There have been some good and some bad GMs in SHL history. (Mostly bad) Pick a GM you think was outstanding and explain why you think they were one of the better GMs in SHL history. Point to trades/signings/trophy wins/locker rooms to support your claim.

My pick for great man is bojo. SHL was my first sim league and the then West Kendall Platoon was one of my first teams (after Kelowna in the SMJHL). Bojo wasted his fourth overall pick on me and I will forever be grateful to him for that. Although we lived a lot of heartaches with WKP, I’ve loved every minute I was on that team. He saw something in people and was able to draft amazing guys to create such a great locker room atmosphere. Yes, I would have liked to win a championship with these guys but the locker room was so fun that in the end it didn’t even matter (insert Linkin Park gif here). I don’t think I would be that much into sim leagues if I hadn’t landed on that team in the first place. It really showed me what sim leagues could do and be to me. I wish things had been different for us this time in Winnipeg but I do hope we get to share another locker room in the future.

6. Written, up to 4 TPE - Grab Bag: Pick up to 4 Challenge Cup related topics to write about! Each topic is worth 1 TPE. Each answer must be 50+ words.
a. What is worth more to you, a cup win in the FHM era or the STHS era?

What a strange question. A cup is a cup, isn’t it? In my case, I didn’t win in the STHS era and the way things are going, I probably won’t win in the FHM era. My only chance is winning in the FHM era, though, so I guess I’ll go with that one being more meaningful.

b. Be honest, would we have seen the same final 4 as last year (Chicago, Texas, Hamilton, Buffalo) had BUF/HAM and TEX/CHI not run into each other in the second round?
Probably. The other teams that are supposed to challenge these guys are getting swept by them so I’m starting to guess only these four are a threat in the offseason. We should just move all of them in the same division, geography be damned. Give the people what they want.

c. Hamilton has a population of roughly 5 people. Where would you relocate the franchise?
To an even smaller place, like Santa Fe or Albuquerque. I just really want to have an alien themed team because if I see one more animal themed one, I might shoot myself. And hey, we would get rid of one animal team, so I see this as an absolute win.

d. Who is the best player to NOT make the final in the past 2 years?

I pay zero attention to what happens in the league outside of my team, that’s why my CWs are usually homer paradise. I guess I will go with Ryuuji Minamino because he tore the league a new one and he isn’t on Texas or Hamilto. You go, Ryuuji. Although you could go a little harder to beat Texas and Hamilton.

Now that we have the exact same fucking teams in the final again, let me ask, is parity an issue in the SHL? How do we combat this?

Bro don’t make me cry like that. I don’t think the real issue in the SHL is parity at all. It’s all about sim knowledge. Hamilton just figures out how to hack the timeline sim every fucking time. And I guess Texas caught up on that, too. It’s just a matter of everybody discovering what the right build is and what attribute to spam the shit out of and then it will all be as random as simon t ever was. A lot of teams should be great on paper but they have garbage builds so even if they had like 20 2000 tpe players, it still wouldn’t matter because Hamilton and Texas know how to build the best players with the least amount of TPE. So I guess we all should copy whatever they are doing and pray to Jesus H. Sim to let us win for once. It’s getting boring as hell but it is what it is.

There are a lot of "could-have-been" draft picks in the SHL, but let's have some fun thinking about someone that busted hard. Write about their potential and where they were picked, and how that franchise could look *if* they had in fact panned out.

I am a San Francisco pride lifer in the midst of regression, so if we're talking about busts the first name that comes to mind is Simothy Drunkebird, the 1st overall pick in the S52 draft. The center was, in fact, picked the season after me and together we were going to lead the Pride to greatness. The Pride were very confident that Simothy would stick around, keep earning, and be a great part of the locker room. Unfortunately, he quickly went inactive and a couple of unfortunate decisions, some involving a certain aging goalie, led the Pride to go through a long and painful rebuild, though the future is now bright. Still, an active Drunkebird could have brought the Pride to glory much more quickly, but it was not meant to be.  I feel like my player's career would have been a bit different with the 1st overall pick sticking around, but I love the Pride and what we have built and have no regrets. Welp, you waited until the last day to grind out your CW and the CC finals are longggggggg over by now. congrats to [TEAM], woo! Was it an exciting final, or predictable? Is one team the clear winner?

