feels (this is feely crafty based, not based in any sort of fact), so it's going to be much more difficult than it has in past seasons.
Update: Well I checked the standings and sure enough, USA has dominated the initial round of games, losing only 1 so far with 9 wins. Lets see if that carries into the elimination round.

There are a lot of "could-have-been" draft picks in the SHL, but let's have some fun thinking about someone that busted hard. Write about their potential and where they were picked, and how that franchise could look *if* they had in fact panned out.

It is the end of season 62, and the New England Wolfpack has just won its 2nd consecutive Challenge Cup. Their captain, Matthew Sawful, skates up to take the prize. He lifts it overhead and screams in joy. The entire locker room is going nuts. He leads them around a parade on the ice before handing the cup off to the rest of the team. It is the moment where NEW has broken in to the good ol boys club as a perennial contender. Free agents are all itching to get signed to continue to turn this once middling team into a full dynasty. Hamilton is yesterday's news, it is all about the Wolfpack now.

Oh wait, that didn't happen at all. Matthew Sawful instead fizzled out in juniors due to lack of training. Rumor is, he was scared of having to go toe to toe with [Name Redacted] in the bigs, so he didn't bother showing up.

a. What is worth more to you, a cup win in the FHM era or the STHS era?

I'd say that a cup win in the FHM era is probably worth more. From what I have heard, STHS had a lot more randomness baked in, so you could sneak through and get a win on RNG. FHM seems to be way less swingy. If you are dominating the league, you are playing the game well.

b. Be honest, would we have seen the same final 4 as last year (Chicago, Texas, Hamilton, Buffalo) had BUF/HAM and TEX/CHI not run into each other in the second round?

We absolutely would have seen the same final four had the bracket not made this impossible. There has been little to no change in league parity, it is silly to think that any of the other teams had even a small shot of making it in. I am happy to see that there was at least one upset, though. Go FHM.

c. Hamilton has a population of roughly 5 people. Where would you relocate the franchise?

I would move Hamilton's team to the moon because I want them to play with extreme jet lag every away game. Also, they would be so used to the low gravity that they would suck ass in Earth gravity. This would at least give some of the other teams a chance.

d. Who is the best player to NOT make the final in the past 2 years?

I'd say that Pojo Biscuit has a good claim to the title of best player to not make the finals in the past 2 years. He's been holding together the defense in Seattle really well with his shot blocking and is scoring at a pretty good clip as well. He's got the potential to get that Seattle team to the finals.

hahahahahaha remember this task from last season? The one where everyone was like "nah we're good, tampa and BAP will be in the finals soon and you'll see that the old guard will make way for the new young teams". Now that we have the exact same fucking teams in the final again, let me ask, is parity an issue in the SHL? How do we combat this?

Yeah, parity is a pretty big issue in the SHL. It's not really going to impact the die hard sim fans or the people who have been doing this for multiple players and are deeply ingrained in the community...they are in and most likely going to stick around unless a comparable league comes to be. Having a parity issue is going to impact new player retention though, as those players are going to soon realize that they really have no shot at winning a cup unless they were drafted to a small handful of teams. You can hang around in a locker room and make friends without having a player or trying hard at the game, so motivation to really try and play the game is going to be low.

As far as how to fix it I suggest limitations on testing and devising a fair way to keep the same people from gravitating toward the same teams repeatedly.

d. Who is the best player to NOT make the final in the past 2 years?

a. A cup win in the FHM era is more important because in STHS shit was just random that sim was ass. FHM you actually have to have good players, coaching, builds, and have to work as a team to win. There is less parity so getting a win is harder and you actually have to be good.

b. Of course we would have because those are the 4 best teams in the league. Nobody else has the coaching of these teams and there is a reason they consistently reach the top. These teams meeting each other earlier at least gives somebody the illusion they can win. Poor baltimore has no idea.

c. I would relocate the franchise to the sun so that all of the players expire and Buffalo no longer has to deal with them like 60 times a season and then again in the playoffs. We would have like, a billion cups by now if hamilton did not exist. I mean Sol Steelhawks is at least an alliteration

d. The best player to not make the final in the last 2 years would be since like S51. I would say maybe Karl Krashwagen or Jimmy Slothface? They have MVP awards. Both with a lot of points on teams that couldn't quite make it to the finals recently. Most of the other top players are on one of the big 4 teams.

