Hi,

Welcome to my first deep dive. Today i am diving into St. Louis Scarecrows past first draft picks (Note this doesn’t necessarily have to be a first round player, but the first player St. Louis management picked in the draft). Which player did they draft, at what position and how did the player’s career turned out?

S65, Tommi Koivu, 1st round, 5th OA
Tommi is a LD from Finland, a recreate from user @RotticusScott, a member of the 2k club. This is a safe pick.

S64, Dan Baltisberger, 1st round, 1 OA
Dan is a LW from Switzerland, a recreate from @Segi, whose initial player Mathias Seger had a great career and is part of the 2k club. It remains to be seen if Dan can live up to the high expectations, but this looks like a safe pick.

S63, Outdoor Tuck, 1st round, 13th OA
Outdoor is a LW from Finland, a recreate from @Snussu. An user that had two more players in the past, most famously one is Dank Boija, who won a Challenge Cup with Hamilton Steelhawks in S51. Snussu ‘s other player Tinke Jutila also won a Challenge Cup (S60 Buffalo Stampede). If history repeats we can expect to see Outdoor Tuck lifting the Challenge Cup once again. Currently Snussu is the assistent GM of New England Wolfpack.

S62, Sisyphus Embros, 1st round, 6th OA
Sisyphus is a C from the United States, a recreate from @SabresFan. Unfortunately this is a miss for St.Louis as Sisyphus ended his career prematurely on March 25th.

S61, Viktor Anderson, 1st round, 8th OA
Viktor is a LW from Latvia, a recreate from @Vik. Unfortunately this was another miss as Viktor retired after one season.

S60, Sam Stone, 1st round, 9th OA
Sam Stone is a RW from Canada, a recreate from @TML99, former successfull GM of the St. Louis Scarecrows. I can see why the Staff picked him, but unfortunately TML99 has last been seen on the site since November 2021 as his current player is now playing for the Vancouver Whalers.

S59, Marcel Beck, 1st round, 8th OA
Marcel Beck is a RD from Switzerland, a player from new recruit @By-Tor. He proved to be a great choice. Drafted 6th overall by Winnipeg Aurora and still playing with them. Currently sitting at 1362 TPE at the time of this writing. Apart from that By-Tor also is an assistant GM at Carolina Kraken.

S58, Ethan Bouchard, 1st round, 6th OA
Ethan Bouchard is a RD from Sweden, a recreate from @fever95, a veteran on the site. Ethan is his 5th player who currently sits around 1400 TPE and playing for the Tampa Bay Barracuda. He won the Four Star Cup back in S46 with Noah Gallagher in St. Louis, but more impressive are his three players in the HoF: John McBride (S14 Class), Carter O’Callahan (S31 Class) and Artom Zhumbayev (S50 Class). No-brainer choice.

Conclusion:
St. Louis staff tend to go with recreates with their first pick in the drafts like probably most teams, but lately that didn’t turn out well with 3 players unexpectedly ended their career quickly. The only new recruit was a hit. Maybe the staff should rethink their draft strategy. That said, I don’t expect to see an early retirement from Outdoor Tuck, Dan Biltisberger and Tommi Koivu, so the future might be bright in St. Louis.