While having Hamilton and Texas in the final was totally predictable, having Texas actually win this time was a bit less predictable. I think we all assumed Hamilton would do it again because that's what we're used to, so we're all happy about a slightly different outcome. And the series did go to seven games so I guess that was somewhat more thrilling. Overall, I'm hopefully for some more parity in the future which I think is the subject of my next prompt. Honestly, given the teams in I wasn't paying too much attention, but I was happy to see that there was a good amount of back and forth in the series. For those on the teams, it was probably quite exciting and stressful. (125 words.)

Now that we have the exact same fucking teams in the final again, let me ask, is parity an issue in the SHL? How do we combat this?

Look, we all try to be optimistic about parity right. We always think it's going to be our year! But the truth is, we don't spend as much time test simming and finagling with FHM as much as those Hamilton and Texas folks do. We have lives or whatever. Simon was dumb but at least there was randomness, right? So we wanted more variety in builds and something supposedly more realistic and that's cool but what we really need is more weirdos obsessed with the sim to get out there and beat Hamilton and such. That's not going to be me because I don't even own FHM and my player is going to retire pretty soon. But someone nerdy enough with some free time has to be out there, right? Otherwise, I certainly don't have any solutions, but eventually all teams come back to Earth, I suppose. I've seen it happen in other leagues, at least. (156 words.)

Will there be surprises? Of course there will be surprises! But if I told you what they were then it wouldn't be a surprise anymore, would it? I hope that Alex does well in IIHF again. He had a nice go of it a couple of seasons ago but kind of fell off a bit last season, which I guess regression will do to you. I expect fewer people will make the mistake of picking him in fantasy again, but I hope he makes the few that do proud again. Canada or Japan probably wins it all, right? Or do I even know anything about this? Probably not. (108 words.)

2. GM stands for Great Man (+3 TPE) - @Mike Izzy is the Best GM I have seen on this site. I am not going to point to trades, drafts, signings, moves etc. It is his Locker Room presence that has created the greatest online atmosphere I have ever seen, whether in sports management, social media, message boards or texting with my mom. The Calgary Locker Room, both on site and on Discord, is a place of fantastic people and great discussion about a variety of topics. Participation is high and the number of unique and interesting activities and events have lead to everyone getting to know each other and feeling comfortable. It is his careful curation of people and ideas that has created this level of excellence within the Calgary LR. His media work outside of the locker rooms also helps elevate the Dragons from just another team to the absolute best place to play in the league. He has built upon the excellent work by those who came before him. I have never been part of an internet group that is so pleasant to be in and participate in.

6. Grab Bag
a. (+1 TPE) A win in the FHM era is worth more to me, mostly because that is the era we are in now and it would be pretty cool to win one. That is not to take away anything from the STHS era, as that simulation engine appeared to do the job well for a number of years. Without the STHS era, we would not have the FHM era and we would all be sad and alone. But ultimately, the FHM engine is a better engine for what we are trying to do, even though a the newer versions of FHM might even be better for the league. Hopefully we will see the league continue to advance and embrace the newer technology as we go forward.

b. (+1 TPE) Yes, We would obviously have seen the same final four if they had not met earlier in the playoffs. These four teams, as currently constructed, are better than anyone else. They have created a situation where there are multiple tiers: the Top 4, everyone else, fifty feet of crap, and Winnipeg.  Maybe if they had reached the final four again we would have seen a different combination of teams in the finals. Would Texas have won if the seeding had gone differently? That would have been interesting to see.

11a. The Procrastinator Special! (+2 TPE) - Well, Texas won. Yay. They beat Hamilton. At least it is different than last year when Hamilton beat Texas. Parity is alive and well. This time it went to seven games, so it was exciting. Kind of. It is still Texas and Hamilton. I would not say the predicted winner won, as I feel like Hamilton was the favourite. I will agree that Texas was the clear winner, as Texas won four games before Hamilton won four games, so that is pretty good for them and a big part of them winning the Challenge Cup this year. Hopefully next year they can meet in the finals again and I can just copy paste this into the CW to save myself time.