The final was actually a little exciting for once especially since Texas ended up winning. It went to 7 games and was not another sweep like last season. The teams traded blows until Hamilton went up 3-2 off of 2 straight OT wins. Then Texas turned on the jets and blew past them in games 6 and 7. I mean it doesn't get closer than a 7 game series with 2 overtime wins. Of course the league will be happy that Hamilton lost. Texas will be happy they were able to slay their demons from last season and establish themselves truly as a force to be reckoned with. Only Hamilton, Buffalo, and now Texas have multiple cup wins in the FHM era.

HO didn't feel like making a job posting for PT Director so they just put you in charge of picking the new one. So elect a new PT director, tag them, and explain why you think they'd be a great fit for the job. Or just someone you want to torture.

I would love to see @Clean Andrei Kostitsyn be PT director because I think his PTs would be very entertaining. I imagine some may even be completely illegible so it will be an advantage to berserkers to be able to decipher the prompts. We have already seen a championship week feature a question about sergei so there is precedent. We may see PTs about hitting people that andrei does not like, or things not about hockey at all. Generally they would all be interests of andrei, so maybe something like "describ time u camp with team. wat is u do? who u cook on fire." I can't wait for andrei the new PT director.

b. I'd say yeah, probably. You could definitely make a case for Baltimore - I mean, they did finish 2nd in the league and 1st in the conference, but then again that evidently means absolute fuck-all because they got completely demolished by Hamilton. I mean, seriously, they scored under a goal per game in that series. Somehow I don't think that result would be any different if they faced off earlier. Maybe they'd have a better chance against Buffalo, but when you eat shit that hard? I don't think so.
c. I think Milwaukee deserves a team. I know they used to have one back in, like, season 1, the Wisconsin Monarchs (well, I'm assuming they were in Milwaukee, but I don't actually know), but they moved to Vancouver in S3 (and then moved like 3 other times and now they're Tampa). From what I know about the state of Wisconsin (which isn't that much), they love hockey just as much as their Minnesotan neighbours, so they should at _least_ have an SMJHL team, right? I probably wouldn't move Hamilton though, too much history there. That'd be like moving the North Stars. (up to you to decide which team that's referring to)
d. I think it absolutely has to be Kelowna Knights legend, SMJHL All-Star defenseman Leons Briedis. (hey, you didn't specify that it had to be an SHL player!) I mean, he made it to the all star game, clearly that means he's really good, right? And his DGR, the most important of the stats, is absolutely through the roof (of a pretty small house)! Not only that, but he even got nominated for the Onoprienko a couple seasons ago! (let's ignore the fact that he didn't win it).

The matchup fucking sucked. Yay, another permutation of TEX/CHI vs HAM/BUF. It's even the exact same finals as last season. That said, boring as having these few teams consistently dominating may be, this series was an absolute banger. A 7 game cup final is always a good thing to see - it really shows that these are two great teams pushing each other to the limits. In the end, Texas came out victorious against Hamilton. Some would call it an upset, drawing attention to Hamilton's dominant victory in last season's final and how they'd only dropped a single game up until the finals - I don't really agree though, I mean, Texas was the better team in the regular season, and in Games 6 and 7 Hamilton just crumbled and let the title slip out of their hands.

Look, I might have ragged on the parity issues as well in a couple of my other CW tasks, and I am fucking bored of seeing the same 4 at the top, but I do still think it's a problem that will resolve itself with time. There are teams like Baltimore, who should already be cup contenders based off their regular season performances, as well as teams like Montreal and Winnipeg - teams in the middle of massive rebuilds who have managed to conjure up super stacked prospect pools. And, realistically, how WOULD you solve the parity problem? I honestly don't really see what could be done to combat it that wouldn't just be, like, punishing the top teams for being good at the game - which seems kind of against the whole point of trying to build the best team possible. I'm sorry if this is incoherent, I'm writing this shit at 2 AM with hours to go before submissions close, but really I don't see any way to fix this other than.. waiting a few more seasons. Eventually, the top teams will drop off. And, if they don't, the way I see it that's just amazing work from the GMs, they shouldn't be punished for being good at their jobs.

You log on to the SHL. Oh shit gotta do your Finals Predictions. Yay Hamilton Texas finals, love shl parity. Weird, the title says s61 finals predictions but its s62? But wait, all the PTs are labeled s61, we're on activity check #388, and no one is complaining about regression. You must have woken up back at the start of the S61 Finals! What do you do differently now that you know how the next season will play out. Change some of your casino bets? Predict some drama? Cheat at primetime?

