Please pick ONE prompt to write about. Do not mix and match prompts. Identify the prompt you are using in your submission - Copying and pasting the prompt will deduct from your word count so if you do this make sure YOUR submission is 150+ words excluding the prompt.

CREATIVE PROMPT - Uh oh! Ownership hired the GM's nephew as team treasurer and he spent all the team's money on Bored Commissioner Yacht Club NFTs. Turns out the rare Finn token was fungible after all! The team is ruined!

Written Task: This season you have to save money and quick! How do you do it? The only rule is that nobody loses their job! The SHL puts workers first, so you gotta get creative! Does the whole team go back to wooden sticks? Do you take a lucrative dairy sponsorship and skate on frozen milk instead of ice? Or do you go absolutely bonkers and do something like raise ticket prices? (150+ words)

Graphic Task: Show me a corner you've cut to save money, and how a player or fan is reacting to it.

PLAYER PROMPT- Rumours are circulating in the locker room that some stooge in upper management lost a ton of the team's money. Suddenly you've been called into the GM's office to discuss your next contract, and they want you to take less than you're worth.

Written Task:  So, do you do it? Is your player willing to take less to help out the team? Does your player care about money? If so, do they have big obligations off the ice that they need the money for? A huge mortgage? A charitable foundation? Gambling debts? Why do you want the money? If they're just in it for the love of the game and couldn't care less about their contract, then why? Are you already set for life on your earnings? Do you live a humble life that doesn't require much? Tell me what would your player do in this situation and why. (150+ words).

Graphic Task:- Depict your player explaining to the GM what you need (or don't need) your contract money for.

You will receive 3 TPE for fulfilling all requirements.

All responses are due on Sunday, April 3rd at 11:59 EST. NOTE: IF YOU SUBMIT/EDIT AFTER THE DEADLINE YOU WILL RECEIVE REDUCED/NO TPE.

PLAYER PROMPT

So long as I'm happy in my situation, and I most definitely am, I'm fine with taking a pay cut for the greater good. It's not like I need or even want to spend a ton of money. A hockey club has hundreds of employees...it's not just the players, coaches and such, but also the people who work ticketing, concessions, ticket scanners, stuff like that. And if we're cutting financial corners and I'm not willing to slash my salary just a little bit, it's they who end up paying. I'd rather keep this ship sailing as smooth as possible than have my pockets stuffed full of more money than I know what to do with; it keeps me humble and hungry. Don't get me wrong, I like the nightlife, spending nights shopping and hitting up the clubs, but I can knock it down a night or two if I need to.

At the end of the day, players aren't remembered by the size of their bank account, but by their performance on the ice, and your on-ice performance depends on your teammates just as much as your own talent (especially as a goalie). I'm pretty new to the SHL, and still on my rookie contract, but like I told the teams that scouted me for the SHL entry draft, I don't plan on ever asking for more than the minimum contract. Outside of coaching and tactical choices, the best way to win a championship is to to load your team with talent, whether through the draft or through free agency, and any money I leave on the negotiating table is money that can be spent attracting high level talent to our team.

When I someday retire, I want to look back on my legacy as someone who gave everything he could for his team, and lifted the cup as a champion. Money just doesn't factor into that for me, and I suspect for many others as well.

Since we need to save a lot of money quickly we decided to all change out our regular meal program that included really sophisticated seafood and shellfish, like Dungeness crab and pufferfish, sea urchin and instead decided to go for a mainly spam diet, with white rice and eggs. This was a slight blow to our energy levels but we had to save money somewhere quickly and our food costs were out of this world. Next we decided to switch our uniforms over to something more minimalistic while we auctioned off our old jerseys and gear. We decided to sport a uniform that was well known with our city of Tampa Bay but more so seen on the beach. We decided to rock the Banana Hammock or Speedo. It came with some unexpected in sim boosts to speed and agility at the cost of an increased chance of seeing injury. We decided to sell the ice machine we have and instead just decided to partner up with the local 7-11 convenience store to get a monthly price on unlimited ice.

Answering for the second prompt

Vaseline Podcalzone is a professional hockey player, earning millions of dollars to play what is essentially a game with sticks. If anything, he should consider himself blessed to still be earning a few million dollars this year, even after taking a big discount in his most recent three year extension with the Seattle Argonauts.

Podcalzone is basically set for a good, long time. The owners of the franchise are completely understanding of his situation and have helped him with housing in his first few seasons with the team. Now, obviously, with the money he's saved up, he's been able to get his own property in downtown Seattle, probably a condo or something that's close to the rink. He has a roof over his head with plenty left in saving.

He isn't going to have to change up his diet or anything. He won't feel the result of this paycut, thankfully. Really, Podcalzone is incredibly blessed to be able to say that.