12. Milestones (+3 TPE)

13 Parody (+3 TPE) - Obviously there is a problem. It is the same teams in the same place at the same time while everyone else looks on. Parity clearly does not exist in this current format. There are two options to make it better: Let the HO interfere and screw it up, or let it play out and see the teams fail out naturally. With the changes to the regression rules, there should be some attenuation on the abilities of the players on these teams. If other teams GMs finally realize that doing deals with the big teams will lead to their further dominance, maybe we can start to see the effects of regression on these guys. I cant see any way where changes targeting these teams will be effective or useful. If HO makes rules that clearly are intended to hurt some teams to increase parity, there will be pushback, whining, complaining, chirping and an overall bad reaction from a large portion of the player base. Stay the course and lets see where things are in seven seasons.

c. Hamilton has a population of roughly 5 people. Where would you relocate the franchise?
d. Who is the best player to NOT make the final in the past 2 years?

a. Wow, tough question. On one hand the FHM structure sort of allows nobody but the teams that are actually the highest rated overall to reach and win the Finals. On the other hand, making the playoffs consistently in the STHS era was hard enough, much less being sure your team was set up right to compete for 4 rounds. I'm gonna go with the STHS title. [67]
b. While I can't say *for sure* that we'd see the same Final Four, it seems extremely likely. Those series were very close and sure enough, the better seed came out on top anyway. For whatever it's worth, I think the dice-roll / change of playoff format will ultimately benefit parity. Even if there isn't a bonus or advantage that a franchise gets for playoff appearances, the redistribution of MORALE among the league will prove beneficial, I think. [81]
c. There are really only a few options for a Hamilton relocation, because making them the first franchise overseas would be a little sketchy. Let's keep it all in North America before we have to do a huuuge expansion. There are three options, in my eyes: Milwaukee (sets the stage for a cross-town MKE/CHI rivalry nicely), New York City (yes there's a Buffalo team but think about the NHL/NFL), or Charlotte (connects/separates Atlanta, New Orleans, and Baltimore). [82]

Wondering if parity is *an* issue or not - while I understand that this prompt is more tongue-in-cheek than last season's - isn't really the question to ask, here. We need to ask if parity is *the* issue in the SHL right now. Honestly, I don't see it as the issue at all. We have a multitude of other issues, most importantly the idea that there are other sim leagues in other sports that very clearly support mid-level and casual players more, have a much lower skill floor when it comes to management experience required to enter a league staff position, and have pretty harsh scales to shorten the lives of simulation players. We have a Head Office that has really failed to consider the simulation livelihoods of the couple hundred users who just like coming on here for activity checks and draining their contract money. Yes, some teams full of active players are pissed they can't get through the wall of the powerhouse teams, my own team included; but that's not the root of the matter. It's an easy problem to identify while not identifying the systemic issues with SHL governance. [199]

You log on to the SHL. Oh shit gotta do your Finals Predictions. Yay Hamilton Texas finals, love shl parity. Weird, the title says s61 finals predictions but its s62? But wait, all the PTs are labeled s61, we're on activity check #388, and no one is complaining about regression. You must have woken up back at the start of the S61 Finals! What do you do differently now that you know how the next season will play out. Change some of your casino bets? Predict some drama? Cheat at primetime?

I think perhaps the saddest part about the state of the SHL right now is that, if we somehow pulled a Groundhog Day and I woke up in last season's finals, even knowing what's happening now, I would make the same changes to my player. Sure, I'd change a few primetime/playoffs answers, but what's a handful of TPE when I only log on to complete that every now and again? I'd only gain another point or two by making sure I got the ONE upset through the entire playoffs. I'm still producing well and LAP is still a formidable team, but I didn't do much to my build all year; I really can't. I sit and wait for another 30 TPE just to tick one stat up one notch. It's not a drag so much as a completely different game than the running-and-gunning of the STHS-era SHL. [160]