I mean... You're effectively asking what I'd do if I woke up and it was 3 months ago. If I get the chance to do that, I'm not gonna just use that power on the SHL - though some extra TPE and money would be nice, and maybe I could finally have a season where I actually win TPE in fantasy, albeit realistically I'd still find some way to fucking finish fifth... but there's so much more I could do with that! The big thing for me right now is university applications. I've only just started, which is a bit of a problem since some universities end their admissions periods really fucking early for some reason - so I'm somewhat scrambling to get in the ones that I need to do as soon as possible. Also, like, cheating the SHL casino? Fuck that, how about real life sports betting! I'm betting all my money on Max Verstappen winning the F1 championship. Yes, there's probably something better than that to bet on, but that's just the first thing that came to my mind.

Task 1 - 3 TPE

Task 2 - 3 TPE (170/150)
MCP is an under-looked GM in Tampa Bay’s history. Tampa was in a pretty miserable spot after JSS resigned from the team–they were two points away from the President’s Trophy in S50, and outside the playoffs two seasons later. MCP saw an opportunity, sitting at under 40 points on the season in S52, to strip the team down to the absolute nub and build a prospect pool that could develop into a contender over time. MCP took the team down to nearly nothing, banking dozens of first and second round draft picks over the next four seasons, and created a locker room full of promising young players who would go on to be franchise players like Ambacas Cuddles, Dwight Knight, Panda Panico, and more. The league will remember MCP as the first GM in league history to pilot a team to a winless season, but the team will remember MCP as an architect that built a framework for the Tampa Bay locker room that grew over the next two years.

Task 3 - 3 TPE (155/150)
Leshaun King. This player was destined for absolute greatness in the SHL. All-star earning pace nearly 40 TPE over the rest of his class with nearly 1000 TPE in his call-up season, back in the pre-inflation era. The face of the San Francisco Pride’s S43 rebuild, even more so than Luke Thomason was at the time. Recruiting head. Graphics head. Leshaun King and their user, King, were as sure of a slam dunk pick as anyone could have made in the S43 draft. The only reason he wasn’t a first-gen first-overall pick in the SMJHL is because Jax Aittokallio was eligible. Unfortunately, some flames that burn brightest burn fastest. King went inactive nearly immediately after his call-up, despite helming and rebranding the then Halifax Raiders around a month prior. The user briefly returned as a Detroit Falcons prospect many seasons later, but Leshaun King faded away, peaking as a third-line center despite all his promise.

Task 4 - 3 TPE (170/150)
With my favorite punching bag, the Jack Crasher rule, finally dead in the ground where it belongs, next up are the salary retention rules. Salary retention in the SHL is so convoluted it is almost never utilized. Restrictions on the number of contracts a team can retain and the number of times a single contract can be retained make sense, generally. However, time from signing, time from salary expiration, and other similar restrictions make salary retention a tedious chore rather than a trade value tool GMs have available to make deals work. In a league where player movement is already minimal at best, easing these restrictions would enable teams on the bubble to buy up expiring assets and make huge impacts in the playoffs, or even double-retain certain players to make big splashy trades that are exciting to participate in and watch from a distance. As is, it generally isn’t worth a GM’s time to stress over retention, discouraging trades where a retained salary would benefit one or both sides.

Task 12 - 1 TPE
https://simulationhockey.com/showthread....pid3152616

Task 14 - 3 TPE (179/150)
It’s time for Calgary to sell off their aging players. Cale Amundsen is headed to Toronto, and while Roza will be an acceptable stop-gap it will be tough for him to hold the team over a full schedule. The core of Lilja, Izzy, Lafleur, and Valor are maturing acceptably but need time to become more than supporting players. Meanwhile, the top of the lineup is shackled to aging players that will be hit even harder by the new regression changes than ever before. Batsbak, Weston, Parmborg, Johansson, Roenick, and Kennedy Jr are about to face the most severe regression the SHL has seen in well over three years, a regression tough enough that some of the older players may decline all the way to bottom-six or bottom-four from their prior glory. Calgary doesn’t need to strip it down to the studs, but with their new core getting competitive and their old core aging faster than ever, it’s time to embrace the suck for a couple seasons and move their top guys before it’s too late to get a return.

I think there has been a lot of fantastic general managers in the SHL & we have been really fortunate. I think the best general manager I ever had was Wasty. He really put the team first & made sure we all felt welcomed & made the Panthers an attractive destination. I'm not sure just saying that because of how good he was at graphics which was a bonus but he made sure we knew he wanted us there & always made sure we had a good group of players. Even though we never brought home a cup together I still felt like I won with having him as my GM. He was able to keep me active & made sure I knew what I was doing. I think him being general manager for so many years & keeping the franchise active is one of the reasons I picked him for being the best. (154 words)