I believe that everyone in the league usually takes the contract minimum when it comes to contracts and that is something I am completely fine with. As of this post I have $90M in my bank account so I am sitting comfortable with money (although with the addition of the SHL trading cards recently, who knows how much I'm going to spend pulling packs). Throughout my SHL tenure I have collected money via past contracts, SHL fantasy money, casino money (rip the parlay), Twitter money (good thing that got changed a while back where max payout is $600K a week now) and of course SHL job payouts.

I can easily take the minimum amount throughout my SHL career and let other teammates who need the money more to have higher tier contracts. My lifestyle is pretty modest and not bougie so I don't live the luxurious lifestyle and spend a lot on extravagant things. If it ever gets to the point where money becomes an issue for me, then I will talk to my GM's about it but as of now I am suffice with taking the minimum for my SHL contracts.

We will officially be riding a team bus. It is cheaper than running a plane. This will be complete with a budget cut in stadium upgrades. The plans for expansion has been pushed back, and all of the maintenance has become the only thing we are taking care of right now. Also in the course of the season we have gone healthy, but cheap in the meal plan for the team which in case will help lower the cost. Along with all of that we have also rented out our practice facility to not only fund us, but also fund our new community for junior hockey growing the market. We have also made some changes on concessions and merchandise. We have expanded prices to help bring us back up in all budgeting. We have taken all considerations for this, front office has also decided to take a pay cut for this season only, and it will expand into a raise in 3 seasons time to make up for the pay cut right now going on.

Ragnar: Thanks for joining me Spack. I need to discuss your next contract and how, due to some unforeseen circumstances, we need you to take a hometown discount.

Jarrow: Do you mind me asking what those "unforeseen" (Spack makes the air quotes with his hands while saying this) circumstances were?

Ragnar: Well..... there was just some things that came up that we weren't expecting that we need to accommodate for now.

Jarrow: Yeah, I get that. I'm just wondering what those "things" (Spack once again making the air quotes) were. Cup Noodle just got called up so his salary is coming off the books. It doesn't really make sense that you need me to take a pay cut suddenly when there should be ample money.

Ragnar: Stop being a nerd. Will you take a discount?

Jarrow: It was gambling debts, wasn't it?

Ragnar: ...

Jarrow: It was? Please say you didn't bet against our team?

Ragnar: ...

Jarrow: I don't think I am going to sign that extension with you, no offense. Not because you bet against our team but because you lost money doing it. We were terrible last season, how in the hell did you lose money while betting against us? Shameful. Trade me.

End scene.

Player Prompt

I’m not going to ask what exactly happened with the team’s money, but this person should not be in ‘upper management’. That being said... I've told my GMs before I would play for much less than they're paying me, but they won't do it for whatever reason, so this isn't really a problem for me anymore. At this point in my career I've made a ton of money already – does anyone remember that I earned $6M for 6 seasons straight? - and I have this relatively lucrative (and legal btw!) side-job which made me richer than you might expect. In fact, I have so much money I don’t really think I can ever spend it all and since I’m not into gambling or drugs, I’ll probably invest it or give it to family members. I'll be glad to take less than I have to if it means my teammates that still need or hope for the big contracts can have them.

First of all, a new treasurer needs to be acquired. If a person spends any money on NFT's, they have absolutely no brain activity whatsoever, and if that amount especially makes the league go almost bankrupt, a change needs to be made. That is the only job a person will lose, because of their incompetency. With the new treasurer available, who has planned a perfect plan for the next 3 years in order to save the league's economy, all ticket prices will go up 15%. That includes season tickets and individual ones. They will also make team merchandise more affordable, by lowering the cost an additional 5%, to make fans more jolly due to high ticket prices. More affordable merchandise equals more sales, equals more money, equals faster recovery of economy.

Taken from the Calgary Dragons home stadium, the Big Parm, there are no blank spots on the ice. All of the space is sold out at a relatively affordable price to gain commercial revenue. Despite the fact that mostly all of them are Olive Garden advertisements, they sure paid for every available lot.

So, you want me to renegotiate my contract and take less money because the ownership group spent it all on themselves…..a yacht as I understand it.  I don’t really have much sympathy for people who don’t understand that you gotta spend money to make money, or those who are fiscally irresponsible.  If it weren’t for the show that players put out there every second night or so, those boys wouldn’t have that money to squander.  So, NO, I refuse to negotiate a pay cut.  You have to look at it from a players point of view.  As much as I love playing the game, I have to be concerned about my future.  My SHL career is very short and I have to bank for my post hockey career life.  I don’t want to have to take a second job at the LCBO in order to make ends meet.  So, if you can’t pay me, then trade me.  Or. of course, I could go and player in one of the European Elite Leagues   Your choice…….