Obvioulsy I'm going to talk about the GM of the Year in S57, that would be the one and only me, Wearingabear. If you look at my Sig it's obvious that the FHM Gods judged correctly and labeled me with that amazing and gracious title. During my tenure as a gracious and giving GM, the Anchorage Armada of the Simulation Major Junior Hockey league reached the finals 4 seasons in a row and had a 25% success rate in the finals. SO not JODAN good, but still really good for what this league has going on. In all jokes aside, I was a very okay GM in this league. I'd have to give more props to major contenders and LR presences like AssClap, Hot Dog, JayWhy, Hallsy, Nhamlet. All people who have been extremely successful in not only winning championships but building their locker rooms up and making them places that people want to spend time in. (157)

For this topic we have to look back all the way to the Season 55 draft in which Igor Victory was drafted. There were a lot of fantastic, great, hopeful players during this draft. However, I want to write about one that happened very close to me in Anchorage. I won't mention any users by name, but lets call them Northie. Northie was quite the presence in the locker room and was quite talkative from the moment they arrived. However, as soon as the season started and the rookie was not getting top line minutes, the talks quickly turned sour. After a season of whining and complaining about not getting the time they wanted, it was time for the expansion draft. This saw a moment of clairty for the current GMs. I, being a rookie, was exposed to the expansion draft. However, the GMs made a quick decision and traded a 3rd round pick to keep me around and for the other team to take Northie instead. After being a max earning up to that point, they fell off hard and eventually went IA. Almost as bad as Gabe. (189)

d. Who is the best player to NOT make the final in the past 2 years?

a. I think the FHM era matters more when it comes to the cup winning. STSH was random and could throw a non contender up against a cup contender and let them win. It relied and thrived on the chaos. While during the FHM era, a few members have figured out the keys to winning and have excelled at that. Draft better amongst the margins. (64)

b. knowing the predictablity of the FHM gods and their ways. We know that those 4 teams are in the peaks of their window and have amassed great players with high TPE and good builds. It would have not been surprising at all if those 4 teams were in the top 4 again next season. (54)

c. If I had to relocate the Hamilton Steelhawks to a better location, and one that is not a suburb of Toronto. I would choose Green Bay Wisconsin. While the packers are a bunch of cheese heads, Wisconsin is a great hockey state and would make for a great SHL team. My other choice would be Mexico City, because why not. (60)

d. The best player to not make the finals the past 2 seasons is none other than Lyle Odelein III. one of the greatest defensive talents of the current SHL generation. A fantasy must have. It's hopeful that NOLA gets good again soon so the talents of this player are not wasted and they can earn the cups they need. (59)

Slav1cThor could have been so good had he figured out how timezones worked. He was very active in Maine’s locker room, he was a very active user in general and was I believe a max earner. With his “brother” Brutus it looked like Maine finally had 2 users that could really help with the massive holes in the line up. Both were active, both were always around (mind you only 1 at a time though, lol). But then came the fabled time zone fuck up. And instead of just going with the flow and being “oh i guess i messed up” he went atomic and thunderdomed the issue and then him and his “brother” quit, leaving Maine in the lurch. Our poor GM, Toast, had to scramble and fill the spots with Inactive free agents, which of course can only help out so much. Basically just bodies to fill a roster.

And from what I have heard from that era, HAM broke that system and made it pointless in trying to do something interesting with player builds. It would have been way more exciting had it been LAP or BAP in the final against the big teams. Or hell, it would have been great to see LAP and BAP in it. That would have been exciting. Regardless of that fact, was there one clear winner? Not really, the series went the distance and TEX just went a bit farther. I mean, yes and no. We have only recently enacted some things to combat what is happening. Regression the next few seasons is going to really annihilate some teams with the harsher changes. Of course its tough to know how the league will really look until all that starts hitting. Also with the salary cap really starting to strangle, some teams are really going to have to figure out some moves forward. The next 2-4 seasons will be huge for seeing how well we are doing parity wise. If we are still in the same spot in season 66 then we really need to figure something out. Like maybe blowing up every team, and doing a full on RESTART of it. Let the GMs draft BRAND NEW WHOLE TEAMS. Of course doing that is probably a death sentence for the league as a whole, so thats probably not the best way forward.