b. Be honest, would we have seen the same final 4 as last year (Chicago, Texas, Hamilton, Buffalo) had BUF/HAM and TEX/CHI not run into each other in the second round?
Yes I think we would have seen the same teams in the finals again because they continue to be the best teams in the league. The nice part is that we do have some random match ups that will cause an upset. However if its Buffalo then they can make the finals all the time & I'm okay with that. (60 Words)
c. Hamilton has a population of roughly 5 people. Where would you relocate the franchise?
If I could choose anywhere to relocate & it did not have to be in Canada. I would choose Las Vegas I think, somewhere fun for the players & there would be lots of attractions & tourists. I would probably make it the Las Vegas Flamingos if I had a choice. (51 Words)
d. Who is the best player to NOT make the final in the past 2 years?
Ryuuji Minamino is the best player to not make the finals in the past couple of seasons which is very unfortunate for him. He had some incredible seasons & lead Chicago in points for seasons. I think he could have the potential for playoff MVP if they made it. Hopefully he will get rewarded soon. (55 Words)

If you're in another sim league and are using 4 of those CW tasks here, you can do this task to advertise that league in your CW. What league is it? Is it fun? How does it work? What are the pros/cons of that league, especially in comparison to the SHL?
I am in the Pro baseball league & it is really fun. I have had a previous player there make the hall of fame on the San Antonio Sloths. I think just alone a team being named after Sloths is a great reason to join the league. The streams are fun & there are quite a few members who join the stream live. I'll start with the cons of the league, they still use JCINK & it isn't as user-friendly as the SHL & reminds me of before we made the switch over. The pros of the league are it's fast to get a decent player & they recently changed point task claiming into one post to make it easier to keep track of everything. I think it's pretty comparable to the SHL & if you're into sports you will love this league. The league has grown tremendously in the past couple of seasons. (154 Words)

It was tight af final series which ended to legendary game 7. Texas beat Hamilton at final game 4-2, so they definitely deserved named as champions. There wasn't clear winner for sure, when the series is as tight as that was. A. Wachter leads Texas to won, with Burlok Sulfurgold and Theo Kondos. Joseph Fantobens was clearly needle at Hamilton players ass, since he dominates hits count for whole playoffs. Cillian Kavanagh also beat A Jobin this time at goalie fight. It was definitely fun to see both active at Detroit locker room playing both sides of finals. Both of them definitely win it, this time it was Fantobens, congratulations to Fanto!

My country Switzerland have been sad performance last few IIHF tournaments. I hope that I could help my team to raise up and go at least to playoffs and to next stage. I want to point out @hotdog great work with Atlanta Inferno past few seasons. First of all they draft @Jepox at same draft when I got drafted to another team. Later they bought my rights from Buffalo and that price was free to Atlanta basically. Now they have TOP 3 and 4 at S57 class. Also we have @"sankrosankt", S56 class TOP 4. If we go to S58, there is "Z-Whiz" who is TOP TIER 1 at his class, then S59 there is "micool132", who is TOP 4 spot. Also there is @NorwegianDemon at 11 spot. Those players, including me will definitely be very great and strong core to Atlanta Inferno. I also love how @hotdog take me to part of the locker room and how greatly Nash bring positive vibes there, with Pesky boy and Korra of course! To me personally locker room athmosphere is one of the most important things. It's easy to say that I'm proud member of Atlanta Inferno and I will do everything to make our glory possible at future.

#21. I think a great PT director would be @artermis honestly. The guy loves the league and has a lot of good ideas. One thing he could do is work on using those ideas that don't get utilized in the league into PTs on a seasonal basis. This way HO could also get a lot of good ideas from the user base on how to improve the site and functionality as the ideas and input from the PTs come in. Maybe not the peak way to get the most useful feedback from the site as a whole, but at least something is on the way, and I'm pretty sure arty could lead a great PT team and get it done in a fun way that makes you think.

#19.   I do not believe I would change a thing I did so far. I think the moves I made as the general lama get in Montreal has really set us up for some success going forward, and the changes to regression may actually help and accelerate our window of becoming a competitor. Meanwhile, possibly looking to capitalize on acquiring a few more younger players, filling in the roster to take advantage of being able to sell in a market that would then look towards bringing more youth onto rosters as some of the older regressing players are now going to being to fall off in a much faster rate. The other change I would likely make is to not skip a couple PTs, as work anxiety got to me, but I have to remember that I do this for fun and I really should use it as a way to let off steam and not let this game stress me out too

#20. I am not actually using the cross league Point Task cash in but I will absolutely advertise another league I am super happy to be a part of. The league is based around having contracts that are paid out in TPE per game to it's players, and has no point tasks to speak of. There is one simple activity check per week, done on a simpler Google Form, and all of the updating is don through Google forms in a very simple manner. The league runs off the Axis Football engine, which has grown by leaps and bounds the last few years, Axis 22 being an amazing product that could rival Madden if they keep going. With 4 developmental league teams and 12 major teams, the league is always looking for more players. So if you enjoy American Football, come give us a try!