I would like to nominate @nyumbayangu to this position. Not only do i think this user is incredibly creative, but also if he took his roleplay into this position, the PTs would be written from the aspect of an alien. Which in my opinion would be hilarious and fun to work with. Could it possibly be too hard? Maybe, but I think it would be well worth the experiment for a few PTs. 1 - Mortsleh Rotciv

2 - I pick myself as the General Manager to focus on, because I know what I did pretty well. I took a team that struggled for an identity in the Las Vegas Kings and made them into the Seattle Riot, removing the stigma of a "drunks and dumbs" team. I had to make some tough decisions, like getting rid of some long-time players, but eventually we became perennial contenders, winning it all in Season 17. I made some shrewd trades, getting draft picks that allowed me to snag some players I had managed while in charger of the Prince George Firebirds, namely Daniel Merica, who became the team captain and face of the franchise. While Merica wasn't always the most personable individual, his style of leadership demanded excellence from his teammates, and by and large, that's what we had. My biggest disappointment was not winning more than one championship with that team, especially when we had 4 all-star centers on the squad. In a time when 1000 TPE players were superstars, I think we had nearly a dozen of them.

4 - Rule changes? I honestly missed a big section of time in the SHL where rule changes were discussed. I'm not entirely sure what rules have changed, to be honest. I do know that there are an absurd number of punishments doled out by the head office these days. Compare that to Way Back When, and a league commissioner sending a Jewish member a DM with a Swastika in it, and the punishment being....nothing? Obviously that's not acceptable, but something in between might be a good idea. It's also a little off-putting to see punishment announcements seemingly every week. Why would anyone want to do anything in this league, with the number of rules and punishments that get dealt out? I know I sure as hell wouldn't.

I'm sure there were some rule changes that I'm overlooking, and but this something that I've been wondering about and kind of irritated about since returning.

Task 1: CW TRIVIA 3?
Word: heyo

Task 6: c: Relocation: If it was up to me i would have to relocate the Hamilton Steelhawks over to Vancouver, which obviously has a bit higher of a population vs Hamilton. This would give the team a good rivalry with the Seattle Argonauts, it would give them a much bigger fanbase, and it would give Canada another team which is always good. Additionally, it gives them a minor league team in the Vancouver Whalers.

Task 12: Milestones

Task 13: Parity: When I played Eastside hockey manager a lot I eventually realized that the players have a much less effect then you would think, and that just by setting efficient and cheesy tactics (shooting a lot) you could make any mediocre team competitive. In order to even the playing field for me in that game I had to eventually stop myself from setting up tactics, because they were just too good and easy; therefore I would just let my assistant coach set the tactics. I would do something similar to this i think in the league, because then it will prevent the tactics from being the biggest part of the game, and will make the players more of the focus which is how it should be. You could also go another route where you can pick some of the pre-set tactics in the game, but eventually the best of these presets are figured out and everyone just uses these.

Task 14: Blow it up: Looking at the future in the SHL, to me it looks like the Minnesota Monarchs are going to need to rebuild (that is if they arent already) Going into Season 63 with a new gm and a depleted core, the team is looking like they will need a bit of an over hall.  The core group is getting older and currently was only good enough to get us to 15th out of 20th in the standings, so we will need to retool in the draft. Hopefully our up and coming draft picks can fill in a few of the holes in the roster and refresh the lineup with youth. I would say that we are are about 2 seasons out from really contenting, as that's when a lot of our draft picks make it up to the SHL. I would try to time our draft picks and players with this timeline, and trade any assets away which don't match up with this; this way the team will be firing on all cylinders at this time, and being worse will get us better draft picks leading up to it.

Task 18: Apocalypse Now: My four players would be called Huey, Dewey, and Louie and obviously Scrooge Mcduck. They would be an unstoppable team and a difficult line to play against, with the 3 kids being a forward line and then Scrooge Mcduck distributing the wealth by being a puck moving d man. They would be extremely bonded to each other and refuse to player apart, which would obviously cause quite a few problems in the draft and I'm sure would have to wait till free agency to get them together. Despite this, once together they would have the perfect paired stats to all be able to work off of each other. I don't really think this would be a fun combo for GMs to work around, as getting that many draft picks together isn't easy, but it would be a fun combo for me, and obviously help fill up the league (as almost everyone has retired).

There have been some good and some bad GMs in SHL history. (Mostly bad) Pick a GM you think was outstanding and explain why you think they were one of the better GMs in SHL history. Point to trades/signings/trophy wins/locker rooms to support your claim.

Yes, there is one in my mind. Funny fact but I have been in this team when he started and when he retired. And no - he had no short career. @Steelhead77 is a great example of that how to build a perfect team. Calgary Dragons' success with STHS was outstanding and by a great deal, it is because of him. Calgary Dragons in his first year climbed into playoffs and the roster was outstanding. When was typing another season's championship week I remember I mentioned phrases "this player could be #1 line center in any other team" and "and also this player could be easily #1 center in any other team". Yes, he managed a team to keep superb level players to play lesser roles in a name of victory. Also, his invention - Hot Chick Draft is a reason why to be a real Dragon forever! Nevertheless, I can admire GMs' work to achieve a great afterlife for the team. I mean we are still in the play-off. I mean we are rebuilding but we are still in a play-off! It is all thanks to great fundaments made by this GM.

There have been a lot of rule changes in the SHL. Where do you think these changes have gone right, where do you think they have gone wrong? Would you ever want to go back to a previous way of doing things? Do you think the SHL is fine as is?

Hell man... This is a painful question to correspond but I'm gonna keep going on the things I mentioned before. This is fucked up. I had a nearly perfect time in SHL for a long time with this 2nd generation player. I really wanted to pay back my huge debt to Esa when my previous player left inactive at an important time. Goodname is kind of doing his job but kind of scrub he is. So in my mind was a genius plan. Make sure I can get enough money to provide for my 3rd generation player. Innokenty Dobroslov would be a superb winger and goalscorer and most important well fed. I calculated in my mind happy times in the near future and great dedication to SHL. Maybe I could apply co-GMing things... Butttttt noooooooooo! League should make shorter careers etc. No franchise players etc. Arrrrghgrrhgrhgrhrgvrug;oiwJ; DS;H DSHNGSAH AG;ALG fUCKING hell! If You did not understand. I'm mad about the recent regression format. It goes in wrong direction.

a. What is worth more to you, a cup win in the FHM era or the STHS era?

STHS. I don't know why really but first would be the reason that I liked it better (personally). It is not that I hate FHM. I have spent several days of my life (according to steam data) in a franchise hockey manager. But when we talk about league stuff it is nearly impossible to follow this league if You are not all or at least a lot in.

Code:
b. Be honest, would we have seen the same final 4 as last year (Chicago, Texas, Hamilton, Buffalo) had BUF/HAM and TEX/CHI not run into each other in the second round?

Hard to say. I really don't care. I so much don't care about this rotation of 4 teams that it is hard to imagine something nice in 50 words. Truly You have taken questions I find repulsive. How much we can talk about 4 teams. I mean NHL we don't talk about Caps, Tampa as like these 4. We should pay attention to other things.

Code:
c. Hamilton has a population of roughly 5 people. Where would you relocate the franchise?

According to real-life top hockey cities. According to it, Toronto is mentioned as #1 city of hockey. We have a team "Toronto North Stars" and that is good that we can correlate it to real life. The #2 is Boston. And now I'm surprised. We have no team in Boston and my idea of expanding this going through.... is gone. But yeah. Boston. Why not? I believe there should be a bunch of natives in SHL. I'm not a Bruins fan but I'm a fan of hockey so I respect this original 6 team and this would be a great addon for SHL someday.

Code:
d. Who is the best player to NOT make the final in the past 2 years?