#6:

A: I think a cup win in either era is pretty important but with the absolute chaos that STHS could be, I think a win there is more fun honestly. Having a monopoly on builds and strategies cause people in your organization helped the transition to the engine doesnt seem like an even playing field to me.

B: I think Hamilton makes the Finals regardless, and Texas seemed destined to destroy anyone they came across, though they had to do it in dramatic fashion in the end, letting Hamilton believe they had a chance until they took games 6 & 7 back rightfully and acquired the cup in the name of the Renegades.

C: I'm trying to think of a place that can handle the brash and ignorant fans, players, and management team that comprises the Steelhawks. Sadly, Boston is already taken, as only New England Patriots fans are as oblivious to the obvious harm being done by their franchise to the league. I guess they'll just have to co exist

There are a lot of "could-have-been" draft picks in the SHL, but let's have some fun thinking about someone that busted hard. Write about their potential and where they were picked, and how that franchise could look *if* they had in fact panned out.
One of the biggest busts that I can remember during my time on the site was the classic story of King. This guy Leshawn King comes onto the scene and blows the whole site out of the water. He’s active all day every day and bringing all kinds of new ideas and projects to the site. The San Francisco Pride were looking to find a way out of a long rebuild and managed to draft King #1 overall, along with Luke a few picks later. They thought they had two franchise talents, but instead ended up with neither player in the end. King, while extremely active, butted heads with many people on the site. His arrogance and ego lead him to rage quit the site after being called out by many a folk, retiring King and disappearing completely. Luke was later traded away from the Pride to the Manhattan Rage, leaving San Fran empty-handed.

a. What is worth more to you, a cup win in the FHM era or the STHS era?
b. Be honest, would we have seen the same final 4 as last year (Chicago, Texas, Hamilton, Buffalo) had BUF/HAM and TEX/CHI not run into each other in the second round?
c. Hamilton has a population of roughly 5 people. Where would you relocate the franchise?
d. Who is the best player to NOT make the final in the past 2 years?
a) I haven't won a cup in either era. The FHM era is probably harder to win, with only a handful of teams claiming the cup. But honestly I think I would rather an STHS win. As a player, I just enjoyed the randomness/anything can happen factor that STHS had (pre Hamilton-break) that mimics real life, whereas an FHM win feels to me like it's more a product of a stacked team.
b) I don't think that anybody in the west could have taken down Chicago or Texas, however despite being biased I think Baltimore felt as though we had a chance to beat anybody in our conference. I don't think that you can say for sure that Buffalo would have beaten us had we matched up in the playoffs, so I disagree that those four teams would have been the final 4.
c) I actually didn't know that Hamilton only had a population of 4 people, I thought it was at least a population of 8 people. With this recent revelation though, I would definitely choose to move the team to Dildo, Newfoundland. I know that there is already a junior team located in Newfoundland, but the opportunity to come up with branding ideas for a team named Dildo is just too good to pass up.
d) Seeing as Chicago and Buffalo haven't made the finals the last 2 years, it would be hard to not choose Ryuuji Minamino and Steve Harrington as the two best players to not play in the finals the last 2 seasons. Both were top 10 players last season in S61, and both torched the league in S62, finishing top two in points.

Quote:12. Milestones, up to 3 TPE
Milestones are folded in with CW. So just link your Milestone claim as task 12 for up to 3 TPE towards your 16 total.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------

Post your claim in the milestones thread for tpe earned per stat, and then link that post in your CW submission. This is done because the person who grades CW will be a different person than double-checks milestones.

In your opinion, which team is on track to completely sell off all assets and begin a long rebuild? A few teams are already in the midst of this, but what teams are watching their window slowly close and need to get younger soon in order to start the climb back to the top?
The first team that comes to head right away is definitely Toronto. They built a good team on paper over there but could never quite pull out a Challenge Cup win. Now with some turnover in the front office there, we are seeing some major players leave Toronto. They should probably get ahead of things and start to sell off some vets while they can. I also think that New England needs to make a decision one way or another in which direction they want to go. They have a wide mix of aging vets, as well as some decent young players. However it doesn't appear to be enough to be able to win a challenge cup with what they have. I think they should start moving the average age of their core down by moving out some of the older players who won't be a part of NEW's next core, players like Finn Rhys, Slap McShotty, Jakob Bruchevski, etc.