Can I expand the answer? I truly feel bad about player Nick Brain. When I recreated, I made an article "Hogwarts via SHL", which was deeply related to player attributes and Nick Brain back in S54 was a supreme player. His prime years and all overall killer outstanding build. I wished he could in his end of career clinch a victory for Challenge Cup

There are a lot of "could-have-been" draft picks in the SHL, but let's have some fun thinking about someone that busted hard. Write about their potential and where they were picked, and how that franchise could look *if* they had in fact panned out.
One notable draft bust was Pierre Laroche-Durocher, who was drafted 12th overall in the S43 SHL Entry Draft. PLD was part of what seemed like a crazy good crop of players coming out of the Halifax Raiders: Leshaun King, Oliver and Kristof Kovacs, PLD and Maximillian Egger were all picked in the first round (or with the first pick of the second round for Kristof Kovacs). Very high picks all around, and a lot of disappointment. King had a short career in the SHL before leaving in controversy. Kristof Kovacs had one season in the SHL, his brother none. Egger is the only one who didn’t completely bust.
Laroche-Durocher was drafted by the Steelhawks. One can confidently say the Steelhawks got over him busting fairly well considering how dominant they’ve been in the league even without him. With PLD on the roster, if he hadn’t busted and had become the solid defenseman he wanted to be, they could only have been better probably.

d. Who is the best player to NOT make the final in the past 2 years?
a. A Cup in the FHM era is worth more to me because even tho there is a huge knowledge gap and lots of meta stuff going around, at least there’s more than one single end-of-it-all meta like there was in STHS. STHS was the worst and I hate it and we should never speak of it again.

b.I think we would probably have seen that, yes. These four teams were significantly stronger this season than the other teams, as usual. We’re all getting annoyed at that but it’s going to come to an end at some point. I hate the new rules but maybe they’ll help towards more parity. I know that’s the goal at least I hope it works.

c. Move it to an international location, we need to stop with this nonsense about only having United States and Canada teams. Move it to Sweden or Russia, or why not the greatest fake-hockey country of all: Winland. We could use a team in Helsinki that would surely be a refreshing sight to see in the league, pretty much all the other sim leagues do it anyway.

d. Dwight Knight is one of the top earners of a class that is reaching its peak but isn’t on Texas or Hamilton so he hasn’t gotten the chance to be in a Challenge Cup finals game yet and I think that’s really sad for him because he’s also a stand-up dude and a valuable member of the site.

If you're in another sim league and are using 4 of those CW tasks here, you can do this task to advertise that league in your CW. What league is it? Is it fun? How does it work? What are the pros/cons of that league, especially in comparison to the SHL?
I’m in the Pro Baseball Experience league and I fucking hate baseball I have no idea why I signed up for that I don’t understand a single thing that’s happening but I still like it because the PT structure is pretty interesting they have like fun games you can complete easily and claim instantly and also a PT that’s also kind of media so you can write about basically anything related to the league and you get TPE and money. That’s pretty cool. They have affiliation so most of the things I don’t understand can be replaced by affiliation stuff. Also the people there are nice but that’s pretty much the same here. Their forum kinda sucks, not going to lie, but it’s not a game changer to me. You can be a relief pitcher and help out your team without putting too much effort in, they’ll still welcome you with arms open because that’s better than being a bot.

While a bit of a homer pick, @Thatguy91 and @AgentSmith630 are both Great Men and great GMs in my eyes. The two took over the team right after an undervalue fire sale that depleted the roster without any strong draft picks to show for it.  Despite being in that hole, Henrik and Smith have done an incredible job bringing in great users through both the draft and in the trade market.  San Francisco has climbed out of the depths and is a solid team on the brink of being true contenders.  Not only is the roster in strong shape, the locker room is a great place to be with a supportive and fun crew to the point where those that have spent some time here would like to come back.  The most recent example of a great move is SFP trading for Jack Klompus, a max earning S54 player. Klompus fits the Pride’s competitive window and the user behind the player is awesome.  Giving up a first round pick is difficult, but in the best case scenario a first round pick will turn into a user like Toast.

hahahahahaha remember this task from last season? The one where everyone was like "nah we're good, tampa and BAP will be in the finals soon and you'll see that the old guard will make way for the new young teams". Now that we have the exact same fucking teams in the final again, let me ask, is parity an issue in the SHL? How do we combat this?

Yes, parity is a major issue in the SHL for a number of reasons.  For one, it gets boring seeing the same teams making deep runs every single season.  It is predictable and not very interesting.  It also sucks to be on one of the many teams that simply don’t have a chance to make it to the finals, let alone win a cup. It’s very, very bad for the league.  The problem clearly stems from FHM and how well some teams understand the sim and/or can test to optimize player building and strategies.  I don’t know what the optimal solution for this issue is, but it desperately needs to be addressed.  The easiest solution would be to move to a newer version of FHM that has better security, but that is out of HO’s control.  A more difficult and nuanced solution is to limit what GMs can change in FHM.  The simplest solution is to eliminate changing sliders, but that might not go far enough.  I would propose allowing team’s GMs to change lines and roles, but use the AI to set tactics.

Write your predictions for this year's IIHF tournament or WJC if you care about that more. Will there be surprises? Will any players make their country proud? Who's gonna suck? Be bold!

Sweden this year will finally overcome their tournament yips and win the gold medal. They have been close in recent years but despite having one of the strongest teams in the tournament, haven’t been able to come through and bring home the gold for King Carl. This season, the team’s stack of max earning S53 players will all be in their prime of their careers. Players like Jimmy Wagner, Magnus Liljestrom, Sven Svenson, Reid Sutherland, Rikard Hammarberg, and Taylor Johansson will be at their peak powers.  Sweden has done well in the RR so far, sitting at 7-2, and this year are going to win the gold.

In the not so distant future (s64), 4 Texas Hamilton finals in a row have seen most of the SHLers quit out of spite. Only a select few remain. Head Office reeeeaaally likes having 20 teams so they have now allowed every user to have 5 players to fill the void of everyone who left. Name your other 4 players that aren't your current player, select their positions, and decide their focus and path in the league. Postulate where they end up after the draft and how the players pan out.

The four other players I will make (although in this scenario I definitely quit) are Juan Guantanamo, Francis Hog, Bob Butts, and LeBong Simwell. Juan Guantanamo is a dangler center from Cuba. He is highly skilled with the puck on his stick and is equally as good a passer as he is a scorer.  Juan Guantanamo gets drafted by Winnipeg where he tries to stick with it until ultimately flaming out of the league due to general depression. Francis Hog is a French goaltender. He is mediocre to bad because goalie TPE doesn’t really matter, but that doesn’t matter because he gets drafted to Hamilton in the second round.  Francis Hog goes on to win 6 championships in his 9 season career and retires to the hall of fame. Bob Butts is two-way defenseman that is generally unremarkable.  Despite being a max earner he gets drafted to the Calgary Dragons and has an entirely mediocre career. LeBong Simwell, famed DT in the ISFL, makes his way over to the ice as a hard hitting old school defenseman that can’t skate.  Despite single digit skating ratings, he has a long and successful career on Texas.

PBE Championship Week - 4 Tasks <---covers 12 TPE

Task 6 - 4 TPE, 16 Total

a. What is worth more to you, a cup win in the FHM era or the STHS era?

STHS era, easily. The FHM era has been largely a bust in terms of competitveness. All you need to do is have a bunch of lifeless losers testing nonstop and using special spreadsheets to spit out perfect tactics to win here. In STHS, very rarely did the President's Trophy winner take home the Challenge Cup. It doesn't matter how good your team was, it guaranteed nothing. Multiple times I GM'd or was on a team that *should* have won the title in STHS only to get kicked out early. It was a LOT harder to accomplish. (96)

b. Be honest, would we have seen the same final 4 as last year (Chicago, Texas, Hamilton, Buffalo) had BUF/HAM and TEX/CHI not run into each other in the second round?

Yes. Anyone who hasn't lived under a rock in the last 7 seasons know that no matter how hard you try, these teams just have the advantages needed to win consistently. It's nice that they're in divisions with each other so the final four changes every season, but those 'new' teams are just fodder anyway at this point. (58)

c. Hamilton has a population of roughly 5 people. Where would you relocate the franchise?

I wouldn't relocate it, to be honest. Despite them having ruined the SHL since about S50 or whenever they broke the system, the franchise is iconic in this league, even if for the wrong reasons to most people. The SHL would be weird without a team in Hamilton, that's for sure. (51)

d. Who is the best player to NOT make the final in the past 2 years?

That would go to Baltimore center Ethan Duncan. He's been in the Top 10 in scoring in the SHL the last two seasons and is playing his ass off. Unfortunately, it hasn't been enough for him to win the the Eastern Conference the last two seasons to do some damage there. (51)
